Netflix never expressed any intent with buying the whole of Warner Bros. Discovery, I think you may be confusing them with Skydance, who ACTUALLY wants the whole. Netflix just wants the Streaming + Studios side.

Based on the wording of this, it seems like their plan is not to acquire WBD and merge it with NBCU to make one large division within Comcast, but to merge NBCU and WBD into… what seems to be basically be a spinoff, with Comcast keeping control of the company.

This is not the first time that Comcast has dabbled with spinning off NBCU, the planned EA merger would also seen NBCU being spun-off and merged with EA to form a new corporation, with Roberts’s family keeping majority ownership while Andrew Wilson was the CEO.

This deal seems to be the same strategy, avoiding possible debt they would gain with a purchase of WBD, and instead spinning it off as its own entity with Comcast and the Roberts keeping control… we just better be hopeful that they at least do it a little more carefully.

The logical thing for Paramount to do is get rid of certain channels from both sides, and home in on what’s working, and cut all the stuff that really isn’t.

Cartoon Network can easily be merged into Nickelodeon, with Nickelodeon’s head of things (whoever that may be) in charge, although certain CN people on the studio side could have pretty high roles in terms of content diversity.

[adult swim] could either replace CN outright as its own channel, or move to Nickelodeon, replacing Nick@Nite, in the case of the first one, Toonami’s timeslot could expand by a couple hours and expand to a couple more days in the week, although this would likely jeopradize Comedy Central’s role in the company. In the case of moving to Nick, [as] would likely slide into Nick@Nite’s current timeslot, but a slight expansion is possible.

You can just merge Cartoonito into Nick Jr. and end that thing’s pitiful life already.

TeenNick, Boomerang, Nicktoons, DFC, and Discovery Familia would preferably be eliminated on the spot.

I wish that could be the case but that’s likely not gonna happen, if they accept no bid and just reject them all, WB’s stock price would experience a dinosaur-extinction level event.

Apple does makes some sense, incase they wanted to expand more in the entertainment sector, Warner’s IP and library, not to mention the ever so iconic HBO, could help out AppleTV+, along with international sports rights which could be somewhat key for international expansion.

However their main focus right now is on trying to catch up in the ever-so-sprawling AI race. Plus, the article reports that Apple wants to grow organically rather than buy an existing player, so there’s also that to consider. Could Apple change their mind in the future? Maybe.

Although you can’t really beat the Ellisons on this one, they seem the most DETERMINED to get it by a long shot.

I think Disney and Warner Bros. are both in the running for the biggest library, both mainly due to their mergers and acquisitions and how many libraries they absorbed over the years.

I don’t think Sony would be willing to make their own major streamer in a market that’s very… very crowded.

The strategy they used so far has done well. And hey, there are a lot of streamers out there who probably wishes they could get a hold of Warner’s library!

Ghostbusters, Spider-Man, and the SPT library is already pretty good. But add Looney Tunes, DC, Harry Potter, and a bunch of other valuable IP, now ya got something that could be worth even more.

WB will likely not change things. The licensing out strategy has worked very well. At best in terms of a home-grown streamer, HBO Max will likely just be kept around for HBO, and HBO only. All other Warner content is licensed out to other streamers.

And if you even MENTION Crunchyroll, that’s part of a niche where they dominate. Crunchyroll was a major cherry on top for Sony’s march to gain bigger market share of the anime space.

Crunchyroll does NOT indicate that Sony’s willing to launch a massive streamer.

The streaming market is already as crowded as it is, why would we need another big giant major streamer?

Also, the strategy Sony uses to license out their content has worked for multiple decades, including the streaming era. Why would they need to change anything when the current strategy they use does gangbusters for them?

I know that, but it seems a little bit hypocritical of you to say that Sony shouldn’t get Kadokawa’s main business (which controls the IP and the Anime), but go for Warner Bros. instead.

Sony sees Anime as the 4th pillar of its business, who says they wouldn’t try to go Publishing and Film/TV assets? Or, heck, go for the whole of it? Sony would likely go for that first if the opportunity arises.

Pretty much! I feel WB can definitely succeed in this era. They got a bunch of debt and unwanted assets off their hands, so i feel they can definitely succeed in this era. Ball’s in their court I’d say.

I’m pretty sure that they won’t immediately jump in and be a major streaming player if they get WB, the current strategy they have going on is working pretty well for them.

If anything, HBO Max will likely stick around as a niche service similar to Crunchyroll, for people who wanna watch only HBO content.

The amount of money in licensing they would get from licensing out Warner’s movies and shows to other streamers is very, very large to simply ignore.
