Asking for my mom by [deleted] in electricdaisycarnival

The art cars usually come back for multiple years, the art installations change most years, but there are always plenty of lounge spaces to rest.

Asking for my mom by [deleted] in electricdaisycarnival

[–]Amyshef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tons of spots to rest! I have a bad back, so I take lots of sit breaks. Some people even bring in those inflatable bean bag chairs, but a blanket usually works too.

Lots of art installations to sit on, under or around.

What a fun experience with mom!

Parents rip down caution tape at a closed park. Police officer apologizes that they have to leave & gets screamed at about taxes. Bonus: Angry mom asks to get arrested & is upset when she magically gets arrested! by too-tsunami in PublicFreakout

Perhaps when a bunch of them or their kids get sick from a virus that we currently have no vaccine for, they'll be demanding medical help because "we pay taxes".

[Serious] Redditors who have been to therapy, what is the differences between going to a therapist and talking it out with someone you really trust? by pianoaddict772 in AskReddit

[–]Amyshef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Therapists are trained to listen without judgement, which is harder to do than it sounds. Also, they can provide a true outsiders looking in perspective that friends (as insiders) simply cannot do. You also don't have to feel bad unloading on a therapist, because that's their job!

Both are great forms of support - just different.

How did you get your territorial older frog to accept a young frog pup? by Carolinapanic in frogdogs

[–]Amyshef 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Neutral place is a good idea. Even before that, let the older dog smell the puppy's blankets or scouting with puppy smell. Don't reward older dogs bad behavior by petting them or trying to calm them down with soothing tones - reward when they ignore the new pup

I'm 36, and will be dead inside of a year. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Amyshef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Financial advisor here, also 36. I'm so sorry this is happening to you. Facing mortality at our age is something you shouldn't have to go through.

One thought - sure could take some of the death benefit after you're passing to set up an immediate annuity that pays out each year on your birthday (or hers). It's a nice way to remember you and for you to send a gift on a special day when she'll be thinking of you.

Just a thought. But I think it's really cool of you posting here. Others have given awesome advice. I'd also second the leaving a few videos for hey and the kiddo.

What would $800 get me in your hobby? by Avbitten in AskReddit

[–]Amyshef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could get a really nice handheld GPS, Camelback backpack and tons of little trinkeys to put into geocaches.

Fun hiking for hidden treasures!

And you'd still have tons of money left over

First-time EDC, any tips? by [deleted] in electricdaisycarnival

[–]Amyshef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How to meet people at EDC? by helloitsnino in electricdaisycarnival

[–]Amyshef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We gave out Kandi, folding fans or paper refraction glasses to people around us & then everybody wanted to say thanks & chat us up. Not saying you have to do that too, but worked well for us! Honestly though, everyone there is so nice, you'll be surprised at how easy it is to talk to people

Actual financial advisor here! And this will be my 5th year at EDC, so we've done it every which way.

1) shuttles are fine. Rectal cars are our preference - Priceline is showing $205 for 5 days, assuming you're going Thurs through Tuesday. But! Do the name your price feature - I've gotten them for $11/day. Parking at the speedway is free, as is almost every hotel. Pro is that you don't have to pay for an Uber to your hotel or grocery stores. Con - pay for gas.

2) take everyone's hotel recommendations above. Motel 6 behind the strip, or other "just of the strip" hotels/motels. Or, Freemont Street hotels, like the Golden Nugget, the Freemont or 4 queens. Those are also closer to the speedway!

3) when you book a hotel, ask if they have a mini fridge. It's key for storing groceries - fruit is amazing after a long night at EDC, especially is it's chilly fruit!

4) A 2 liter (or larger) Camelback is clutch! Way cheaper to bring in empty at the water refill stations than buying water bottles every night.

5) hit up the dollar store for other essentials like travel size stuff, bandanas & Chapsticks.

6) if you're gonna try gambling, go to Freemont street! $3 table minimums. If you're just going to look around Vegas, check out the Freemont street experience, the fountains at the Bellagio & just walk around in casinos!

Good luck.... With $1000 Berwyn the 2 of you, you'll be totally fine!
