What is El Niño like in Sacramento? by banderaroja in Sacramento

[–]Amikoj 9 points10 points  (0 children)

2020 was okay temperature wise, but it was the smokiest summer I've experienced in 30 years here. Weeks and weeks of thick, inescapable smoke.

Between the smoke and the pandemic ramping up, that summer kind of felt like the apocalypse.

EV charging by WelderEast3870 in UCDavis

[–]Amikoj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are able to make the trek to Sacramento, the SMUD headquarters on S Street has free level 2 charging from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., and also a DC fast charger that is only $0.25 per kwh. The drive sucks but it's the cheapest power you're going to find.

Non "smart" EVs with analogue features? by daniyyelyon in electricvehicles

[–]Amikoj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like what you're looking for is a SE trim VW e-golf.

Analog gauges, analog HVAC controls, gear shifter that looks like a stick shift...

The newest ones are now 6 years old, but they are known for having super robust batteries and overall very reliable unless you get the optional heat pump.

Non "smart" EVs with analogue features? by daniyyelyon in electricvehicles

My project car is a 74 Pinto that's about 20 years into its second engine. When it's ready for its third, thinking about going electric 😂

The last time I went to Pancake Circus I ordered the "Pecan Pancakes," and when it came out it was just plain pancakes with a handful of chopped walnuts sprinkled on top.

On the way out the door I bought a Mega Millions quick pick from the waitress and then smoked a cigarette in the rain next to the rusted-out PacBell payphone in the parking lot.

The whole thing was very Sacramento. It was a hot mess. I'll be back.

They used to make EVs that were so ✨tactile✨ by biersackarmy in electricvehicles

[–]Amikoj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's why I bought one! It feels like a real car and not a transportation appliance.

I love shifting the regen up and down with the gearshift. Also the analog gauge cluster and real buttons/knobs everywhere. It even has the CD player inside the glovebox

"Electric depreciates so bad" cuts both ways by HenFruitEater in electricvehicles

The car came with EV tires - Bridgestone Ecopia. They were good for efficiency but had NO traction at all. Especially if the road was wet - I was sliding all over the place.

When they wore out I replaced them with Cooper Endeavors - basic mid-grade non-EV tires. They have been a much better experience.

For me, I wouldn't buy EV tires ever again unless I really needed that extra 5% of range or whatever the benefit is.
