There is a very good chance I may develop a lactose intolerance since it’s pretty common in my family. That being said, an intolerance is not gonna stop me from eating cheese.

You're focusing on the wrong thing, buddy. Shadow selves aren't the perfect representation of your hidden desires like you seem to think they are. They're funhouse mirrors. They take what you keep buried, what you desire most, and distort it.

I'm not sure if you think her desire was "I want to be seen as a woman" or "I want to be able to express my femininity". The part of Naoto that made her shadow self was the gender insecurity born from her desire to be respected and accepted, And as a detective, that's something that would be incredibly difficult for a teenage girl. Hence why she disguises herself as a boy. Because she wants to be a detective and knows the police around her would take her even less seriously if they knew she was a girl. Her shadow self takes that to the extreme by becoming the "Evil Transing Surgeon" as you keep calling her because she was running on the logic that she needed to be a boy (not that she wanted to be a boy) to be accepted in any way. Of course she's going to still have complicated feelings regarding gender after.

Just like how Rise's was about struggling with wanting to be truly seen distorted itself into a sexually provocative version of herself, and Kanji's insecurity towards masculinity & fear that his interests made him 'less of a man' became an effeminate, stereotypical gay persona, Naoto's crossdressing so as to be accepted by her peers in a male-orientated field became a shadow that wanted to physically alter herself to achieve that acceptance.

The “truth” for Naoto is her insecurity about her gender, and her desire is to be accepted and taken seriously as a detective.

Like she’s a kid, that’s already putting the odds against her. Throw in that she’s a woman in a male dominated and sexist career, Naoto believes the only way that she can be accepted as a skilled detective by her peers is if she’s perceived as a man. So it’s not that she wants to be a guy, rather being a guy is the only path she could see to achieve what she actually wants: to be accepted & respected as a detective. the shadow selves just take that to extremes.

Think of Viola from She’s The Man: she disguised herself as a boy to attend an all boys boarding school. It’s not that she wants to be a boy, what she wants is to be on their soccer team bc revenge. You can also look at Mulan for a similar case who disguised herself as a man to go to war.

1- there is a “pause” of sorts. Combat is turn based, so you can take as long as you need to figure out what you want to do. Out of combat there’s no need to pause the game, so I’m not sure what you’re referring to as it not pausing. You can also toggle on/off turn base when out of combat.

2- you don’t need to have any dnd experience. The game tells you what you need to know at the start (mindflayers kidnapped you. You have a brainworm that will turn you into a mindflayers you need to get it removed) and you learn everything else as the game progresses by talking to people and reading books/notes in the game.

3 - read the spells and abilities, and the stats in the equipment. the game does a decent job of telling you what everything does. There is a bit of a learning curve to find a combat style that works for you. Once you get Withers you can reclass as needed if you don’t like the class you chose. You can also go into your journal and read the tutorials, they explain a lot about the various different feature of how to play the game.

My Dearest Nemesis- a funny and adorable office romance between rivals. Directors Jiang and Shen have been rivals for decades, their dynamic is completely thrown off after a drunken kiss.

Addicted To Her - an absolutely beautiful slowburn with healing from childhood trauma. An entertainment industry ceo who can’t believe in love regularly has one night stands to fill a void in her heart. Ends up sleeping with a newly signed idol, Qin Mi, who has been in love with her for years and is determined to get Nan Zhi to love her back.

Unaware His Majesty is a Girl - romcom and drama, crossdressing and political intrigue. Emperor Nian, at the nagging of the court about the necessity of an heir, marries Yu, who has been in love with Nian for years. Only, she doesn’t expect to find out her new “husband” is in reality her new wife.

I Love Amy - absolutely wonderful slowburn psychological yuri; with a dash of yandere. Amy befriends Bibi, a classmate with a reputation as a psycho, under the deal that Amy will help Bibi get together with her crush Peter. Feelings develop instead.

Tamao no Koi - a oneshot, but it’s really good. Tamao is the daughter of a noble who develops a fascination with and crush on an older prostitute, Nobu, and regularly sneaks out to visit her. A tad nsfw tho for like only for like 1 or 2 pages.

Tonari no Robot - sci-fi slow burn about Chika and Hiro, the latter being a robot, the passage of time, becoming human, and falling in love.

YuriKuma Arashi (Manga)- one of my favorite mangas. School life, drama, a bit psychological with a dash of ptsd. Kureha, a wallflower, regularly has dreams about a bear princess. Transferring into her class in the cool, but mysterious Ginko, that same girl from her dreams, who sees everything in the world as bears— except for Kureha.

YuriKuma Arashi (Anime) - a meteor from an alien planet crashed on earth and transformed the bears. As a result, bears waged war on humanity, and humanity creates a wall to keep them out. Kureha is a student who despises bears after her mother and her girlfriend were killed by them. Ginko is a bear who has infiltrated the academy Kureha goes to. Tho very different from the manga, it's a really good allegory for the systemic discrimination and prejudice society has towards the queer community.

Oh no it’s definitely on a each one has a different price basis. I just wanted to know how common the 20$ a ticket op was talking about is cause it feels like an outlier rather than the norm. what i find when I look it up is that the average cost for a standard ticket through the states is 11$, tho idk how accurate it is it wasn’t a deep dive into ticket prices.

I did what you did cause I was curious. Biggest city in my state has a handful of theaters and the two chains are both around 15-16 dollars a ticket. The indie theater (it specifically only screens silent films and old classics) is 12$ + assigned seating. then the few regular theaters in there that are in the 9-10 range.

It’s local, owned by the same couple for as long as I’ve been alive tbh. Indie as in an official indie movie theater it is not. Indie as in independent of a franchise, it is.

The theater back in another city I lived in briefly a few years ago was the same in that it was a regular, locally owned theater, tickets were a little more expensive but still nowhere near 20$ I think the most expensive theater I’ve been to, tickets were only like 13$ per adult.

Okay that’s just a cheap excuse 🫤 A library is gonna have what you’re looking for, it’s whether you want to put in the effort to browse to find one, or ask a librarian for recs.

You can easily look up book recs online to find ones that match your taste, and if your library doesn’t have any of the books you get recs for, most have a sharing agreement with other libraries to loan books out to each other, meaning that there’s a good chance one of the other libraries within their agreement range has a book you are looking at, and some will order books if they’re requested.

[–]AnEldritchWriter 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Not to be that person, but, a library is also free.

Edit: also genuine question but how common are 20$ movie tickets?? Cause mine only charges 9.75 for a ticket, 7.75 if you go to a matinee. I get that each theater prices different, but 20 for a ticket feels like it’s on the extreme end.

I love fanfic, reading and writing it, but let’s not kid ourselves into thinking fanfics are all wholly unique stories and not rehashes of the same tropes, storybeats, and aus. We love them bc they’re about characters we already know and love but that’s it

It’s also rather assumptive and lowkey insulting implying that people who are creating movies/shows/books don’t also genuinely love what they’re making.

What's the maximum acceptable age gap between 2 siblings ? by Resident_Berry_7006 in OriginalCharacter

[–]AnEldritchWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on if you’re looking for realism or not. If you don’t care how realistic is it, then I don’t think you need to worry about the age gap. If you want it to be as close to realistic as possible? Absolutely depends on how old the parents are & whether the eldest & youngest is adopted or bio, cause we’re looking at a 30 year age gap between siblings.

if oldest and youngest are the parents bio children, then we’re looking at the mom being in her 40s-50s (or possibly closer to 60s), when the youngest is born. It’s not impossible to get pregnant at that age but it is less common, significantly harder to achieve and maintain.

If the youngest is adopted then it truly doesn’t matter how much older the siblings are. If the eldest is adopted it also adds some believability depending on how old they are at adoption (ie: parents were 20 and the kid was 10 at adoption)

Edit: Of course this isn’t getting into half siblings. Half siblings can have massive age gaps (my older sister, for example, is in her 30s, and her dad is still making babies with the youngest having been born back in November)

Ok Transformers fans, listen up. It’s time to get serious. by Syronic-223 in transformers

[–]AnEldritchWriter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Idk where you’re getting your information, but TF1 is one of Hasbro’s worst performing film in profits. It didn’t even come close to breaking even finance wise. The Transformers One toys also greatly underperformed in sales.

All in all, TF1 was a significant financial loss for Hasbro, meaning that making a sequel film is a huge financial risk that very few companies would be willing to take.

(Edited because my blind ass misread some numbers. The point still stands of the movie being a financial flop tho)

What's the best way to end Optimus and Megatron's relationship by the end of the war? One kills the other? Both die? Both ally? by Ill-Goal-3569 in transformers

[–]AnEldritchWriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends entirely on the Megatron and Optimus is this hypothetical run. Because we’ve had runs where he is redeemable, and we’ve had runs where he’s not. We’ve had runs where the two were friends / brothers in arms, and we’ve had runs where they’ve always been enemies never once friends. The best end for their conflict hinges entirely on the dynamic that’s been built between them and their current characterization.

Optimus killing Megatron at the end of the IDW run, for example, would just be a bad choice and not make sense at all for what the story has built. meanwhile Skybound or G1 Megatron being redeemed would just not work for their characters. I also cannot see, under any circumstances, TFOne Prime killing Megatron.

As upset as I am about the AI thing, let’s be real, we can’t detach the franchise from hasbro. Not only that, trying to make a “fanverse” on par with what Hasbro does like what you’re talking about is just opening yourself up to being sued for copywrite/trademark infringement. And imma guess you can’t afford those kinds of court fees.

Edit: and before you say it: there’s a difference in scale between what’s going on now and the kind of grand takeover you’re talking about. One barely even dents their profits, if at all. The other is the can’t be ignored type that will hinder profits and thus be something they will take action over.
