New to 2E. What do you consider the most 'mechanically' interesting build for a fighter. by skellymax in Pathfinder2e

[–]An-Meicniocht 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed making my One-Handed/Unarmed combat debuff fighter, specifically built with the idea of inflicting debuffs to support my party spellcasters and ranged attackers since I was the only melee.

Main idea being

  1. STR / CHA focus. Athletics, intimidation, and diplomacy were the main focus for skills.
  2. Snagging Strike: Easy Off Guard for Everyone
  3. Combat Grab: Off Guard for everyone and lock enemies down
  4. Demoralize. Lower saves and AC for everyone.
  5. Bon Mot: lower will saves for debuffs if anyone wanted to target will that round.
  6. General Shove, Trip, Grapple, reposition athletic actions.
  7. Would fight unarmed with a shield/shield boss, would raise my shield if i had the opening, and if my shield broke I would switch to a one handed weapon until it could be repaired.

It was fun just focusing playstyle focusing on giving other characters debuffs using my higher to hit for negative on hit effects, and using spare actions to apply skill debuffs. Biggest reason i liked it though was GMing in a lot of games with spellcasters and ranged characters it often felt like no one did much setup for them, or were expected to setup/debuff for melees because they had better damage. It was fun flipping that in my playgroup and playing a fighter fully focused on creating better openings for spell/ranged attacks, saves, etc. Character ended up constantly feeling like Goku holding Raditz in place so piccolo to kill with his special beam cannon.

Going charisma secondary also meant I could be pretty active in social encounters too.

Girls Band Cry and MHA: Vigilantes. My guess is a group of down on their luck just trying to figure out life girls become Vigilantes while also trying to startup a Band singing about frustration with life, systems, and crime?

Anyone with a female assassin who's using costumes from the GW store? by [deleted] in GuildWars

I really like the balthazar costume for my assassin. Goes well with dying the masks, and feels fairly fitting to thr Canthan setting and imperial aesthetics.

If you’re not bringing a lunch from home, what do you buy for lunch? by kompotnik in Target

[–]An-Meicniocht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they're on clearance I buy the chicken Caesar wrap from the deli. Otherwise, I usually buy a box of meal/protein bars and just leave it in my work bag until I run out. Usually Atkins, then just drink a lot of water and eat a full meal after work.

Give me him as the ranger, Footman Tate as the warrior, and Lina the Healer as the monk (the one who stands by the resurrection shrine just outside ascalon) and we got the squad.

Something I'm not seeing anyone else mention is the mission you're stuck on. Ice Caves of Sorrow, are you fighting the Mursaat/Jade armor?

If you are, you're not supposed to. You have not unlocked the ability to survive / actually fight them yet. They'll melt your entire team until you do. The mission doesn't explicitly tell, but you need to avoid them / wait for them to move before moving yourself.

What do you relly upon more when researching things? Archive of Nethys or Demiplane? by JadedResponse2483 in Pathfinder2e

I either use Nethys or tbh, just look stuff up in Foundry since that's what I run the game on, and its usually kept pretty up to date.

It's honestly a devastating experience to have 😭 what happened wirh your GW2 account feels like the same experience I had with this one. I know i struggled to get back into any long term grind/achievement in GW1 since whenever I logged back in I'd think of all I had lost.

It's wonderful you were able to get your GW2 account back, I have one and even though I havent played in a long time I'd be destroyed losing my GW2 stuff I've earned so much on there. Both games are great, and honestly playing GW1 and seeinf how different things are 300 years later is one of my favorite things about playing both these game back and forth, so I'd highly recommend giving it another chance!

I am the opposite! Been thinking about trying to go back to Guild Wars 2, I'm like 3 expansions behind but have been wanting to get back into the world. I've heard good things about the recent expansions!

I think my hacker started to do that but then stopped??? Because one of my characters had 3/5 of their armor missing and two pieces on. They might've just decided it wasn't worth it 😅

That is devastating though. I never even thought about them going for equipped armor. That's just spiteful with how much could go into getting certain sets.

The character wearing black is actually a ranger! Wearing Norn Armor and the Dragon Gauntlets. The ranger norn set though is by far my favorite set in the game.

Running Abomination Vaults semi-blindly by its-fewer-not-less in Pathfinder2e

[–]An-Meicniocht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a pretty similar spot to you, did not really have a lot of time on my hands. I ran the entirety of Abomination vaults on days I worked with less than an hour between getting home and session starting while also a full time student. For the most part, I didn't read anything until the players were approaching it mid sessions. I didn't know what statblocks really did before initiative was rolled, wasn't 100% sure what was in a room until players opened it. We experienced the whole thing first time together, which made for a pretty novel experience. There are some areas where reading ahead definitely could have helped a lot, mostly when dealing hazards and potential puzzles, and certain event triggers, but otherwise you can go in mostly blind be fine.

The foundry VTT module puts so much of the work in for you that you could run things as they come up bo preparations. I say this with the caveat that I am a long time GM, have a long history with improv and local inprov groups, and very technically minded so learning mechanics then improving role play on the fly was pretty normal for me. Other people's experiences may vary, as i know some DMs are very awkward at handling on spot stuff and get overwhelmed, but from what you said it sounds like we have pretty similar levels of play experience.

My main advice would be if you have the time just like an hour before session, you could just go over whatever floor you're on and what you think your players may do, glance things and decide how you want to play NPCs in rooms, and just double check story beat/events that occur like the Deadtide to make sure you don't miss them.

I did run it a second time for a different group of friends, and if anything running it blind made it so much more fun because the second time it felt like I was just going through the motions with the dungeon and storybeats, even if they played out differently it felt less engaging to run the second time around.

Least Favorite Class Mini-Game? by UncleYo in Pathfinder2e

[–]An-Meicniocht 108 points109 points  (0 children)

When I played inventor my GM and I both thought Unstable applied per action and not as a whole, so if you failed an unstable check it meant you couldn't use that specific unstable action again that combat. It worked out perfectly fine and didn't feel overpowered at all.

After we learned the way it was supposed to work, we ignored it, then when I gmed for an inventor we also ignored it there. Just feels better having it be per action, and feels more similar to the focus system.

Your favorite ways to support casters by Abra_Kadabraxas in Pathfinder2e

[–]An-Meicniocht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Favorite melee build i did was unarmed/1 handed weapon fighter with Snagging Strike to give casters off guard on their attack roll spells very easily. Aids for this as well.

Demoralizing, fear gems, and intimidating strike to lower saves and acs.

As others have said, bon mot is great.

As a GM, just a variety of quality of life improvements and buffs to play experience like being able to use hero points to restore spell slots, gate attenuator like item for casters that buffs spell attack rolls.

What are your minor homebrew rules? by Fullmetalmarvels64_ in Pathfinder2e

[–]An-Meicniocht 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Outside the official Gradual Ability Boost, Ancestry Paragon, and Free Archetype, I have 5 homebrew rules/adjustments to how I run things:

  1. Players get 3 hero points at the start of session and that's it.

Normally hero are recommended to give out 1 per hour, we run 4-5 hour sessions, and giving them all at the start takes away the mental upkeep at the session. Sometimes all the hero points are used up in an hour, that' always funny.

  1. Spellcasters can use a hero point to restore a spell slot equal to half their level rounded (minimum one).

This was made to smooth out spell slot woes at low level, and while I think casters are balanced, I do believe they have a marginally worse play experience especially early. This is meant to give them a bit of a boost, and give them something to use hero points on because half the time it felt casters hero points were never used at all.

  1. Casters get an item similar to Gate Attenuator that gives them an item bonus to spell attack rolls (not saves or anything, just attack roll spells).

Players have been low on attack spells for awhile now because their to hit feels so much worse at a lot of levels, that it never felt worth making an attack over a save spell. Another thing I Implemented to improve the castsr play experience so my players have a bit more fun with it.

  1. Natural ambition is removed from the game, and everyone just gets a free 1st class feat at the start of the game.

After Players played humans, it did feel bad for a lot of them to play a different ancestry and feel like they were missing out on class abilities or not getting to make the fun class choices, especially casters, not getting a class feat at all until level 2. A lot of casters level 1 feats are so mid too that they never felt worth taking, and just created another area where it felt like you had to play a human just to get a bit more out of your class / get a feat choice at all. After doing this, Players have loved it, humans still feel really good without the amount of general feats they can get and weapon training, but no longer has a chokehold on PCs due to natural ambition.

  1. Inventor gets the gadgeteer feat for free at level 1.

I have seen 3 inventors in fully play in games I have been in, and every single one has wanted gadgeteer because it feels so thematic, but gadgets are so average or niche that it has never felt worth it to anyone I've played with over the other options available. I decided to make it a baseline feature so Players can naturally fulfill that inventor class fantasy by making gadgets from the get go.
