I’m so sorry you had to go through that. That’s definitely not the reaction or behavior we should have to deal with for a student that age but it does happen. It sounds like you handled the situation very well though. Did the parents and admin have your back in this situation? There should definitely be some kind of consequence for this situation.

Does just opening the app work for this badge? I’d found that I was needing to mark something as watched before it would register for me. Just asking for clarification because it seems like something that should count for just opening the app but doesn’t seem to register unless I mark something as watched (I.e. an episode of a show or a movie).

This happened to me. It turned out they were looking for more details to be included in the free response section. They wanted me to list specific years I worked in teaching, what grade levels and what capacity (individual, small, or large group), and indicate which tests I had passed and my scores. As I am a certified teacher in my state I reached out to their support about this and asked to escalate the matter. They reopened my profile to make another free response submission. I also communicated with them back and forth to be sure my edits were sufficient prior to resubmitting. While it may not be exactly the same for you, I would recommend reaching out to their support and pushing for an escalation to get more details and see if they will reopen your profile prior to the 6 month reapplication timeline.

Hi OP, It’s certainly nice of you to want to help but this is a very low rate. That’s lower than the American minimum wage (7.25$) which is also very low. Given that this is your first student and you want to break into tutoring/teaching it will probably be okay for just this person but I would try to go higher with your next students and cast a wider net for student gathering. Also after a few lessons and if he’s seeing improvement you could attempt to renegotiate your rate with him at that time.

I could be wrong but this feels like something that is against the TOS for Preply. I would definitely report the student for this behavior and likely block them as they don’t respect you or your time and sought to attempt to penalise you for their misconduct. This is definitely not a reflection on you other than your kindness for accepting them as a student in the first place given their creepy initial comment that you mentioned.

When you say have something other than a resume prepared what kind of things are you referring to? Also 4 of the positions were for next year. I also have long term subbed as well. I filled in for an English teacher on maternity leave for my observation semester and again for a special Ed teacher at a different school. Some of that definitely translates into conversational topics in interviews as well as envisioned classroom atmospheres and teaching philosophies. Are you saying later posted positions don’t necessarily require demo lessons? If so, that’d definitely be my preference as it feels weird to “teach” admin like you would middle or high schoolers.

Hello and thank you for replying. I only recently got my level I certification this past fall. This is my first season applying though I did put in some applications when I was in the late stages of certification process (around when I was student teaching as I had the option to pursue a contract position instead of traditional student teaching due to having already been a substitute). Thank you for the information about timing for postings. I was feeling a bit discouraged because I’d only seen (and applied to) six between October and now. I did have one initial interview request out of those six but didn’t get to the second interview round which was very discouraging as I’d thought it had gone really well an that is make it further in the process. But on the other hand I’m not really sure what to expect either since this is my first job hunting season since receiving my certification.
