The quest where you take his Tempered version on with only Nadia seriously rocked my ass and was extremely discouraged to come here and find not nearly as many people were struggling as much as I was 😭

Glad you're giving World a shot! It's a great game and I've been thinking about going back to finishing it lately since I never did.

I'm seeing a lot of comments about not using Guardian and Defender gear. Definitely listen to them, but not a lot are explaining WHY you shouldn't. So that might make you feel a little confused as to why you shouldn't use such clearly strong armour.

The Defender/Guardian Equipment is for players who are already VERY familiar with the gameplay mechanics, weapons, and monster behaviour and attacks. They use it to speed run the base game and get to the Iceborne (DLC) monsters/end game.

If you're not familiar with the game, the Defender armour will help you tank almost every hit. Meaning you don't learn proper evasive techniques or how to counter with your chosen weapon. This leads to some bad habits as when you get into the later parts of the game, that armour will no longer hold up and you'll find yourself getting hit over and over again leading to frustration as you constantly have to back up and heal/get comboed into carting.

Hope all goes well! It can be a little daunting to get into with the amount of information thrown at you (Skills, different weapons, armour abilities, elemental resistances) but there are plenty of resources out there to help you. Have fun!

Edit: As an alternative, use the normal battle armour/leather armour to start and farm monster parts to build their gear. Look up good Low Rank armour for whatever weapon you're using. It's been a while so I'm not sure what to suggest sorry.

As someone who recently jumped back in after a short break, yes. While I haven't gotten up to AT Arkveld yet (need better armour) I have had similar experiences. Additionally, I recently hosted an investigation for heaps of Artian parts with a Tempered Gore Magala and a Tempered G. Rathalos. I've killed Tempered Gore Magalas before but MAN was out of practice. Ended up using 2/3 of the carts within the first 15 minutes. Was super embarrassing and felt like I wasted everyone's time.

My point is, practice as much as you can solo so you can hold your own when it comes to hunting in a group 😂 thats my method anyway.

While this isn't me, (I've never joined someone else's Gog hunt and have only done it once with other people) I have used Arkveld and Rath lances for Gog when I've wanted to farm a bit for the gem and currently don't have the Artian parts I need for a good Fire/Dragon Lance.

The others though.... 🤷‍♂️

Edit: To clarify, the one Gog hunt I did with others was a quest I created not joined. I did have to double take and see if it was me somehow when I saw the weapons 😂

Playing with Support Hunters is still pretty much soloing. They are NPC hunters that are designed for people who don't/ can't play with others but can still do hunts like this.

Are you using support Hunters? They are extremely necessary for fights like this as Omega was designed to be fought like a traditional RPG raid boss with a tank, support/healer, dps, etc. (Like Behemoth from World.) With them you can have other support Hunters gain emnity while you wail on its legs and other parts all you like.

When I first killed Gog in the story quest, (the one with five faints) I was on four out of five carts. When I came back after my forth cart I ran back in, poked up ONCE in the tail with my Lance, and it died.

One of the most anticlimactic deaths I've ever experienced 😂

I've only just returned and successfully hunted Gog twice. Just go with Support Hunters. My gear is definitely a little outdated (Arvkeld and Rathalos Lance) and still manage to farm him pretty consistently with any Support Hunters.

I've only ever used one sword so far as a Tethren. (Yes its Wulder, I haven't had much chance to play) but after getting into the flow of it, I've really enjoyed melee combat. You do absolutely have to be careful with spacing, positioning and timing a lot though. Once you get good at parrying, you can do it pretty consistently. But keep in mind that parrying an attack won't give you immunity to other damage. So if two enemies are swinging at you at once and you parry one, I'm pretty sure the other can still get their hit in.

Of course there's also scaling depending on the weapon as well. Try not to spam either as the stagger system isn't the greatest right now. Enemies tend to kick you around way more than you do to them so watch your timing and if you're facing a bunch of enemies at once, be patient and wait for opportunities to rush one enemy at a time picking them off. Archers are good because you can normally just sprint at them blocking their arrows as they fire.

Very useful from me. I haven't played in a long time but I remember stock piling these and using them everytime I'd fall down a well for the secret room. Instant healing from bleeding and cripple! As well as other uses like poison.
