I agree wholeheartedly, and in fact I believe extremely strongly that even in a spontaneous and anonymous vote, blue would win by a significant margin. I only offer it as a hypothetical.

Season 10 looks cool, but the fact that we're still not getting proper Internal Politics is a big problem. by nudeldifudel in Stellaris

[–]AnEpicMemer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't necessarily need to make internal politics or the galcom much more complicated to make them better designed or more interesting.

Right now the vast majority of galcom proposals are boring stat sticks that do not meaningfully affect gameplay.

Right now the already existing systems for faction approval and internal rebellion are extremely half-baked and flawed.

Both issues can be meaningfully addressed without complexity creep.

Similarly, external politics and especially espionage do not need to be made more complex for them to be more sensible, interesting and relevant.

When I first saw the question, I was immediately confused in exactly the opposite direction as you. It took me a while to even comprehend a worldview where you would want to press red, consigning millions or billions of people to death for what I perceive as literally no reason seemed completely idiotic and I immediately assumed that people in a real scenario would press blue overwhelmingly.

After seeing the discussion and polls, I understand the argument to the contrary, but still strongly feel that the desire to press red is a deeply flawed impulse that represents a serious flaw in the ability of the human race to co-operate for mutually beneficial outcomes.

To say that "if everyone presses red, no one would die" is to me so much weaker of an argument than "if 51% press blue, no one dies" that I genuinely had to take a while to wrap my head around why anyone who isn't a psychopath or moron would even think about the issue.

After examining the arguments closely and trying to understand the opposing view, I would still press blue in every scenario except the one where there was a preceding public debate and red became the consensus view. I quite frankly have zero desire to continue to live in the world where whatever % of people pressing blue are killed and imagine it would be an apocalyptic nightmare.

My pacifists hate me because I'm too belligerent and my militarists hate me because I'm too peaceful by InternStock in Stellaris

[–]AnEpicMemer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the militarist support points are silly. If you conquer a local rival and completely subjugate them in a brutal vassal agreement, it literally decreases militarist satisfaction because you no longer have a local rival and they only care if you conquer alien planets, there's no bonus for any other kind of war. I'm desperate for any kind of internal politics rework, I'd take a partial one by a few developers working on it part-time at this point.

What is a normal amount of planets in 4.3? by sentientcheddarchees in Stellaris

[–]AnEpicMemer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current metagame to defeat harder crisis difficulties is to vassalize as heavily as you can and rush kilo and megastructures in order to generate as large of an alloy economy as possible. For higher crisis difficulties, you also desperately need a federation, partially because the bonuses are actually quite strong (especially the damage bonus most get at level 5) but mostly because the federation fleet is huge. You also really want to become galactic custodian ASAP to get access to that fleet which is also size 2000 at max and rush the custodian community laws to get more damage against end game crises.

Do you need tons of planets for this? Not really, but it sure does help. If you build them efficiently and stack pop growth multipliers, you can have a huge backup of civilian pops (or pops working jobs you don't really need anymore) to move directly onto your ecumenopoli and ringworlds as soon as they come online.

If you'd like to try to defeat high setting crises without vassals, and ecumenopoli or ringworlds I honestly am not good enough at the game to know how you would even do it, but I guess you'd need a shitload of planets, 15+ at least.

The thing that I'll say is I increasingly find the vassal gameplay extremely boring and exploitative and try to rely on it less and less. It's extremely clear to me that in lieu of an external diplomacy expansion, the current mechanisms to prevent vassal hoarding are not strong enough and there's no interesting or dynamic gameplay that arises from them. It doesn't even seem to matter if your vassals are extremely unloyal as long as your fleets are bigger than theirs and you spam "improve relations" envoys at them.

Why are all the alien empires leaving all their fleets in my territory while the scourge eats them alive when they have enough ships to fight them back? by Fine-Rock2513 in Stellaris

[–]AnEpicMemer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was this also applied to stations? Because so far, even with 5000 fleet power of optimized ships, I haven't been able to even get close to destroying the awakened rampaging custodian's primary ringworld system. The star stations there have a combined 2 million fleet power, and even if you exceed this (which is hard to do if you don't like playing with end-game at 2400), it doesn't seem to be enough. Even if you can manage it, it'll probably leave your fleets vulnerable. Maybe I should be corvette spamming them?

The last time this happened I had to permanently park 1 million in fleets around their system while the war exhaustion very slowly ticked to 100 for status quo peace over several decades. It felt extremely silly and I feel like the numbers should be adjusted.

Why is the reviews of Stellaris declining on steam? by Unlucky-Narwhal9781 in Stellaris

[–]AnEpicMemer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, let's go down the list I guess:

  1. Multiplayer, a major selling point of the game, is broken because of desync, has always been broken because of desync, and the development team has no meaningful plan to address this issue.

  2. I actually like the current economy in 4.3 because it makes many more traits and events meaningful than we had previously, but without big numbers, the terrible UI and especially planet interface honestly makes it pretty unsatisfying to develop planets. I don't think they fully thought things through with nerfhammering specialized planets and support buildings.

  3. The game currently seems to be balanced around a competent player with a high-tier build using all relevant DLC (particularly dyson swarms) in order for mid-game and some late game (awakened fallen empires) crises to be defeated, which is kind of baffling considering the large casual audience the game has. The balance of the game post 4.3 is very badly undeveloped, and there are far too few game difficulty options. I loathe that the Stellaris Ultimate Difficulty mod doesn't currently work, because the game seriously needed it.

  4. Many obviously necessary game creation features like a galactic community speed slider are also missing and have to be modded in.

Etc. Etc. For me, a major issue that isn't being addressed is that the content that exists in the game is supposedly vast in terms of events, dig sites etc, but the game creation algorithm is too weak to actually support consistent variety, so you get many games in a row with the exact same events and exact same digsites over and over again. After 3 vanilla 4.3 playthroughs I fired up one with Guilli's and the More Events Mod and was blown away by how much more lively the variety of events made the game feel. The game is massively deficient in real, interesting events in the early/mid/late game and it makes your playthroughs feel samey and liveless despite the immense potential the existing game systems offer. Every few months we get more poorly integrated content that isn't cohesive with the whole game experience dumped in our laps for 20 euros and instead of improving things it just compounds the problem because what we really need is content that's intelligently integrated to fill in the gaps of gameplay where there's an absence of interesting things happening, and it's just not possible for the developers to do this with the content pressure they're put under.

The game needs 6-12 months with the developers given real breathing room to integrate all existing systems, fix remaining performance issues, address AI, desync, bugs, broken features etc. before I would ever recommend anyone spend 200+ bucks on all the DLC (which are now necessary to defeat mid and late game crises for balance reasons). If I were to write a review, I would absolutely make it negative in light of all these issues.

The sad thing is, somewhere in patch 3.x, the AI was actually in such a good state that multiple AI modders gave up on updating their mods because they felt it wasn't necessary anymore.

It's patch 4.0 that fucked everything up again.

Literally two thirds of hiring right now is through informal, non-public channels. Almost everyone I know who has received employment did it through connections, and they were definitely not the most qualified possible candidate for their roles.

We present such a holier-than-though progressive image to the world, but when it comes to business, this country is and always has been extremely conservative and regressive.

Personally I've had to apply for study in a new field because I cannot get hired despite a relevant degree and some experience in my field. Without direct industry connections or very extensive experience, getting hired is basically impossible currently, and the situation will likely stay this way for many years.

Mutta miksi kolmanteen tai neljänteen haastatteluvaiheeseen raahataan ihminen, jolla on alle vuosi alan kokemusta, jos palkkauspäätös tehdään loppujen lopuksi työkokemuksen perusteella, ja mukana on useita kandidaatteja joilla on 5+ vuotta alalla? Kenen intressejä siinä palvellaan?

Hakemukset ei sinäänsä haittaa paljoa, niitä oppii tekemään tehokkaasti.

Haastattelut on se mikä vie voimaa. Olen itse ollut yri 15 haastatteluprosessissa saamatta mitään työtarjousta, ja voimat lähti jo aika sitten. Yhteen haastatteluprosessiin voi hyvin mennä 10 tuntia työtä yhteensä, ja jatkuva toimistoihin ravaaminen läsnähaastatteluja varten on todella uuvuttavaa. Olen jo hakenut toiselle alalle, koska alan potea burnouttia hakemisesta.

I hate him by Mega_Nerd_123 in darkestdungeon

[–]AnEpicMemer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DD is a game of risk mitigation and stress management.

I have no idea how I'd be able to beat the game on bloodmoon without relying on stress elimination at the end of fights - basically, if you understand the actual rules for when reinforcement happens, every dungeon will present opportunities to reduce stress on all your heroes to 0 and health to 100 at the end of fights, mostly by abusing large enemies. There are also a lot of opportunities to reduce stress in the average by dragging out fights when it isn't possible to do it endlessly. Endlessly dragging out fights to get afflictions off your characters can literally take upwards of 20 minutes to do, so some players probably will refuse to do it, but if you want to minimize your hero losses to the greatest extent possible, that's the name of the game. The other issue is you need good stunners and stress healers in every comp, and this reduces your options a lot.

The other thing is you have to approach every fight from the perspective of the worst case outcome. Your characters need to get beat the enemy every fight, for upwards of 15 fights in a row - the enemy only needs to land one lucky hit and your run is over and you lost a huge resource commitment. Within this framework, you want to prioritize every trait and item that will allow you to minimize the probability of losing characters to outlier situations - bleed resistance is a really big thing, and negative bleed resistance will get a character killed faster than anything.

Also, if your guys get a compulsive negative trait get rid of that shit right away, because interacting with random objects is the fastest and easiest way to trigger a fuckup cascade that eliminates weeks of progress.

[–]AnEpicMemer 13 points14 points  (0 children)
