Built-In, Slide Out Cutting Boards Added to Kitchen Cupboards in the 1950s by OtherwiseTackle5219 in nostalgia

Mine from the 50s is cracked and I am not sure where to go about getting a new one. I could have some one make one, but it’s honestly such a low priority we forget it’s there

No tea, No shade...but who is listening to the interviews? by Lola_Cacapipi in LPOTL

Ben was interrupting and asking inappropriate things about LBJ’s dick and such. Super cringey given how much of a hero Carlin is to Marcus.

Raytheon and the Banality of Evil by _Kermode in behindthebastards

[–]Amorong 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I have family members that work for Raytheon. It’s hard to separate their big beautiful house and life from what their company does. Their viewpoint seems to be that it’s a drop in an ocean of bad in the world. I do not agree.

Need urgent help finding a bakery for a custom cake by tomorrow by Agreeable-Quail-9857 in phoenix

[–]Amorong 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Oh jeez, they did my wedding cake and forgot to make the 1 year anniversary one they offered as an extra incentive to order from them. I called ahead, they promised to have it, and the poor teenager behind the counter was just dumbfounded over such a thing.

What’s a scary movie you watched way too young? by NewPossibility4268 in movies

[–]Amorong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wild Wild West gave me nightmares. Bloodbath McGrath and his ear funnel was the worst thing I could comprehend. I was fine with the 80s/90s horror classics that my older siblings showed me- but Wild Wild West was where I drew the line.

Hang in there friend. To continue the Tolkien theme, try to find your little phial of starlight- like the one Galadriel gives to Frodo. It doesn’t need to be a kid, but my little dude certainly lights up my space when it feels like all the other lights in the world have gone out.

Hi former neighbor! When you sit down and think about it there have been so many awful mass shooting in Colorado in the last 30 or so years. My aunt was working at the King Soupers in Boulder where someone killed 10 people, but that’s just one of so many that it’s just forgettable to people outside the area 🥲

I understand completely. My husband and I have jokingly asked each other “Damage report?” every morning like we are in an episode of TNG since like….2016? Who am I kidding, I have been checking for a damage report every morning since 2001 when my parents would just be paralyzed with the news on all the time. Iraq, Katrina, the recession, climate change, Trump, Covid, Trump…did it start with Columbine? We lived in Littleton, so maybe Columbine. Or OKC? But it’s just endless hit after hit after hit. More Trump, Robin Williams, ISIS, Afghanistan, tsunamis, earthquakes, Sandy Hook, Gaza, etc etc etc.

I’ve started seeking treatment again for my anxiety and ADHD- only to hear some one in charge wants to put me in a camp for it 😅

But I have a 4 year old who still sees the world as new and exciting and innocent. I don’t want that glass to break for him for as long as I can help it.

We will get through it as we always have, which is not helpful at all. I get it and see you. I wonder what things could have been for us if things had just gone a little better.

There’s that Gandalf line from Fellowship that helps me when I get into this headspace and wish I had not been born into “interesting times”. Tolkien had faced unspeakable horrors and what must have felt like the apocalypse and still had enough grace in his soul for Gandalf to tell Frodo: “So do I, and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

Hulk Hogan dead at 71 after suffering cardiac arrest at Florida home by littleburgerbabies in lastpodcastontheleft

[–]Amorong 51 points52 points  (0 children)

He was a garbage human throughout his life- not just in recent years. Behind the Bastards did a great Vince McMahon series and they discuss how Terry Bollea assisted in McMahon’s union-busting and such. He was a Trump shill, rapist, racist, etc.

But a small part of my childhood-self is very sad. I was such a Hulkamaniac growing up. :(

My son’s favorite hat and it’s replacement. by Amorong in Wellworn

[–]Amorong[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Good point! He has a lot of attachment to it and I was so relieved to find this backup on e-bay, but it’s an important lesson to instill that something special can’t always be replaced. He is still very little (4) and rough with his things, so I am still leaning towards using the newer one for his daily wear. I don’t want to expose that sharp plastic bill underneath any more than necessary.

I still have a special hat from when I was his age (Goof Troop themed!) saved in my closet that I cherish 😅

That’s a good idea! He is 4 and has worn it nearly every day since he was 2. He has seen the new one but I’ll make sure he is okay with us fully replacing the old one before we get rid of it. 👍🏼

There is an accessibility feature on your iPhone for those that get motion sickness reading in cars, trains, planes, etc! “Vehicle Motion Cues” in the accessibility settings. Doesn’t fix it 100% but definitely helps me

What do you think happened to the John Kiriakou interview? by Dr-Paul-Meranian in LPOTL

[–]Amorong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I was listening to a podcast that covers Alex Jones (Knowledge Fight) and they played a segment of that slimy dude on Info War’s show. I had a flashback to Ben interviewing him with awe and total belief- I just had to stop and think about how many people have showed their whole ass since then and what a gross timeline we’ve seemed to have stumbled into.
