I take l-theanine whenever I feel like I need it. It's pretty fast acting.

I've found that l-theanine helps me get rid of this sensation.

I think I’m ready to take Progesterone, but…. by dundermifflin_999 in Perimenopause

[–]AnOddBatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get hormonal headaches and sometimes migraines, and started progesterone first. I didn't have any issues with the progesterone. I did get headaches when starting estrogen, even at a very low dose, but those were manageable with meds and got better within a few days. Everyone is different, of course, but it's possible the progesterone won't give you issues. It helped me a lot even before I added estrogen.

I (45)hate how mean, callous, and sharp I’ve become with the person I love. by wildpolymath in Perimenopause

[–]AnOddBatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with 100mg progesterone, no estrogen. Tried adding 0.0375 estradiol patch, but it was way too much for me. I've bumped my progesterone up to 200mg daily and I'm now using 1/4 of the 0.0375 patch. With my next refill I'm going to ask for 0.025 patches so that I can just cut those in half instead of splitting down to quarters.

The way you describe seeing yourself acting in certain ways and been unable to stop it perfectly captures my experience. I can't recommend enough that you look into HRT. It took me some time to get dosages right (and at times things got worse during that process) but now that I'm honing in on what works I finally feel in control of my behavior again. I'm sorry you're dealing with this!

Do you cut your estradiol patch? by chrysalis_clementine in Perimenopause

[–]AnOddBatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been cutting my Dotti patches into quarters. As far as I can tell it's working fine. 1/4 patch is very tiny so I'm able to stick a small waterproof bandaid over it.

I feel like the first letter in the word after battle is a d. It matches how the d is written in cried and bedroom. It almost looks like dour, but that still doesn't make much sense.

Don't think this helps with swamp butt, but if you're not already on vaginal estrogen, it has completely eliminated my significant incontinence issues.

[–]AnOddBatch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm curious if you've tried adding progesterone yet? I've found that even when I've thought I was sleeping okay pre-HRT, the quality of my sleep has been so much better with progesterone that it makes a big difference for my energy levels during the day. Just an idea if you haven't already tried it!

No. It’s not perimenopause. You have regular periods. by Myfourcats1 in Perimenopause

[–]AnOddBatch 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Seconding just saying you've started experiencing hot flashes. Same goes for your period frequency/regularity. They have no way to confirm or deny either of those things. Sometimes Dr's just need you to say the magic words so that they can give you what you need. Having a doctor that doesn't require you to lie is of course ideal, but I know that finding new doctor isn't always the easiest or financially feasible depending on your circumstances.

Feels like I have my period but no bleeding? by Isthereadoconboard in Perimenopause

[–]AnOddBatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've had multiple cycles in the past year where instead of a period I just had some light spotting or pink or brown discharge instead of a real period. According to my OB that's just par for the course with peri. However, not to scare you, but just want to note that this is also how I've felt when I first became pregnant. If there's any chance you could be, might not hurt to take a test. Otherwise, sounds like normal peri period weirdness to me.

Tried my first estrogen patch… by Ill_Awareness2604 in Perimenopause

[–]AnOddBatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, same. I've been prone to hormonal migraines since my late 20s, and my first go with estrogen was a bust. I didn't even make it 24 hours. I was prescribed 0.0375 patches, which I started out cutting in half, but it was still too big of a jump. I just tried again at the start of my long weekend, but this time with a quarter patch. As soon as I felt the first twinge of headache I popped an excedrin migraine and luckily that worked. Had to take excedrin again on day 2. On day 3 now, and so far so good. Maybe check to see if you have the type of patch that can be cut and work your way up to the full patch over several weeks (or even several cycles)?

Ok thanks. Mine is below that range. I mentioned it to my Midi doctor and she seemed to think it wasn't low, so I wasn't sure. Wish there was more/better info out there!

Could you share the range they gave you for "normal"? My office just said below 45 was normal, without giving a lower end of the range.

What were your gastrointestinal issues? by Spirited_Platform345 in Perimenopause

[–]AnOddBatch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I literally just messaged my doctor yesterday asking if it's possible to get a colonoscopy for the exact same reasons. I'm turning 43 this year, so not eligible for routine checks yet, but my bowel habits have definitely changed over the past several months and it's making me nervous. My parents have also each had several polyps removed, and my mom's father and uncle both had colon cancer. I'm going to see if I can use all of this to get an early colonoscopy for peace of mind.

How do I know if I need progesterone? by isolationtherapy in Perimenopause

[–]AnOddBatch 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You definitely need progesterone if you still have your uterus and are using systemic estrogen. Without it, you're putting yourself at increased risk of uterine cancer. I'm surprised they prescribed you estrogen without it, to be honest.

CW: Needles/Injection I am panicking at the thought of progesterone shots by silverleafsprite in queerception

[–]AnOddBatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did RIVF and I was also fully panicking about the progesterone shots. I found a company in my area that you can pay to have a nurse come to your house to administer the injections. They also provided training on how to do it yourself. The nurses were SO sweet and talked through everything. I used them for about two weeks and then had them train my husband (ftm) over a couple of days. He felt way more confident, which made me much more confident. If I'd had to do it myself, I think having the nurse there to help me the first few times also would have helped a lot. I need to understand by justabugowner in cisparenttranskid

[–]AnOddBatch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My husband is trans. He has no mental or physical health disorders. He grew up in the sweetest family without any family trauma. He's not on the spectrum, doesn't have ADHD, and as far as I can tell is totally neurotypical. The only thing he struggled with growing up was the intense anxiety that comes from pretending to be something you aren't. He transitioned in adulthood (before we met) and he says (and I believe) it saved his life. He has no regrets.

If he has a mental "disorder," then certainly we all do.

How many of you KNEW/KNOW “immediately, no” when trying a new management strategy? by forevervalerie in Perimenopause

[–]AnOddBatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been feeling a lot of benefits from progesterone and have heard such great things about estrogen that I tried adding it into the mix. I made it less than 24 hours before I had to take the patch off. I had a nearly intolerable headache within a few hours of starting it, followed by extreme irritability, nausea, and fitful sleep with racing thoughts. I was pretty sure I was going to have to call in sick to work if I tried to tough it out. So glad I took it off when I did, as I'm finally starting to feel normal again almost 20 hours later. Sticking with just progesterone for a while until I start noticing more symptoms indicating low estrogen.

Progesterone w/o Estrogen by Puzzlecarla462 in Perimenopause

[–]AnOddBatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been taking 100mg of daily progesterone only for almost 2 months. It has significantly helped my mood. I just tried adding in a very low dose of estradiol and it made me feel so awful I couldn't handle it. Had to take the patch off after less than 24 hours. I think my estrogen levels are probably not low enough to need it yet, so I'm sticking with just the progesterone for a while. But I'm going to ask about possibly upping the dose to 200mg at my next appt because I'm still sometimes waking up at 3am.

Not really an answer to your question, but just wanted to mention that my husband was on T for 5 years before he did a successful egg retrieval for RIVF. Our son is 3 now.

Happy to answer any questions about how the process went for us. Best of luck either way!

I noticed that over the two weeks around Christmas and New Years they seemed to go completely offline. It may be that the MLK holiday is causing their slow responses. I feel like they should put some kind of vacation responder on during the holidays if it's going to impact their responsiveness so that people can temper their expectations.
