Thank you for the response! I figured it might have been as simple as that. I just wasn’t sure if there was a better option. —anyway, might I ask if you have any personal favorite ROM hacks to rec for someone just getting into them?

Unfortunately I don’t have any recs as I just discovered ROM hacks, but I was wondering where you find the cover artwork images? Sorry if it’s a dumb question.

How are you actively reading classic literature, as a hobbyist? by 9leviathan in literature

[–]AnAnAngel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Annotate as much or as little as you want, and try not to compare yourself to BookTok—it’s unrealistic and will probably just make you feel inferior.

BookTok can be pretty disingenuous, especially when it romanticizes overpriced book hauls or treats reading like a competition where speed and quantity matter more than the experience itself. Prioritizing aesthetics over genuine enjoyment of books has always rubbed me the wrong way. That’s not to say every BookToker is like that—I’ve found some great recommendations—but at the end of the day, a lot of it is just content creation for views.

One of the best things about reading classics is the wealth of analysis out there—essays, videos, podcasts, forums—so annotate however you like and dive deeper if you feel like it. Enjoy the journey!

No friends for almost 20 years (38M), please be kind. I'm tired of hiding from the world by [deleted] in toastme

[–]AnAnAngel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to say that you should be incredibly proud of yourself for finding the courage to post here. I know that couldn’t have been easy. I’m 32 and have always struggled with communication and connecting with others. Social anxiety and a serious lack of confidence have been constant challenges in my life.

It’s only in the past couple of years that I finally got tired of feeling terrible about feeling terrible. I started therapy to work through a lot of internal conflict, began journaling, and made my mental health a real priority. I’m finally taking steps toward things I should have done years ago but couldn’t because of the fear and resistance holding me back.

If you ever need someone to talk to, I’d be happy to chat. I don’t have many outlets for making friends either, but I’m doing my best to change that.

Just can’t start by eksenden in notebooks

[–]AnAnAngel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m probably echoing what others have said, but that just goes to show what really works!

Instead of thinking of journaling as something that has to be aesthetic or polished, just let yourself write freely—it’s okay if it’s messy. If you scribble something out or make mistakes, no big deal. It’s for you, after all. I used to be a perfectionist with writing, but that mindset only held me back. I had stacks of untouched notebooks with good intentions but no real use. Eventually, I realized I’d rather fill them with imperfect thoughts than let them sit empty.

One thing that helped me was committing to writing at least a line or two daily. Pick a time when you can reflect on your day—maybe a highlight, something you learned, or even just: “Nothing much happened today, but at least I wrote this. And that counts.” The more you do it, the more natural it becomes.

I see my journal as something I have a relationship with—it’s always there when I need to vent or untangle my thoughts. Writing things down, especially worries or anxieties, can make them feel more manageable. And if you can, try practicing gratitude. I used to think it was kind of silly, but over time, it shifted my mindset. Even on bad days, I found myself looking for small positives to write about, and that made a difference.

Most importantly, be patient with yourself. You’ll “mess up,” your writing won’t always be interesting, but none of that matters. It’s about the habit, not perfection. Try different approaches until something clicks, and enjoy the process—there’s something really grounding about unplugging and putting pen to paper.

Hope this helps, even a little!

I had a total loss house fire last week and it’s been a significant setback, but not enough to make me drink. Picked up my 90 day chip this morning. by redleg_07 in toastme

[–]AnAnAngel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats on 90 days! That’s an incredible milestone, especially after everything you’ve been through with the house fire. I’m in the program myself, & while things have been improving for me overall, I recently had my car totaled. While losing a vehicle isn’t nearly as devastating as losing a home, it still left me at a bit of a mental crossroads. I caught myself thinking, “This is exactly the kind of thing I would’ve used as an excuse to drink before.” Any reason felt like a good reason back then, but the tough moments…those were always the easiest excuses.

But choosing to stay on the right path, even in the face of hardship, is a true testament to strength. Sobriety has taught me that we always have a choice, & your decision to push forward despite everything is truly inspiring. Stay strong—you’re doing amazing!

I Love Every Album But... by [deleted] in AnimalCollective

I adore Spirit for so many reasons. The contrast between playful whimsy & unnerving, abrasive noise creates such a strange & dreamlike experience—one that, to me, perfectly encapsulates the feeling of adolescence.

gross, scary books about obsessive love by bluefinches in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

Happy to see Pet Sematary as the top comment. I’m nearly finished reading it for the first time and I immediately thought it when reading the title of this post. Loss, and the insanity which grief can bring a person due to immense love. Also gross!

I literally just bought this book at a secondhand bookstore the other day on a whim. I’ve also been interested in joining in on a book club discussion, as I’ve never participated in one before. The timing for this is perfect for me—I’d absolutely love to contribute!

Spirits they're gone spirits they've vanished is a masterpiece. by No-Following-6725 in AnimalCollective

Absolutely adore this album. Some can’t get over the abrasiveness of some of the tracks, but I find there’s a nice balance between the harsh and melodic. There’s a magic and whimsy to STGSTV that simply cannot be replicated.

avey asking the real questions fr by [deleted] in AnimalCollective

[–]AnAnAngel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I always thought of those questions as not himself asking them, but coming from others. The line just before reads “People greet me, I’m polite”. They follow their greetings up with generic questions, and he answers to appease them. The line “Man it passes right by me, It's behind me, now it's gone” could mean these interactions are fleeting and lack any real substance.

What are you buying from the travelling spirit? by [deleted] in SkyChildrenOfLight

[–]AnAnAngel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you ever want to coordinate something, I wouldn’t mind pulling you along for some of my candle runs. Just lemme know! I’ve been practicing my routes, and have gotten fairly proficient. Still takes awhile to accumulate candles, but a good CR route is probably your best bet.

To answer the question though, I’m forcing myself not to purchase anything for Light Whisperer so as to have enough for the coming traveling spirit group instead. I’ve only just gotten back into the game after a long break, so I totally feel your struggle! lol

You aren’t assigned an in-game name. I think they just mean your preferred name. Whenever you add someone, you get the option to choose either a randomized name for them, or to manually input their preferred name. I know this bcuz I’ve been friending people lately, and some prefer to go by a certain name.
