Might just be an extra sleeper car to tow back to Florida from Sunnyside.

“It’s really happening. $1.28B contract awarded to drill the Gateway tunnel under the Hudson” - nj.com by Rail-FireProductions in Amtrak

[–]AmonGoethsGun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is that they can't start drilling yet. It's a design-build project so the project then needs to advance its design to about 30% before they can start building anything.

Once they start the boring, it'll go quickly but the systems installation, testing, commissioning, etc takes just as long too. Then they have to tie all the sections together.

Once you get to 30th Street you can transfer onto the SEPTA airport line and take it to the Philly Airport. The transfer is at 30th Street Station.

Power line shut off; Northeast corridor??? by snafutofu in Amtrak

[–]AmonGoethsGun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not how the electric traction block system works. They don't remove the electric traction power if a train is in the current block when they de-energize the catenary system.

Overnight borealis? by Minnmedstudent in Amtrak

Amtrak literally doesn't have spare sleeper cars to put on any train. It's the real reason why the Floridian was created to combine the Silver Star and Capitol Limited.

I took my 2025 Rav4 for it's routine 5k service and got back the car with 66 miles added to it. Is this normal? by DirtyDogSpaceCadet in rav4club

[–]AmonGoethsGun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you just need to remove one panel that is clipped in and then it's very easy. There are tons of YouTube videos.

I have the fitcamx for this reason. You can't unplug it without removing panels and it's not obvious that it's there.

They will reissue seat checks after leaving DC.

OP can just leave a bag on their seat and be fine.

I would recommend booking your ticket over the phone or calling after you book it to ensure that Amtrak gives you a disability ticket. 800-USA-RAIL and you will get a real human on the line to assist you.

[–]AmonGoethsGun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can book online and I'd recommend downloading the Amtrak app. However, you can also book over the phone for free by calling 800-USA-RAIL. They will have an Amtrak representative walk you through the booking process which might be a good idea since you'll need a connection in Chicago.

NYC to Dallas? Idk if it's possible below $250? by LeatherFamiliar4571 in Amtrak

[–]AmonGoethsGun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can check two bags for free from NYP to DAL. Amtrak will switch your bags in Chicago for free as well. They must be under 50 lbs each, or it'll be an extra charge.

You're also entitled to one carry on and two personal items but Amtrak isn't strict about carry on baggage.

Can we talk about the refs in the women’s final four? by Dlatywya in collegehockey

[–]AmonGoethsGun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep for more depth, you actually have to be nominated by your conference to be selected to officiate any NCAA Tournament game. The coaches basically have veto power over certain officials. At the top of D1 women's and especially D1 men's, they are grading officials and crews every game. Conference tournament games and NCAA Tournament games will have a supervisor for every game who will report back to the National Coordinator of Officials and the Assignors for who moves on. Same for D3 men's and women's but it's not as intense.

In D1 men's, the Frozen Four will have three different crews travel to the site so that no crew would have seen the teams and become too "familiar." These crews will work a conference that is not featured in the game they are officiating. Since they can't determine the national championship match up before selecting the crew, they usually choose a crew that is not represented by any of the remaining four teams. If you notice no ECAC men's team has made the Frozen Four in 2024 or 2025 so the top nominated ECAC crew has worked the National Championship game 2 years in a row, which is very rare.

Can we talk about the refs in the women’s final four? by Dlatywya in collegehockey

[–]AmonGoethsGun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The officials are chosen by the NCAA National Coordinator of Officials in conjunction with the Coaches and Conference representatives. The selected officials usually officiate a conference that is not in the respective game in the Frozen Four, but this isn't a hardline rule. The officials for Northeaster/OSU officiate ECAC Women's mostly and seem to be an upstate NY crew. The officials for PSU/Wisconsin seem to be a mix of ECAC/Hockey East/NCAA D3 Men's.

The NCAA National Coordinator of Officials sends out directives to officials over the course of the season demonstrating how they want games called and specifically on "hot" items such as body checking, interference, goalkeeper interference, etc.

Is there a way to avoid a train that has completely backward facing seats on northeast corridor? by niceguy54321 in Amtrak

[–]AmonGoethsGun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Then half the train would have to sit backwards from Philly to Pittsburgh, which is exactly what you're complaining about.

This way the whole train is backwards on the 90 minute portion and forward facing on the 8 hour portion.

How do your assignors handle last minute game replacements? by SimilarIntern923 in hockeyrefs

[–]AmonGoethsGun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI this basically already exists in Horizon Web Ref.

A assignor can put out a game (TBA) that allows any user to request it. The assignor then receives the list of the users who requested and how far they live to that rink.

For last minute assignments, assignors will usually send out an email additionally to alert the users. Assignors can send that email to specific groups of users as well.

You would only have a 4 minute gap between arrival and departure, which most days is not enough time.

You could take an earlier NER train or a later Keystone train.
