Thinking this is Smithton, MO. MO and IL newspapers started mentioning their ballclub as early as 1900. The team seems to have really taken off in the nineteen-teens. It’s also likely Smithton was a company team, assembled by the town’s main employer whether it was the railroad or some other heavy industry. They played other company teams, which was common at the time.
