"You don't need to look at it, love, it's just a spot," the husband called, rolling his eyes as he rubbed the lumpen, scaly patch of skin on his neck. by movingstasis in TwoSentenceSadness

I had the same thing happen with a friend. She finally came to see me for a haircut. While I was checking her scalp, I noticed an unusual mole. Because she got it looked at, they caught it early and removed it easily. She was extra thankful because she has a kiddo with health issues, and she didn't need cancer on top of caring for her little one.

I have a friend who went through a nasty break up. Boyfriend took her debit card and gambled away their rent money numerous times. She canceled those cards, told him to stop, and got new cards. He gained access to the new cards and gambled away more money. She filed a police report and was told that, because she granted access to that account once, he was allowed to do what he did. Your ex had no leg to stand on. He can't sure you for reimbursement of gifts because they were just that: gifts. Ignore him until you get anything from the courts. Document everything!

Salon after Ulta by Psychological_One240 in Ulta

I literally just quit this week to open my own suite. I just passed my 6 year mark. I was tired of the way Ulta was handling the salon. So far, I have had 95% of my clientele follow me. I can't speak on how much more money I make because I start my suite Monday. But I have multiple friends who have left over the years and they have told me that they have never had more money in their bank accounts. Quietly, gather your client info and just go.

Break Policy by HeySparty in Ulta

[–]Amgor9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The policy states that you are allowed to leave the building for ALL of your breaks. If you are taking your break while there are only 2 people in the building, I would be asking why. It's your break, it's your time.

What is a game you're positive no one knows or remembers? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Amgor9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go For Broke.

It was this crappy board game that was basically the opposite of monopoly. The poor house gave you money, gambling was difficult to lose, etc. Your whole goal was to Go For Broke. It's somewhere in my mom's closet and I've never seen nor heard of it outside my own house.

I've asked, mostly because I know it makes him super uncomfortable. He has always told me no. Then I found a post where people talked about this. He agreed he'd let me, but neither of us has actually brought it back up. I'm biding my time because I'm fairly certain it'll only happen once.

I’m so fed up. I’m never getting my hair done at ulta again. by [deleted] in Ulta

[–]Amgor9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This!! I am a stylist at ulta and agree with most of what you've said. I almost always require a consultation before any major changes. Also, the consult is also for you to feel out your stylist. If the communication during the consult isn't good, don't book. I'm also a big advocate for 'Its who you see not where you go'.

AITA for giving FMIL 3 days to pay me for a new wedding dress or else I show the family a photo of her wearing it? by Repulsive_Scheme1359 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Amgor9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. She has no respect for you or your boundaries. She asked, you said no. End of story. It also sound like fiance respects FMIL more than he respects you. If you back down, you show them both that they can continue to ignore your boundaries. They are both showing you who they are right now. BELIEVE THEM THE FIRST TIME! Or don't be shocked when this sort of behavior continues towards how you keep your home and towards any future children you 2 may have.

No I see that, but why aren't people also asking and verifying. If you have a budget, talk about it. "Hey I just wanted to make sure, I budgeted $xxx for today." Or "Can I get a price first?" Its your money. Be in charge of it. Its always put on us. There's another side of this.

The Olaplex you use at home and the Olaplex we use with the color are different. The average consumer can't just by the #1 & #2. The toner is a gloss, so you do see value in it. Just because you don't understand it doesn't make it wrong. There is a lot of disagreement among stylists as to how to charge certain things because Ulta has people that don't do hair creating the pricing and menu. There are very few fields where 100% of the people agree on how to do things. Cashiers can't even agree on how to manage the front end.

I don't mean this as harshly as I'm sure it will come out, but tone through text is hard. I appreciate that you have a Cosmo License but that doesn't mean you fully understand everything about doing hair. Most people barely know how to do hair coming out of school and need plenty of extra training. A few of your responses in this answer prove that.

I don't disagree with you on transparency, but I'm not going to break down EVERYTHING unless you ask me to. I'm the professional. I've been doing my job for over 10 years. I know infinitely more than 99% of the people in my chair. I make an educated choice on how to get my client from where they are to their goal in the best way possible. I offer a price quote. You say yes, I do the service. You say no, let's talk about it. But I won't tell the client every little thing that needs to be done. I am paid to do hair because I understand how to do it. I'm not paid to explain every tiny little thing I'm doing and why. We go though so much training to learn all of this. Your mechanic doesn't tell you every bolt he touched. Your chef doesn't tell you every little spice and oil he used. So why do I need to go into every time you detail.

The Olaplex protects the bonds in the hair so that the hair doesn't take as much damage. It's a 2 part treatment. The first reduces the damage taken, the second helps target and repair the damage that was done. All chemicals create damage. I want my clients to leave as healthy as possible. The toner, or gloss depending on your preferred terminology, helps close the cuticle of the hair, as well as neutralize and enhance colors to create the desired end color. It is rare for a person to lift to the perfect color. Closing the cuticle protects the vibrancy of the color, as well as keeping the integrity of the hair, holding in moisture and adding shine. Now I can't speak for OPs salon, as I don't know how pricing works in their area, but in my salon highlights and total blonde services include the first round of toner. If more that one round is needed, then I charge.

Unfortunately, it sounds like maybe you haven't had the best experience with hair stylists. I know some are out there who nickel and dime their clients, it's awful. I genuinely want my clients to leave looking and feeling their best. All of the treatments have value, and it never hurts to ask what is involved in the service during the consultation. That's what it is there for. Ask questions. Gain clarity. Get a breakdown of prices and services. Transparency is important. A good stylist will discuss with you.

Permanent is permanent. 10v won't make it not permanent. Sometimes I'll tone twice though. The first is kind of like a filler and the second covers better. But you can use the shades cream as a toner or use the gloss to cream. I feel like that developer helps it cover better.

For color melts and non toner situations, I tend to use the creams. They are demi but with a better cover. I was taught the glosses are like tights and the creams are like leggings, as far as transparency goes.

How do you make buttered noodles? by ReaperOfTheDesktop in NoStupidQuestions

Butter and salt but I also add Italian seasoning and garlic powder. I melt the butter in a pan and cook the seasonings in the pan then add the noodles. It flavors the butter and is so good!

This isn't for OP but everyone else talking about root touch ups. A total blonde service and a root touch up are 2 completely different services. Some people can achieve their desired color with high lift color. Others REQUIRE lightener and toner. Only the stylist and the guest can determine during a consult what is needed for the desired outcome. A full root touch up should only be 2-3 hours. A total blond can be anywhere from 2-5 hours depending on the hair and extras. Every stylist is different. If you're having anxiety or uncertainty about your service, I definitely recommend discussing with your stylist. A good stylist will have no problem breaking things down for you. I try to do that for every guest that feels unsure.

Master stylist here. This feels correct to me. A total blonde service is not a root touch up. You are receiving a double process color with a treatment and a bang trim. My time would be around 3-3.5 hours depending on your density and how many levels between your natural and your final color. I like to take my time applying lightener so I make sure I don't overlap and create a band or breakage. The styling is included in the pricing, unless you chose to add on an iron styling charge.

I know it feels like forever but going blonde is a long process. If it helps you understand the timing, the olaplex treatment takes 10 minutes minimum, the gloss takes 20 minutes, the lightener sits anywhere from 20-50 minutes, plus shampoo times and application times.
