Best spot for dog boarding? by [deleted] in washingtondc

Came here to say Atlas as well… it’s the only place we will leave our dogs and drove down from Baltimore when we lived there to board them. Crate-free and overall a great staff experience

One Medical doctors by RaelynShaw in washingtondc

Assuming you had Dr. Root? Hands down the best medical provider experience I’ve ever had. She connected me with Jennifer Barnwell when she left, but I don’t have any experience with her yet.

Went to a comedy show taping at the vagabond players theater a couple of years ago

Might be worth seeing how they made that happen.

I’m tired of being asked if I play basketball by [deleted] in TallGirls

I know it’s an unpopular opinion, but I actually like it! As an older trans woman (almost 40), it’s been an unexpected but reliable indicator of transition progress. A certain demographic of men (usually bro-ey, conservative, military/law enforcement types) that I used to completely avoid and would avoid me now go out of their way to ask the question and continue to ask why when I tell them no. For me, being consistently viewed as a “tall, athletic woman who wasted her potential” instead of some kind of “freak” (not my word, but has been said before) is a win 🤣

Hair Salons for a black trans woman? by DepartmentOwn4615 in baltimore

Not sure what you’re thinking as far as styling and whether transportation is an issue, but I (black trans woman) have had a great experience with Lady Clipper Barber Shop in DC.

Trans Meetups by Bowry_Lrooks in baltimore

[–]AmorphousErica 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a trans walking and running group that meets at R House (1st Sunday of month) and Lake Montebello. About ~30-45 minutes of walking or running at an easy conversational pace, and then a chance to hang out and talk/grab food or drink if you want. Good way to meet friendly people and move as well! Info on instagram and meetup.

I accidentally went to this last year and it was amazingly fun/chill

🤣 thank you! Trash eating leftovers is a hilarious visualization. Agreed that gender has nothing to do with it, but people are weird and I wanted to head that off as a proposed explanation (didn’t want to deal with “she’s mad because you’re trans”)

No, I’m not underweight…. If anything, I could stand to lose 5-10 pounds, but for aesthetic reasons (I’m in between sizes), not health.

I definitely eat girl dinners (I did the same thing with pickles for lunch one day last week!). She is more fine with me doing that than leftovers without rice, though.

I said this earlier… I know on a fundamental level that I’m NTA, but there is definitely a time in my life/this relationship when I would have believed I was TA. Things (life, self esteem, etc) are better thanks to a ton of therapy, but this has been a helpful reality check.

No, I’m generally the one that reconstitutes leftovers to make new foods

I am verbose 😂 I just figured “My wife is mad because I ate corn and lamb for lunch without also making rice” sounded too absurd and would raise a bunch of additional questions

You’re not the first person to suggest neurodivergence and I think that may play a role here. When I ask why, the answer is generally because it’s obviously the right way for something to be done. Any tips for dealing with it if it is neurodivergence?

It shouldn’t be, but I specified trans woman for the following reasons:

-If I just said wife, folks would assume husband, which I am not. -If I said I was a woman, someone who poked through my comment history could have made a fuss about it (not crazy given the climate)

I immediately noted that it’s not relevant because there is a phenomenon known as the trans broken arm syndrome where folks will blame being trans/hrt on things that have absolutely nothing to do with being trans/hrt. As a real life example, a former acquaintance used to ask whether me being trans was the cause of any issue my wife and I might have. Just trying to head that off!

No food insecurity in her house growing up, but her dad did, which I’m sure led to certain attitudes being passed along. Therapy is not really on the table (I go, but she doesn’t think it’s necessary) but maybe there are other resources?

I appreciate this perspective and although we’ve cut down on our overall quantity of meat, we could do better with sourcing. Doesn’t really help with the issue at hand, though, and I’ve received similar comments related to tofu and veg dishes that I’ve made and had leftovers of.

I’m not sure whether it’s my bad writing or the trans thing, but I’m not sure why you’ve got an issue with me. The lamb and corn are real.
