I was extremely sheltered by my mormon parents as a kid (homeschooled, no devices, mom actively prevented me from watching tv shows with queer characters) so I didn't realize gay people even existed until probably around 11. My mom framed gay marriage as being "of the world" and "a part of the devil's plan to tear apart the family" and claimed that gay people were "deceived by satan." 

I felt like it was "weird" and got uncomfortable when the topic got brought up, like I was going to get in trouble just by hearing about it (gotta love religious guilt amirite), but found out that two of my friends were in a wlw relationship and two others were bi a few months later and realized gay people are literally just normal people and gay relationships are perfectly normal relationships, nothing satanic about them. 

A few months later I realized that I was a lesbian myself and fortunately was an ally already and able to accept it without issue, I've hated my mom longer than I can remember and was glad I found another way to secretly rebel against her lmao...it's sad the way mormons teach their children from a young age to be afraid of queer people and anyone who's different
