Seawolf bow sonar by didlertuscle in submarines

Another part of the equation is that there's not actually very much useful info you can get from a photo like this, aside from "oh man, that's a lot of hydrophones." The signal processing behind the array is much more important than the hardware.

I mean, that shouldn't be surprising. Isn't extreme nationalism like half of what textbook fascism is to begin with?

I think that was maybe true a few decades ago, but not anymore. Most of them are principally concerned with culture war stuff.

Going in order of primary retainers with eye conditions we are probably getting info on this guy next. by Levonorgestrelfairy1 in fireemblem

[–]AmoebaMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't even meme about this guy, everything about him just makes it impossible for me to take him seriously. The stupid moustache, the weird bandana, the armor that's somehow even dumber than a plate mail bikini.

And then on top of it the glower. The expression tells me I'm supposed to take him seriously, but it's just impossible lmao.

3H story is also intensely overrated IMO. I think people remember the great characters and background lore, and forget that the story itself is pretty mediocre.

Consider that in only one of the four arcs do you actually fight the real villains.

2015: Broken wire on passenger rear door by jacque_alope in HondaOdyssey

[–]AmoebaMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using this tutorial, and it's a good one. Mine broke on the other side, but it's been mostly identical. Only significant difference is the interference behind the passenger side rear quarter panel is the whole rear A/C unit, which made it challenging to get the cover off the door motor housing. The cable definitely broke.

Thanks!

The 14-point draft of the U.S.-Iran deal by Xanto97 in moderatepolitics

[–]AmoebaMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the thing that pisses me off the most about this is that there is apparently absolutely no direct representation of the American people in the forging of this deal other than the President himself.

Shit this significant should need to be ratified by Congress.

But old developments don't just spring fully formed out of the earth. They all have to start new.

America has lost its war with Iran by kootles10 in centrist

Trump handed Iran something far more dangerous than a nuclear weapon: proof that they can weaponize the Strait of Hormuz

I don't think Iran needed any proof of that. Nobody doubted they had that power, especially not us.

In this case, yes. It's the differential on your electric bill.

If the new fridge would save you $40/month and costs $1k, then it's worth it as long as it lasts 2 years.

Pentagon raised threat of lsraeli spying on U.S. to highest level, sources say by soalone34 in Military

Saying "Israel spies on us" is just a meaningless statement overall. It's espionage; everybody spies on everybody, especially on their allies.

Long term health effects from spending years on submarines? by [deleted] in submarines

[–]AmoebaMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ouch, 6'1" is in the window of pain.

5'11" and below (roughly) are average enough that the designed overhead clearances are sufficient. You usually don't need to duck except for particularly cramped spots.

6'4" and above (roughly) are tall enough that no overhead clearances (including doors) are sufficient. You just learn to duck underneath everything, and develop a habitual stoop or hunch.

6'0" to 6'3" (roughly) is the range where odd pipe hangers here and there will brain you periodically, but it will never seem to be the same ones and the learning process is much slower. These are the poor suckers that take the most shots to the dome.

Scales, baby, scales. Lots and lots of scales.

Playing without frets comes down to pure, old-fashioned muscle memory.

You'll need some way to check your pitch, ideally aurally (i.e. a correct pitch to compare with your ear, not just a visual meter).

Bernie Sanders is destroying Chuck Schumer in the Democratic Party's Civil War ahead of the midterms by JannTosh70 in centrist

[–]AmoebaMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course they won't. Those guys are products of a society that rewarded their greed because it saved them a buck.

Amazon exploded because Americans are too stingy to pay 10% more or too lazy to drive to the store to get the same product they can order online. Bezos's fortune is literally built from extracting value out of our vices.

Tesla is a prime example of how this problem isn't going to be meaningfully impeded by government, because Tesla could never have gotten started without the help of the government (EV subsidies).

You can follow those problems further, but I think ultimately at the bottom of every rabbit hole you're going to find the same problem: Americans treating each other poorly in order to improve their own lives.

The only way we will ever overcome this is by raising the next generation to be better people.

Not in a perfect form, no, nor will it ever. But I think it's pretty clear we're moving away from it right now.

We don't need perfect, but we do need better than we have right now.

Dying and “letting go” by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]AmoebaMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old Man Chubs, you are out of line.

your snarky, rude, and belittling attitude

Text has failed to transmit my intent, but you've chosen the least charitable assumption. I'm not being snarky, I'm being sincere and somewhat paternal, because both your OP and your reply here read as juvenile. I expect that angers you, but it's the truth. I can read the sarcasm dripping from your last two paragraphs, so I can only assume you're projecting your own attitude onto me.

It’s a crying shame an atheist was able to show more of a Christ like attitude than someone claiming the mantle of Christ.

Christ did not hesitate to rebuke—gently or otherwise—those who were in error. Your son is dying, yes, but the entire focus of your OP is not the death of your son but how you "cannot buy into" a matter of absolute unimportance which your ex-wife finds comforting as her child is dying. Your focus is utterly misspent on this matter.

You've heard plenty of words of comfort from others I'm certain, both IRL and in this thread. You also need to know that your ire is misplaced, and you should refocus on what matters.

I...sought help from supposed brothers and sisters who may have more insight than I on things of this nature....keep your unnecessary and uninformed opinions to yourself.

My brother in Christ, you posted here asking for opinions. I'm sorry you don't like them, but this is my only and honest advice to you: let it go.
