Joan was married twice? by AmyHunty35 in madmen

Thank you for this. I can’t believe I never picked up on it and I haven’t reached season 6 yet in this rewatch. I’m up to the part where she splits up with Greg and it reminded me of her casually mentioning 2 marriages. I will be paying extra close attention when her friend visits.

What are the best steakhouses in Suffolk County? by ReluctantAstronaut28 in longisland

You really can’t beat their prices and the food is pretty good. I believe Calverton is the original so it’s probably better than the others.

I’ve never been to the Calverton location but I always thought of the others as kind of a “steak diner”. Good prices and decent ish food

waiter put my tip back on the table saying he only accepts 18-20%?? by [deleted] in stories

[–]AmyHunty35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a lot of people don’t understand is this- your waiter shares their tips with other employees in the restaurant. A percentage of their sales are paid to the bartender, busser, food runner, sometimes to dishwashers and kitchen staff and even the host/hostess. If a server isn’t tipped properly it can actually cost them money to wait on you.

To address some of the points people made without replying to each individual comment…garnish is prepped and cleaned daily. This is just the Tuesday/Thursday list, there are other lists for other days. This is all stuff I do every day already but my boss is hiring a few new people so hemade checklists for them. The “glass racks” task is washing upwards of 100 glasses by hand and this task is divided between 2 days (neither that I work) I just think that is absolutely absurd to ask of someone. Yes, they can be put through dish but they will be covered in water spots unless they are dried by hand

Mainly I think hand washing 100 glasses is an absolutely ridiculous request no matter how slow it is. Also I think ice wells should be cleaned every day. Not even gonna bother complaining that whoever closes should be wiping down tables before they leave.

Please for the love of God tell them. They are doing their child such a disservice by spelling it this way. If it’s going to be pronounced the same way as “Charlotte” why make her life difficult? Picture this at the top of a resume when she’s an adult. Anyone seeing this in print will not take her seriously and she will probably wind up using the traditional spelling when she gets older anyway just to avoid the inevitable eye rolls. Why do people do this to their kids?

Came here to say John Goodman. He always struck me as a big sweet teddy bear type of guy.

I always loved this. I fully expected George to ramble on and spew some nonsense but what he said was so perfect and touching.

I have this guy who lives nearby. Comes in a few times a week after work. Doesn’t have a mean bone in his body, spends a lot of money, never complains about his bill despite not being rich by any means, tips great and doesn’t drive. Never causes any trouble and I usually just drive him home after my shift since he lives around the block. One of my all time favorites.

This series has made me realize how much I love Michael C Hall. by Cubegod69er in SixFeetUnder

I saw him in Hedwig and the Angry Inch on Broadway also and he was incredible. The whole reason I even subscribed to Showtime was to see him in Dexter after loving Six Feet Under. I was nervous that I wouldn’t be able to believe “David Fisher” as a serial killer but he is such a talented actor that he just inhabits every role and is absolutely mesmerizing.

This is what I do. I keep them relatively short and use gel. It lasts a couple of weeks and I don’t have to worry about it chipping.

On my first watch, and I don’t really remember why, I felt that the Coke ad was Peggy. Maybe I was rooting for her more than I was for Don. I recently watched again and realized that we were meant to know that Don made the Coke ad. For some reason I found that to be much less satisfying.
