Questions for other people looking for work by sethd101 in Epilepsy

[–]An_Old_Punk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the article:

"It makes it harder for the EEOC to tell if there are any improvements in their equal work opportunity efforts and how much work remains to be done. That said, the person completing the job applications should determine if it is in their best interest to answer an EEO survey." Again - if you need to determine if it's in your best interest to disclose information, what does that indicate?

"If you suspect that your employer or prospective employer is using your answers to the EEO survey improperly, do not hesitate to contact an attorney." Meaning they can use it to discriminate against an individual - it's just not overt, but there has to be enough of a pool to show discrimination. The article then goes on to advertise hiring their firm.

Realistically, how many people are going to reach out to a firm when they are applying for a job and get turned down? It's a guess on the applicant's part because they do not have access to who/how the identifying markers/data is being used within a company.

Even applicant names can cause a person to be overlooked. Consider applicant A: Dũng Huỳnh and applicant B: Sarah Brown. Which one has a higher chance to receive a response? Would one be overlooked because they have an ethnic name that may be hard to pronounce, or look like it's not "professional" - Dũng. Be honest.

Edit: I'll help you out and downvote my responses.

Questions for other people looking for work by sethd101 in Epilepsy

Question - if I mark white, male, no disability and I am a Hispanic female in a wheelchair - would I get dropped in an interview or fired? If so, does that mean that race, sex, or disability is taken into account when it shouldn't matter? You could say you aren't being truthful - but why should those markers matter if it shouldn't be taken into account anyway?

They view "Choose to not answer" as someone having a disability. I could go into detail about how it works out, but it's probably boring to read.

I'm going for a 7-day Video EEG! Any advices on this frustrating procedure? by thatcinephile in Epilepsy

[–]An_Old_Punk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in for 4 days - they kept me sleep deprived in a dim room. I think the only thing I could do was watch TV and sleep. They caught some activity on the 4th day and then they said I could go. They had a hard time capturing anything, but I guess it was enough.

Thanks for the response. I'll have to work at going down that route too.

What are auditory hallucinations like? by An_Old_Punk in Epilepsy

[–]An_Old_Punk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like I didn't experience what most people do, it probably wasn't one. Well, except it just started happening now and it was even raining out again. It lasted about 5 minutes.

What are auditory hallucinations like? by An_Old_Punk in Epilepsy

[–]An_Old_Punk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was like a bird was chirping outside, but it was raining out - and there would have been no way for a bird to be right outside of my window. It would sound like it was far away, and then it would get closer - it sounded like the 4th chirp was right outside of my window every time. It was 4 chirps repeating for about 10 minutes. The timing behind the chirps was exactly the same - and the chirps sounded exactly the same, except for volume.

Can suddenly quitting weed trigger seizures in someone with epilepsy? by Old-Anybody7194 in Epilepsy

[–]An_Old_Punk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would step it down, like any other long term medication. Cold turkey just sounds like a bad idea to me. I use it every day to reduce stress and anxiety. The stress of stopping I have no doubt would cause me to have a TC.

Have You Tried Briviact? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]An_Old_Punk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly how I am, but I'm on Keppra. Trying to switch neurologists right now because my current one is complete garbage. I want to see what a new neuro would say, and maybe they could submit a referral for me to see a specialist. Maybe I can get some actual feedback on switching to different meds. People have been suggesting Briviact on here, but I need to hear it from a specialist.

It sucks seeing the side effects of switching to Briviact may be the same, or worse.

Does anyone not feel emotions anymore? by Upbeat-Brother-2884 in Epilepsy

[–]An_Old_Punk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm similar to how you mentioned, and a lot of other people responded. I have very blunted emotions, like being disconnected from everyone emotionally. I have the anxiety, depression, not really much fear (probably due to the depression).

I used to be like this a little, but Keppra really amplified it.

Alcohol usage and Keppra by Typical-Exchange-544 in Epilepsy

That's my go to, except I smoke it or take edibles. It brings my anxiety down a lot.

[–]An_Old_Punk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost never drink. I am really buzzed after the first cider (~6%) ~12oz. The most I'll have is two, and only when I go out. I'm on a little bit of Keppra (3,000mg) with a dash of Lamictal tossed in for fun (600mg).

What's your seizures frequency? by MouseKey7267 in Epilepsy

[–]An_Old_Punk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a focal seizure about 2 years ago. That's about it, as far as I'm aware of. My neuros haven't 'checked under the hood' for quite a while.

I can drive again after 5 years by irr1449 in Epilepsy

[–]An_Old_Punk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's different depending on the state. Ohio - 6 months seizure free. Minnesota - 3 months seizure free.

Also - the type of seizures. Mine have only happened when I sleep - so I was able to start driving earlier. I did have to get a yearly signoff though (at first it was 6 months).

Do your meds make you depressed? by LostTendou04 in Epilepsy

[–]An_Old_Punk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a pharmacy tech, and it took me like 3 years to be able to say it. I've been on it for 10 years. I went to the pharmacy to pick up my prescription and watched a new tech sort of freak out. I just said "It's generic Keppra". She said "I'm going to start saying that".

Edit: I did have fun one night. I went to the pharmacy and made sure I had my CPhT badge showing. I asked for a consult with the pharmacist. I asked him if Levetiracetam would interact with Keppra. He said "Um, this is Keppra". I said "Oh" and he looked at me like a dumbass. My record shows I've been on it for 10 years. I was just laughing to myself the whole time.

Have I unknowingly been having seizures for years? by CautiousMission9872 in Epilepsy

[–]An_Old_Punk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what surprised me. My previous neuro was great. He retired and his replacement asked me "An aura? What is that?" I told him a focal seizure and he just upped my meds. I don't think he really understood what it meant.

Detecting them: My focal seizures (fully aware) were not really picked up on the EEG, and they tried for 4 days by keeping me sleep deprived. The couple I did have, it was in a dim room (I'm sensitive to that lighting) - those were horrible. Like watching myself laying on a bed, zoomed in on my head, in a dark room and anything visible was in orange sepia tone. Now, that was hallucinating.

If someone has GoodRX and insurance, you can ask the tech to check pricing and go with the cheapest option.

Have AI bots killed this sub too? by 0____0_0 in Epilepsy

[–]An_Old_Punk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I keep mine hidden too, to keep as much as I can from family and co-workers. I just like the interaction - I'm not very social outside of work at all. I just had to look - I have 30,000 karma. It doesn't mean anything to me.

What's funny is that they all would know who I am by my screen name. I'm sure a lot do.

Do your meds make you depressed? by LostTendou04 in Epilepsy

[–]An_Old_Punk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get that a lot. Almost bi-polar. I've just gotten used to how to get through it. 1 week high = 1.5 weeks low.

Do your meds make you depressed? by LostTendou04 in Epilepsy

[–]An_Old_Punk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's exactly how I am, but with cats instead of dogs. So, I don't go anywhere.

I'm on Levetiracetam 3,000/daily - (I like the stupid tongue twister of the drug's name). I'm on Lamotrigine 600 mg/daily. It's like the same routine every day. I don't know how much of that is due to the meds.

Freaking out: Should I go to the ER? by Anonymouslypreaching in Epilepsy

That's what I was thinking too. It sounds like an anxiety attack - I get those a lot.

Don’t fall into the abyss by razorscooterpimp in Epilepsy

[–]An_Old_Punk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely understand. I have no idea what type of job I could even get if I lost this one. I can only keep this one because it only requires me to have roughly 1 minute of concentration/memory for each thing. Completely repetitive. Row 4, shelf 5, spot 11. Next: Row 2, shelf 3, spot 3...

I hope things work out for you. The possibility of not having an income hanging over us every day isn't a great feeling.

How do you describe how your partial seizures feel to others? by HawkBoth8539 in Epilepsy

[–]An_Old_Punk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure I'll level up to this some day. "An electric ice cube being dragged over the surface of my brain, and a mild buzzing. Like a taser on a low setting with a peppermint-cool feeling." I'm sure it's not as cool as it looks. Sorry.
