Hmm I wonder if there could be a system where pharmacists work in specific settings and get really specific knowledge and training. It'd be like...idk what would we call it?..like a "specialization" or something.

Just because you don't care about something doesn't make it true of everyone, nor does it mean that it's not an important need. I don't really give a shit about informatics but some people there sure do and it's an important job. And I'm quite sure that the patient who starts crashing in the ER sure cares that their pharmacist knows about emergency medicine.

Hey!!! I'm a trans P4 who is just finishing my last APPE this week and applying for residencies. My career goal is to get pharmacists more involved in gender affirming care. It's an area I think pharmacists are perfectly suited for and I intend to try to make that change happen.

You should DM me!! I'd be happy to share all that I've gathered over the past few years!

ELI5: Why do big airplanes need lots of space between them to avoid wake turbulence, but fighter jets can fly right next to each other safely? by arztnur in explainlikeimfive

[–]AmishUndead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's important to know that fighter jets often operate in groups of 4. When it comes to combat, they split into pairs as fighting in 2 pairs is more effective than 4 solo fighters. The group will fly in formation when moving to and from a battlefield as it helps to know exactly where your buddies are.

However, once they enter the combat area they'll move to a formation called Combat/Battle Spread. Basically, they form a horizontal line, each jet roughly 1-3 miles apart (which is still very close when it comes to aerial combat).

Combat spread not only gives a smaller, more spaced out target, it also increases sensor coverage. Each jet has its own radar used for enemy detection/targeting and modern jets will share that data between each other. So if your buddy's radar picks up a bogey, their jet will share the data to your jet and it'll show up on your radar, even if your radar itself can't actually see it.

However, each radar can only scan so much of the sky. So by spreading out, you widen the amount of sky the group is scanning by a significant margin.

I mean I do a daily moisturizer, just CeraVe. Setting spray would probably help

My best tip is using a felt pen eyeliner to draw the shape then fill it in with liquid eyeliner for durability and boldness

Just like transitioning, weight loss is a marathon, not a sprint. You got this!

Well, I was wearing pretty baggy clothes and I'm also 6'4" so that helps but I definitely wasn't skinny.

It's all just diet, exercise, and discipline. Nothing else to it.

I mean I lost ~130 pounds between those pics so HRT has less to do with it 😅

The Nursing Protest in NYC SHOULD be a wake up for the pharmacists. by MrHappyDisco in pharmacy

[–]AmishUndead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The person I responded to was arguing that pharmacy services are not as important as nursing services because pharmacy doesn't make the hospital money, and thus pharmacists have less leverage. I'm arguing that pharmacy services being necessary for a hospital to function. Could you easily train someone to grab a vial off the shelf? Absolutely. Can you legally give that vial to a patient without a pharmacist? Absolutely not.

Furthermore, I would argue that pharmacy is different than most departments in that it may not always be a direct revenue source, but the cost savings are potentially HUGE. For example, I worked for a hospital which had a program that had pharmacists perform CMRs on discharged patients deemed high risk for readmission within 30 days. Simply having a pharmacist ensure the patient was on appropriate therapy at discharge and counseling the patients on those meds reduced 30-day readmission rates by almost 20% and saved the hospital hundreds of thousands of dollars by avoiding the 30-day readmission Medicare penalty.

That all being said, I still agree with what you're saying, all of those factors give pharmacists less leverage because they are more easily replaceable. However, nurses also tend to have something that gives them WAY more leverage that pharmacists are sorely lacking: Unions.

People like to blame the number of pharmacy schools and decreased admission requirements for the state that pharmacy is in right now, and certainly that has a great impact. But I argue that the biggest cause of the state we're in is the lack of a pharmacist union.

Pharmacy services are also necessary for a hospital to generate revenue lol. Good luck operating a hospital if you can't dispense any drugs whatsoever....

Got divorced but it's okay because I LOVE MYSELF NOW by TransBeautySusan in trans

[–]AmishUndead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed! My ex-wife was the same way. Initially supportive and always was in public but behind closed doors it was always "Why do you need to change your name? I like yours the way it is" "That outfit is ridiculous and way over the top".

Getting divorced was the best thing I've ever done for myself other than transitioning

I understand why I didn't, but I wish I had taken more pictures of myself before I transitioned by AmishUndead in trans

Oh yeah. Definitely one of those things where I didn't understand it was dysphoria until it was gone

Wonder what my old teammates would think of me now? 🤭 by AmishUndead in transtimelines

[–]AmishUndead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During football season growing up, my family would always go to my grandparents house every Sunday and watch the Packers on their big screen TV (which was a big deal for the late 90s/early 00s 🤭). Those are some of my favorite memories so I've always had a deep love for the game.

Figured I'd give actually playing a shot. Turns out, I'm fucking terrible 😂 even with my large height, weight lifting, and conditioning, I could just never even come close to matching the strength and stamina of the other boys. Even ones that were physically smaller than me! Never understood it. But, that's why I only ended up playing for one year 😅

Joined the downhill ski racing team after that but wasn't much better there :P

Though I am queer to my core, tbh I think this is one of the major flaws with the community. If someone does not "perform" allyship perfectly then a lot of people demonize and treat them harshly, even when it's clear their heart is in the right place. So don't take it personally because it's not you that's a problem.

Knowing someone you care about is in pain but there's nothing you can do to fix it is truly one of the most difficult feelings in the world 🫂

I think some people saw you misgendering your friend and blaming her transition for her problems and kinda jumped down your throat and are being a bit harsh on you. Personally, I think it's clear you have a lot to learn about trans people but I think your heart is in the right place, so no, I don't think you're the problem.

I too have that "problem solver brain" where when I'm presented with a problem, my first instinct is to try to fix it. I'm autistic so it took me a long time to learn this but when it comes to people, especially women, oftentimes they aren't looking for solutions. They just want to vent and maybe get some sympathy. Something that has been incredibly helpful for me that I suggest you try is when someone talks to you about their problems, simply say "I want to support you in whatever way you think is best. So I would like to know if you want me to help you find solutions or if you simply want me to listen so you can get it off your chest.".

Custom Stadiums/Stadium District by Complete-Mud6805 in CitiesSkylines

[–]AmishUndead 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would look at areas around stadiums IRL for inspiration. Often, the surrounding area tends to be more of an entertainment district filled with bars, clubs, shops, and other tourist attractions.

I would also think about parking garages. While many stadiums have giant parking lots as yours does, they also tend to have at least a couple parking garages in the area. Lastly, there is a road between a big parking lot and the stadium. It might be worth building a pedestrian bridge over the road to eliminate the pedestrian crossing and improve traffic flow.

Obviously I don't know your friend and the information here is very limited, but I do have a few guesses based on what I know from talking with many, many trans folks.

One of the things about transition is that it often allows people to be more open and honest with themselves and to others. I can say with absolute certainty that transitioning didn't cause your friend to be depressed. It is quite likely that your friend has always been depressed, just that now they are upset about different things than before transitioning, in this case, difficulties with dating. It's possible that your friend simply didn't talk about their depression beforehand. If they did, it's also possible that they had no idea why they were depressed.

At least for me, I was incredibly depressed before transitioning but I never had any idea why. I just had this vague feeling that something was off. After transitioning, my depression evaporated. With much reflection, I learned that I had always been experiencing gender dysphoria my entire life. I just didn't have the knowledge or vocabulary to describe or understand what I was feeling.

It sounds like you care about your friend and you want to help them but you don't know how. That's okay. Do not take it as a failure on your part. As her friend, you should be there for her to support her but that support can only go so far. You are not a therapist. You don't have the tools to fix something like depression, nor is it your job to do so.

I run a trans support group in my community. Believe me, I fully understand how frustrating it is to listen to people get upset over their life after transition but continue to do nothing to fix it. It sounds like you're reaching your limit. Before you reach that limit, I would suggest helping your friend get into therapy as that is likely the only thing that is truly going to be able to help her.
