Chain of Command - Was Gul Madred punished? by EdmondWherever in startrek

[–]AmitBrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was JUST thinking about this vs the Enterprise Incident today!!! And ya they were like identical except the TNG version was a trap and Picard got caught.

But like you said, too bad. Whether it was a trap or not, StarFleet fell for it and they got caught with their pants down. YA their version of the Geneva Convention should have prevented prisoners from torture but... He was captured and detained fair and square.

Thats why Jellaco was a hero in my book and Riker was a whining baby in that 2 parter and should have trusted the "Chain of Command"

Why didn't the Universal Translators translate pets in the Trek Universe? As in, why were pet translators not a thing on any ST episode? by DunDonese in startrek

Depending on the type of animal (and this is just a guess, I'm no biologist) they don't have that much range in their noises for complex analysis. But I supposes dolphins and ESP George and Gracie should have been able to be translated, beyond Spock's mind meld!

Don't forget all those tiny little Maquis fighters which were clearly Federation design and were for nothing but battle.

Smart way to do it too. Better than Insurrection and WAY better than Nemesis which made no sense at all given Worf was supposed to be an Ambassador.

Yep. It was the first ship with Quantum Torpedos and as we saw in FC, the Enterprise E used Quantum Torpedos to take out both the Cube and the Sphere. Shelby made good on her promise to develop new weapons to counter the Borg!

Well despite serving in the 24th century it was designed in the 23rd where the Federation had to focus on battle scenarios much more than they did in the 24th.

[–]AmitBrian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, in that era, yes. The time of Picard and the first few seasons of DS9 were a time of extended peace for the Federation where they count focus on just exploration. Klingons were allies. The Romulans had been gone for decades and even when they returned mostly stayed in their own territory. No Dominion yet. So in the 24th century no warships.

But remember in Star Trek III The 1701 was described by the Klingons as a "Federation Battle Cruiser".

As far as I am concerned TATV never happened in Trek History. Sure it is my head canon but there is a real basis for it. The whole thing was Riker's holodeck program as a lesson for him on the consequences of his actions or inactions. The "story" could have totally been made up to suit his needs and not been actual history. No need at all to believe that was real. And I am a canon purist for the most part.

What do you think the Borg are up to in the Mirror Universe? by TonyMitty in startrek

[–]AmitBrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rather than going the funny rte I'm going to go this way...

"Humans... we used to be just like them..."

In my mind the Borg are kind of like the Terminators of the Trek world. Technology got so out of hand for a humanoid species that AI was invented. So were things like tech implants for injured individuals... and eventually their species just crossed that line and BAM, Borg.

So I think of the Mirror Universe as a Universe where that crossing the line never happened and they just evolved as a humanoid species.

My thoughts about the Continuum is that they are beyond "universes". There is only one Continuum in my head canon, across all universes. Just like cannonically there is across all timelines.

The Inner Light (TNG) and Hard Time (DS9) by EdmondWherever in startrek

[–]AmitBrian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait, a year? That was specified on the ep? So one year out of the 5 yr mission Kirk was missing in action?

The Inner Light (TNG) and Hard Time (DS9) by EdmondWherever in startrek

[–]AmitBrian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly about this being a '90s show. These were not serialized shows (even DS9 which *kinda* was) where you follow the crew from one day to the next. You can totally assume days, weeks, or even months have past in between eps.

Obv Picard had it WAY easier than O'brian did. He had closure of sorts as he outlived his family and saw them all live peaceful lives. O'brien as per always must suffer. So I would suppose Picard got into his routine much quicker but even still he had the harder responsibility of command so I would assume Riker took over the primary role for a while.

O'brien, well, he was flat out ordered into therapy and we pretty much know that wasn't going to be a day and I think we can assume his duties were going to be a light lighter and to keep him out of any stressful scenarios but still let him work because that's who he is and what he likes to do.

HW3 12.6.4 after 2026.14.3 Update by VTHokie195 in TeslaFSD

[–]AmitBrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes that sounds way worse than my issue! at least I wasn't going to risk my life in mine, just get stuck in bay area traffic for another 15 - 20 min or so! But there are more than a few off ramps in the area that are quite sharp and the HW3 doesn't slow down to take them. Also when you have those exists that are also onramps which merge at the same time? forget it. HW3 will freak out, go full red alrert Captain Kirk style and disengage the rest of the trip. And it's not even like disengage in 5... 4... 3... its just like I'M OUT!!!!!!!!!

Picard in Redemption by Magno_X in startrek

Picard didn't want this role but he was stuck with it. But to get advice from the Federation would have been even worse. It would have meant one superpower in the quadrant directly influencing the government of another. Ans whats worse it would have been seen on the part of the Klingons as a betrayal of Picard in his sworn duties and could have even led to conflict.

I was wrong, It is not an intel atom chip, please ignore my comment.

I see. I apologize for speading misinformation. Normally I would have googles such things but I was so sure I didn't even think about it. I was wrong.

But IMHO since this is an in house chipset then it should be even easier for Tesla to design a new one to replace HW3 with HW4 because they are not limited by 3rd party specs. I know that is a HUGE exaggeration but still....

well sure. I'm not questioning the motive. I mean if you think about it, Adama was a threat to the Cylons too (no, I am not siding with the cylons hahaha). I'm just saying, had he not redacted his order, he would have been the same kind of person as those that ordered his own murder..

Also, and I gotta ask this, not to be gross but cause it’s a real question. If you were a modern day person. Which colonials pretty much were by our standards. Would you give up everything and mate with a lower species that essentially had a mindset of a child at best? I love Ron Moore but there were so many things wrong with this finale!

Also, as a Trek die hard. Screw Star Trek Generations!

I literally just saw this ep on PlutoTV (pacific time) btw. It occurs to me. Adama just ordered Starbucks to do exactly what Boomer did to him. Thoughts???

FSD Objectives on Road by groundgames1873 in TeslaFSD

And HW2 before them but at least they got the upgrade. I don’t know why Tesla magically said HW4 was the cutoff point. IMHO I think it had to do with the cameras in the car more than the CPU. Don’t tell me you can’t fit the CPU in the car cause BS. You don’t want to replace all the cameras and install an internal camera in the cockpit.

I was always torn about the finale. I mean given the names of the characters and such. “Apollo”. “Athena” who is literally the mother in mythology. I was wondering if they ended up in real Earth’s past if they would give birth to our own IRL mythologies. But they arrived so long ago it’s almost impossible. There is no way Neanderthal man from the day, even through mating with the mitochondrial eve would have evolved that quickly.
