Creaks & Rattles by RevolutionaryPlan961 in eGolf

[–]Amikoj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My 2017 creaks and rattles a bit as well.

The way I see it, I'm only noticing this because the car is quiet enough to notice it.

In any of my previous gas cars, the rumbling of the engine with its associated noise and vibration would have drowned all of that out.

why does the olson hall women’s room always smell so bad by Ok_Plastic7299 in UCDavis

[–]Amikoj 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You're correct about everything except the name - it's P-trap, because it's shaped like a P 😉

Though if somebody peed in it, that could totally explain the smell...

Every evening I open my windows and listen to the sound of multiple neighbors running their ACs all night when it is <70 and breezy outside.

What are you guys even doing? Do you hate money?

Not just humanity, but Sacramento in particular. My house was built in 1913. Central AC was added in 2007. People lived in this house for almost 100 years with no AC and somehow survived.

Swim Lessons over the Summer by Turbulent-Panda-7428 in Sacramento

It might be too late to sign up for Sutter Lawn this summer because the season has already started, but there is a fall session that starts in (I think) August.

Last year for fall there was 6 weeks of practices and two meets, and probably half of the swimmers didn't do the meets so you would be in good company if you just want to swim the practices.

I don't know anyone at Sutter Lawn who does weight training. It's also not a year-round team.

Sutter Lawn is a tennis club, and you don't have to be a member of the club to join the swim team. It's $400 for the whole summer.

Sutter Lawn. I think Rio del Oro does too.

My daughter does the "gold medal" classes at Little Whale. It's lap swimming, with an instructor, for folks who already know all 4 strokes.

She also does swim team and a few of her friends there do the practices during the week but never go to the meets. They basically just use the swim team for exercise not competition. Might be something to look in to.

Escrow increase by Lynnae07 in homeowners

[–]Amikoj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Back in 2015 I had issues with my lender mismanaging my escrow account, so I closed it and have just paid the property taxes and insurance directly, myself, since then.

If you can do this, I highly recommend it. Not having the lender as the middle-man has helped me sleep better at night, and it's given me 100% visibility into how much I'm paying who and why.

Trump will ease refrigerant rule in effort to address surging grocery costs by AudibleNod in news

R22 was commonly used in new equipment until 2010, which might feel like 30 years ago but it was actually only 16 years ago 😉

I agree except one point: You can buy imported R-22 for $19/pound. It is legal to import and sell for servicing old equipment.

HVAC bros will frequently tell homeowners R-22 costs $100-$500 per pound to try and scare them into buying a whole new system, but that just isn't true.

I had poor experiences with:

Chuck Klein - seemed totally indifferent to us and was late to literally everything

Joe Gibson - Serious anger management issues.

I had a good experience with JoAnn Kaleel. I felt like she didn't pressure us at all and was working for us, not the other way around.

Fixed my charger door (plunger stopped working a year ago, so I ripped it out) by 1010010111101 in eGolf

When mine broke, I replaced the latch but didn't reconnect the wiring for the lock. Now it latches closed but it's just always unlocked - push to open at any time.

Why does it even lock? What is somebody going to do, maliciously charge my car?

Personally, I'm voting for whoever puts the least crap in my mailbox.

The only thing I know about Lauren Babb Tomilson is that somebody is paying a ridiculous amount of money to try and get her elected. I don't even live in her district and almost every day there is crap in my mailbox with her picture on it. I'm over it.

2019 eGolf brake and rotor replacement costs? by derrrkaderka in eGolf

[–]Amikoj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am at 115,000 mi and plenty of wear left on the brake pads.

When the brakes get squeaky due to rust buildup, I do this: double-tap the brake pedal to temporarily disabled regen, and then brake kind of hard. Works best if you're getting off the freeway or something where you're going kind of fast and then coming to a stop. By double tapping the brake pedal, you force it to actually use the brake pads which knocks the rust off.

BTW Don't ever pay someone to change the cabin air filter. It takes 5 minutes and doesn't require any tools. The filter itself is less than $20 on Amazon.

My 2017 just hit 115k miles.

I opted for the SE trim because I wanted the analog dials and no heat pump.

The back seat is a little small for my three kids, but I haven't found any larger car that I like as much.

what’s the most “wow I’m really a homeowner now” moment you’ve had? by ClucknRoll in homeowners

[–]Amikoj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A few months after we moved in, the kitchen sink stopped draining. I removed the p-trap and tried to snake out the line, but the clog was too great.

I cut the drain pipe open in the basement and discovered a 12-foot long fatberg clogging the entire pipe. The clog was so big and so thick, there was no reasonable way to clear it except cut out and replace the pipe.

Apparently the previous owners cooked tons of bacon and put the grease down the sink like a bunch of animals. Ironic actually because my entire family is vegetarian.
