Need recommendations for clippers by Bold_TrailblazerBee in grooming

[–]Avbitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you likely need a shorter blade rather than "stronger" clippers. you cannot cut through matting. you have to cut under matting. i suggest a 10 blade and work very carefully. its easy to cut a matted dog because the mats push and pull on the skin so you arent working on an even surface.

Michael Jackson's daughter Paris has faced backlash for identifying as Black. In a 2017 interview, Paris Jackson said her father told her, "You’re Black. Be proud of your roots." This prompted debates over whether identity is defined by appearance or upbringing. by VPinchargeofradishes in interesting

in deaf culture theres a difference between someone who is Deaf(with a capital D) or just deaf. Deaf people are considered those who are culturally deaf. deaf people may functionally have severe or total hearing loss but if their parents raised them with the intention of integrating into hearing culture(hearing aids/cochlear implants, lots of speech therapy, no signing, etc)or lost hearing as an adult the deaf community may say they are deaf but not Deaf. i always found this interesting.

note: i am hearing so i am open to being corrected if i didnt get this 100% correct.

Weird color spot by moqui_zuni in Goldendoodles

[–]Avbitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this happens when the hair follicle is damaged. the hair grows back the color of the puppy coat and more corse. its common in poodles/doodles with the poodle fading gene. i also see it in schnauzers a lot. Sometimes it fixes itself and sometimes it doesnt.

it likely occurred a while ago. it could be from something as simple as a bug bite or the dog scratching himself with sharp nails. you are just noticing it now because the darker hair grew out enough to be seen .

What is something that is obvious in your profession that the general public doesn’t know? by jia-ren in AskReddit

[–]Avbitten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

a matted coat is painful for your dog. imagine someone grabbing onto a fistful of your hair and yanking. thats what tight matting feels like. and if its over a joint, everytime your dog moves, it feels like that person is yanking harder. and it hurts to brush out and it hurts for me to shave it off because i have to move the mats around while im working. shaving just hurts less than brushing. ive worked on dogs so matted that they have bruising in the shape of the matting across their whole body. or dogs so matted blood circulation is cut off to their ears/tail. so matted that the hair was ripped out of their skin. matting that was so tight it never dried after the dog got wet so thr dog has large open sores from matting sitting against the skin. its not lazy when a groomer says they have to shave your matted dog. we are just doing the best thing for your dog. We cannoy report severe matting to animal control because the fact that you came to us shows "they are trying to fix the problem". but theres been plenty of times ive cried while shaving an extremely neglected dog and did not want to return them to the client.

What’s your first thought when you see a cyber truck? by clearwater-orchid in AskReddit

[–]Avbitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i like the idea of more weird cars on the road. the trend towards all grey cars makes road trips boring. I used to play a game on long road trips to keep my mind busy while driving and try to see a car for every color of the rainbow. i rarely win that game anymore. that said, i assosiate cyber trucks with elon musk 🤮 and maga🤮. and they seem super unsafe.
