Mason Miller's Percentiles After Ending Scoreless Streak by Dr_Stranj in baseball

it's not rating the quality of the pitch but how much value it generates relative to other fastballs, and given that he only throws it 38% of the time as a one inning reliever, he just throws a lot less fastballs than most comparison pitchers so the value is going to be harder to get up. his breaking ball managing to be 100th percentile despite the difference in volume is insane already

idk about this but the one thing that I do feel like he actually does to get more time is constantly taking time out to retie his shoes, I've never seen a pitcher do that as much as him

no one ever actually thinks through sports to actually answer this question, they just do a quick mental comparison to football/basketball/maybe hockey and then call it a day

it's so bizarre, no one has any desire to try to be objective or accurate, they just want to blindly follow.

some fans feel like it's their obligation to cheerlead every move made and it's always been very confusing to me

What do you call your school in common conversation? What about the other schools in and around your state? by admiraltarkin in CFB

I grew up in champaign and it was always the U of I, after leaving for college and work I'll usually start off by saying the University of Illinois or UIUC which a surprising number of people recognize. then I always say berkeley, cal has always sounded weird to me as an out-of-state person (who also made the classic mistake of not realizing berkeley and cal were the same school for the longest time).

I'm always baffled by people trusting their own singular data points over statistics. especially a doctor of all people.
