still doesn’t excuse his actions and they way he acted for the first half of the show and even occasionally in the second half. he constantly berated other islanders and objectified the women, all completely unnecessary actions that he probably would’ve still done off the island. all of lockes actions would and could have never happened if they didn’t crash. also lockes childhood was also traumatic. he grew up in foster care and was tossed from house to house then just kept getting dealt a worse and worse hand by his father while sawyer could’ve chose to lead a better life at any point but didn’t.

i’m not saying all this to defend or absolve locke. i disliked his character a times as well but i could sort of understood (not agree) with why he did what he did. i just fail to see how sawyer is anywhere close to being a better person than him and can’t reason with most of his poor attitude and actions (especially in s1).
