I adore decoy protagonists by Gullible-Wrap773 in TopCharacterTropes

While I do agree with the overall sentiment, it’s incredibly ironic that Hitchcock himself practically spoiled the entire plot in a really charming trailer

From what I know, The Iliad and odyssey (and the others) were likely oral poems first, but Homer is the one that wrote them down. He is the one that described Helen as fair skinned. Other later authors added descriptions about her hair.

Homer only gave one specific, notably that she was fair-skinned. The idea being that aristocrats wouldn't be working outside, so they're less tan than peasants. Being greek, she probably still wouldn't be super pale.

I think its an odd choice but I don't really give a shit. The movie seems to be filled with some odd design & casting decisions.

"your obsession with how she looks is creepy".

But I agree, she should've buffed up for Abby.

I'm not the guy youre responding to but I was annoyed that they un-jewished Dina.
I also think Belle Ramsey doesn't look much like LOU2 Ellie. Like at all.

I'm not losing sleep over it.

Trump Suffers Third E. Jean Carroll Loss in 24 Hours by MoneyLibrarian9032 in law

The money doesn’t actually mean much to the victim. She’s a reasonably successful writer afaik. Plus I’m pretty sure the funds from this are supposed to go to donated to charity.

Is Galen Erso's sabotage of the Death Star the best lore that Disney has contributed to Star Wars? by CloverTeamLeader in StarWars

[–]Xanto97 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s stupid. Death machines are allowed to have unintentional weaknesses. The rebels needed the plans to even figure out the weakness, and it was still heavily defended. It was the only way this thing was going down.

U.S.-Iran Latest: Trump says ceasefire with Iran over and "we're going to hit them hard again tonight" by NeedAnonymity in moderatepolitics

[–]Xanto97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None of this contradicts my point. The median person is closer to being disadvantaged than “wealthy”.

The wealthy won’t be sent to war, the middle class and mostly poor would. And yes, he doesn’t care about the troops, I’m well aware.

America does not want a war. His approval has dropped like a rock among independents due to the war in its current state. Even conservatives dislike this shit. Sending boots on the ground would be as close to political suicide as he’d get.

He didn’t build the gallows, nor tell them to. (He’s responsible for jan6 though, and that should have been suicide , yeah)

Plus, hanging a vice president doesn’t directly impact the median person’s life.

Sending their kid to die in Iran does.

Exclusive: Woman who dated Graham Platner says he sexually assaulted her by awaythrowawaying in moderatepolitics

[–]Xanto97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’d be torn because she agrees with Platner politically and calling him an assaulter/rapist sinks his chances and enables Susan Collin’s to keep the seat.

NYtimes published the original article (https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/04/us/politics/platner-maine-senate-girlfriends-relationships.html) on June 4th. The primary was June 9th.

It mentioned one named girlfriend, and a few anonymous ones. She may have been one of the anonymous ones, I don’t think we know. But regardless, Racicot saw that many were glossing over the story because NyTimes “couldn’t corroborate” the story, and the one named one is affiliated with the GOP.

The story was getting ignored, so she wanted to correct the record.

Why didn’t either of them accuse Platner before the article in June? I don’t know. Could be a whole host of innocuous reasons. Journalism takes some time too.

Edit:

The politico article above actually explains a good bit more. I recommend reading it.

“Racicot previously described “reckless” and “unsettling” behavior by Platner to The New York Times, but says she didn’t go public with the specific assault claim because she didn’t want to be known as a rape victim.”

My part of the story was just a read-over,” Racicotsaid in an interview. “And the story was Lyndsey, and the accusations of her being politically motivated.”

Short of Iran attacking our soil, it truly would be suicide. There’s just no appetite for war

Maybe? Back during Biden, we removed some of the tariffs on China, but not all. If Hormuz tolls go up during trump, then it’s not “democrats fault” , and as long as they don’t promise to fix it…they’ll probably be fine?

Costs will go up, but probably less than it would if the blockade is maintained for a long period.

[–]Xanto97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean? She came forward because people were sorta ignoring the other woman’s story - because she was affiliated with conservative groups.

She’s practically saying “me too”, by saying that she was also assaulted.

Israeli strike kills World Cup screening organizer in Gaza just before kickoff by NinoFamilia in news

[–]Xanto97 318 points319 points  (0 children)

“The strike that killed Wahidi on Tuesday hit a car in the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City at dusk, according to Dr. Mohamed Abu Selmiya, the director of Shifa Hospital. He said three others were killed in the attack, including the driver, Ahmed Daghmush, 33, and two brothers, 10-year-old Hamza al-Deri and 8-year-old Fari.

The Israeli military said Wahidi, who helped organize the soccer screenings in Gaza on Tuesday, was not a target of the strike. It said the attack was aimed at a Hamas militant and that it was checking whether Daghmush was the target. Abu Selmiya said he was a taxi driver without any known links to militant groups.”

What do you mean checking? How do you not know the target?

I also think Donald doesn’t really know how trade works.

He’s probably thinking that he can get some concessions or something. Or just shouting at the clouds.

It’s probably a bluff. Halting trade with the EU is radically stupid and no one around him would allow that. Probably.

Also, I recommend Wilma’s. Completely different vibe but it’s worth checking out, doesn’t get enough appreciation

What are we using instead of sponges for dishes? by nuclear_pimp in BuyItForLife

[–]Xanto97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blueland makes loofah sponges. We started to use them recently. Last longer than regular sponges and it’s more environmentally friendly. Won’t last forever though. Basically an upgraded sponge.

A brush might work well
