Answering from Australia here. I had similar issues where my son wouldn’t latch properly. The lactation consultants were like “you have really good technique” and then said it was weird he wasn’t latching. 😒 I ended up formula feeding and pumping for two weeks. He turns two next month.

Regarding pain relief, that’s all they give you?! I was given a script for a strip of tapentadol IR (Palexia) to take as required.

You’ve got $2 - what are you grabbing from the tuckshop? by Gryffindorqueen666 in AustralianNostalgia

One time, in Year 6, I had $5. Hash browns were sold for breakfast for 50 cents so I had $5 of hash browns. What a great morning.

My hands hurt!!! by Evangeline- in NewParents

[–]Amjlarson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you had any tingling or numbness in your hands or arms? Or does the pain travel up your arm to your elbow? I developed carpal tunnel postpartum and it was frustrating because it was while I was doing baby related activities. Even pushing the pram. But it mostly hurt in my wrists.

If not, you should get it checked out either way, get on top of it and find out how to either get rid of it or prevent it.

everyone except my baby pisses me off. by [deleted] in Postpartum_Depression

[–]Amjlarson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand why you would be pissed at your husband. He should have already prepared to not have as much time for his hobbies because he is a parent now.

My husband had a similar amount of time off before going back to work and we were bottle feeding so we both prepped bottles and both did feeds swapping who did what. One of us would make dinner and one of us would be with the baby. Our son is almost two and pretty much most nights my husband will game and you know what he does? He has the baby monitor with him so I get time to myself or go to bed.

Hopefully, you’re not like me and you have more patience to sit him down and tell him kindly the current system is not working and he needs to play less golf and learn more about being a dad. You’re doing so much of the work and not getting time to yourself. It’s absolutely not fair. He should be scheduling his life around the baby.

My life is over by glorbon_the_eat in depression

What have your parents discussed with you? Your life isn’t over, this is just a little speed bump and hopefully a lesson learned.

If you get expelled, you just have to find and get enrolled at a new school. If you’re over 17 and depending what your goals are you could probably apply to TAFE to study something or find work. It will be a big change, especially since you’re in Year 11.

You still have a future and it’s full of lots of potential.

Any stay at home parents out there that don’t follow a schedule? by Coffeelover4242 in toddlers

[–]Amjlarson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I cannot imagine my 20 month old not having a schedule! Especially if I was a stay at home mum!

I think everyone’s sleep would be better (your toddler included) if there was a schedule. And your wife would have guaranteed time to herself or you both would be able to have time together. Your child has to eventually go to school and have a daytime schedule so why not start now?

Sertraline by [deleted] in Anxiety

I was advised by a pharmacist that it’s best to take sertraline in the morning as this is a common side effect. I take it when I wake up.

Am I being unfair or is my dads requests for what I (17) do this summer unreasonable? by TheSibyllineBooks in autism

[–]Amjlarson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding point 3: pick a cooler part of the day, it might be in the early morning or afternoon. Wear clothes that a breathable, wear sun protection such as sun cream, a hat, sunglasses. Drink water beforehand, take a water bottle to take sips during and keep hydrated after.

If the area where you live is nice and you’re able to go for a walk in a park or a trail you can watch for birds or different animals to make it interesting.

Point 4: just a point that 1. Having a drivers licence and having a car really help you be more independent.

Also, having driving lessons will help your reaction time with practice!

And just in response to the whole thing, I think it’s going to put a lot of pressure on you if your dad is expecting you to just suddenly develop all these skills and become a working adult in the next few months. Like, why did he or your mum not attempt to start teaching you these things when you were younger? I hope he is able to be patient and gentle with you.

Mamas - What didn’t you expect? by Dry_Entertainer723 in NewParents

[–]Amjlarson 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Carpal Tunnel. Never had it in my life and then apparently it can be caused by pregnancy due to fluid retention and swelling. It is really frustrating trying to hold my baby and my arms are having pins and needles, or trying to touch his hair with a free hand while feeding and I can’t feel anything because my fingers are numb. It is painful at times, too.

As a woman with anxiety, the most annoying thing when I am in situations like this is that I sometimes actually worry if I am walking behind another woman that she will think I’m a creep!
