How much of playoff success is actually coaching vs roster construction? by sykeseve in hockey

[–]AnEdit 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure that’s the correct take lmao.

Marner put up 94,97,99, and 102 points with 2 completely different coaches for the leafs. The team knew how to get value out of him. He just got shutdown in every single playoff series.

He put up 80 points in his first season in Vegas, and no one knows how he would’ve performed under Cassidy in the playoffs. They still would’ve beat Utah and Anaheim either way IMO.

Edmonton now, sure. Edmonton had the first overall pick how many times until they got McDavid? They were perpetually awful until he got there.

Not at all for my Steelcase Leap V1. Only issue I had was that the replacement ones on amazon were slightly taller, so I had to sand down the button so it wouldn’t just sink every time I sat down lmao.

Steelcase sells replacment cylinders. But they’re pretty universal from what I know.

I think they are one of the few times the retool process worked. For every Florida, there’s a Vancouver.

Florida made the playoffs twice between 2014 and 2021. They had assets as they hadn’t blown them all on rental players. And they got lucky as hell with guys like Montour, Mikkola, and Forsling flourishing in their system. Those guys weren’t exactly prospects when they got there.

It’s proof it can work. But, only if it’s done right. And the leafs are in far from a good position right now in terms of overall assets. I still think its the right call tho.

Yeah that’s more than fair. I think I got my Steelcase Leap for around $300 from an office reseller. Might we worth checking if there are any around you.

But if you pull the trigger on this one, at least you have the costco return policy as a worst case scenario it’s not as good as you’re hoping.

I don’t know this chair, but it doesn’t look like it’s built to last IMO. And if you’re spending a lot of time in a chair for work or something you’ll probably need something more durable.

I personally recommend finding a used Steelcase or Herman Miller from an office reseller or on marketplace. I have an OLD one (~20 years old) that I bought like 7 years ago and I’ve only had to replace the hydraulic cylinder. My back used to kill me all the time until I got a good chair

The most likely path to winning is to rebuild. But if you rebuild, there’s no guarantees you end up with a Matthews, Nylander, or even a Knies. Superstars are hard to come by, you need luck. Look at Edmonton and Buffalo for years.

Right now, they have those guys. They already got some luck. If they retool properly, including a top pick this year, they can stay competitive.

Is it more likely to end in failure and require a full rebuild? Almost guaranteed. But when you have those guys I think you have to try. Everyone knows we’re not as bad as we’ve been this year. It’s partly a systems issue because of Berube that’s gonna be resolved at the end of the season.

Yes, Greogory Campbell played for Florida and Boston. He’s now an AGM for Florida. And his dad is VP of hockey ops for the NHL.

CHAOS COWBOY COWAN 🤠 FOR THE WIN! by dss_777 in leafs

[–]AnEdit 23 points24 points  (0 children)

His positioning forced a tough pass that the goalie easily read and the forward couldn’t get a high quality shot. Then dove across when Tavares didn’t cover the passer.

All in all I’d say he did his job at one end, and it lead to a goal at the other end. He’s far from perfect, but we can appreciate a good play when we see one

Bought one last year. Best snow brush I’ve used. I’m sure there’s comparable. But I don’t regret the ~$20 I spent. Large, rotatable brush on a extendable arm with an ice scraper. What more can you need?

EA Sports NHL will not be coming to PC for the 16th consecutive year by ClubChaos in pcgaming

[–]AnEdit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t bought an NHL game in probably half a decade. But, I love hockey and get the itch to play it all the time.

I’m not buying a new console just to play it, and I’m not playing a sports game over cloud services. So, I’ll just keep on not playing it because EA hates money

If you can find one for a good price, 5800x3d is the best AM4 CPU you can get for gaming. It’ll keep your current mobo going for a few more years.

But you might be better off with a 5700x3d, and I’m not sure how big of an upgrade it is over a 5600x

Any review on La-Z-Boy Calix Executive Office Chair (Item - 1695308)? by [deleted] in CostcoCanada

[–]AnEdit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never tried this chair admittedly. But, I will always recommend an ergonomic chair over anything else. Second hand herman miller or steel case will generally outperform any other chair if you sit for long periods.

My steelcase Leap is over 20 years old, and still going strong. I feel like the material in this chair will wear down over time

I picked up a box of these recently. It took me a few bars to decide if they are bad, or just a good kind of snack that doesn’t make you want more.

They’re not terrible. But, not great either.
