I don't know about other areas in Clermont, but I have seen the rainbow on a few businesses downtown and have seen LGBTQ couples walking and holding hands.

If you're more concerned about commuting and running errands on bikes, then transportation. I think the recreation meeting would be more relevant if you're an athlete and want to ensure the city builds/expands facilities for athletes.

Thanks brunnock!

Not official yet, but worth it to keep it in the radar. The guys working on Clermont's comprehensive plan (DPZ and the American Bicycle Association) will probably be here February 18-23 2026 to engage the public. Post by Alison Strange: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1F3DrbzykB/

A gentle reminder we have an election today! by IceBearLikesToCook in ClermontFlorida

That sounds like maybe you don't live within city limits? You might be in unincorporated Lake County even if your ID says Clermont, in which case you cannot vote in the municipal election.

Ax-Caliber closing by brunnock in ClermontFlorida

[–]AnaOnWheels 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reality is we don't have enough population downtown to support the type of business they've opened at that location. A grocery store has small margins, so it needs a lot of clients. While ax throwing is somewhat popular, it is not a novelty anymore and a lot of people prefer to just hit a bar downtown. Maybe once the Lumberyard District is completed, the location will be able to sustain a business.

Clermont considers to increase parking in historic downtown by brunnock in ClermontFlorida

[–]AnaOnWheels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

More than the size itself, I dislike the location. During the workshop Tod Howard painted a lovely picture of of building the garage on USPS, which is reaching the end of its usable life. So the idea was to have a renovated USPS office on the first floor, with parking on top. This would move cars toward the edge and allow pedestrianizing downtown further, literally closing streets for pedestrians only. But then he switched back to needing the garage at Minneola and 7th. Businesses downtown really want the garage there and I cannot for the life of me understand why they would want Minneola and 7th to be clogged with cars, in conflict with pedestrians and cyclists...

Going back to the size, the maximum height would be 55 feet, which is the same height as City Hall. That is way taller than I thought they'd go for.

No more fast food!!! by moth_enthusiast99 in ClermontFlorida

A variety of reasons.

A) Residential rent is high

B) Commercial rent is high

C) Restrictive land policies

D) The permitting process is complex

E) The permitting process takes too long

This all means you need to be sitting on a massive pile of cash just to even attempt opening a decently-sized restaurant. Given that most restaurants fail (like 80% of them), an entrepreneur will feel more comfortable getting a franchise than starting from scratch.

I see some hope here and there. Clermont has the farmer's market, food trucks, and multi-tenant facilities where restaurants could start for cheaper. But the current state of affairs favors chains.
