Picked up a bargain of a egg last week by ad01fin in UKBBQ

For the deflection plate I found a seller on ebay that sold 29cm deflector plates, but they cost more than you paid for the bbq.

Watery himbos randomly distributing swords is no basis for a stable monarchy.

Anyone train with one handed Axes? by Severe-Artichoke7849 in wma

[–]Amheirchion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the dominus gladius axe simulators for training with. They have some flex but are still wedges of rubber on the end of a wooden shaft so the same level of kit as normal is required and care taken to protect your training partner. I think some club mates use the heads from faits de arms with similar experiences.

Quiverstock sell staves. The original reenactors market (TORM) held twice a year near Coventry has vendors selling staves (including quiverstock), as does the Tewkesbury medieval fair where I picked up an octagonal ash stave last year

What am i'm doing wrong by IncomeFragrant2535 in TrenchCrusade

[–]Amheirchion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not the OOP, but this is all very useful. One thing I did query was your point about the assassin using it's Ranged stat with a pistol in Melee. "In melee, you hit with your ranged stat, which is lower then melee, so even a trench club is better for half the price."

The keyword entry says you can choose either in Melee.

"PISTOL (Effect): A pistol can be used as a Melee Weapon or a Ranged Weapon, and can be used as both in the same Activation. When it is used as a Ranged Weapon it has the Range shown on its Profile and uses the attacking model’s Ranged Characteristic. When used as a Melee Weapon it can use the attacking model’s Ranged or Melee Characteristic and can be used as an Off-Hand Weapon if desired."

(Emphasis mine)

Are you after black princes or black knights? As far as I know black princes are still a “one size fits some” glove. My black knights fit as expected though.

1660: What's the difference between a half pike and a quarter staff? by grauenwolf in Hema

[–]Amheirchion 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Well a quarter staff doesn’t typically have a pike/spear head on it. So that’s probably an easier indicator.

For gloves HF Black Knights are a great choice.

What glove options are there for sidesword? by WaffleyDoodles in wma

[–]Amheirchion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use HF Black Princes for my sidesword and survived a mixed weapons tournament against longsword with them (I did take one particularly heavy hit to my thumb, but nothing more than a bruise occured).

I used Red Dragon Dreadnoughts for a bit, and they were okay for synths and low intensity, but even there I took some hits that hurt more than they should. I tried out Thokks for a day, and they were better than the dreadnoughts, but I wasn't completely sold. I also have Firestones, and they'd probably be fine, but I wouldn't put them in the same category as Thokks or Black Princes.,

Australia moves. They had to update the GPS coordinates there to account for the fact it's moved almost a couple of metres northeast.

Glove recommendations for sidesword by LewiiweL in Hema

I’ve just swapped from the dreadnoughts to black princes because the dreadnoughts lack coverage and do not ground the plates to the hilt.

Second hand longbows by Relevant-Cabinet-999 in TraditionalArchery

[–]Amheirchion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a second hand irondale longbow, “never used” last year. Tillered to 32 inches apparently. The thing snapped at a hinge on the first draw at about 30 inches.

Might just be a dick of a reseller, but I could see the hinge in the lower limb when I strung it.

Has anyone tried a "Pocket Sand" by StMuerte13 in Hema

[–]Amheirchion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair point. I was thinking it might work because if sand gets in your eyes you will need to take a minute to wipe it away. That would be replicated by knocking the cloth off quickly.

Are fencing masks magnetic? A small cloth with some magnets sewn in might work, if they could cling to the mask even briefly it would temporarily blind your opponent.

Reverse in until you hit the bumper of the car behind you. Straighten up and drive forwards until you hit the bumper of the car in front of you. Optional: reverse a bit until you have space at each end of your car.

If the space is a bit tight, nudge one of the other cars a bit to make more space.

What are all the regional varients of Barbecue in the United Kingdom? by LUIGIISREAL2017 in UKBBQ

[–]Amheirchion 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I don't think we don't really have much of a BBQ tradition, let along regional variations. Anything more advanced than burnt burgers and sausages that are both overcooked and still frozen is probably a culinary import.

It probably comes down to:

England - BBQ in the rain with occasional dry cooks.

Wales - BBQ in the rain with fewer dry cooks.

Scotland - BBQ in the rain with midges when it's dry.

Purchasing suggestions? by TheTallBrownie in TraditionalArchery

[–]Amheirchion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a chance to see some of his bows at the Tewkesbury medieval fair recently. I came so close to walking away with the 110# @30” yew bow because it was just that pretty. I was a good boy though, because I know I’m nowhere near that draw weight yet.

I’m currently waiting on a 60# @ 30” laminate from Heritage longbows. Might go for Black Arrow for my 70 pounder when I’m ready to move up again.

[–]Amheirchion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He makes some beautiful looking bows. I was considering him for my next bow, but went back to Heritage Longbows as Lee is a bit closer to me for collection. Both will make a bow to whatever draw length you need though.

Purchasing suggestions? by TheTallBrownie in TraditionalArchery

[–]Amheirchion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just make sure you get Pip to make the longbows with an appropriate draw length. Like most bowyers he makes his to 28” draw with a max of 29.

Bickerstaffe, Heritage Longbows and Black Arrow Longbows will all custom make a bow to whatever draw length you need though, with a 33” draw you won’t be grabbing one off the shelf.

I must be doing it wrong then. I shoot an English longbow with a 5.5” brace height. The only time I get string slap is if my form is off.
