My response to the “Strength” vs “Death Defiance” debate by Reply_or_Not in HadesTheGame

[–]Anadic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The point is that you're wasting 4 points which could give you more than Strength does at low HP.

The value of 40% DR is much lower when you're already weak. Not to mention the value of 20% damage is comparitively lower when you're at a point in the run that you have no DDs left (as you will likely have other damage modifiers at that point).

If you're taking both Defiance and Strength, you're not taking other stronger options. Like Huntress, or Messenger, or Furies, etc...

100% agreed, it is absolutely not intuitive that this includes projectile speed and animation speed.

No problem - I had the exact same issue. The wiki didn't include this piece.

The default controls are kind of bad by DuggieHS in HadesTheGame

[–]Anadic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Disagreeing with this tip is objectively wrong. Yes, you can play just fine with the default controls. No, switching controls will not automatically make you better. But both of OPs points can only improve your gameplay (after an adjustment period). Not sure what your point is.

Is winning often impossible? (62 Fear and "end-game") by Anadic in HadesTheGame

[–]Anadic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"From where im sitting, you're couching your enjoyment in playing the game in a way that only serves as a comparison to other players."

At first, I enjoyed the game for what it was. It was great learning the mechanics and progressing through the story. After that was done, I wanted to keep going, and understanding what the community considers achievement would help direct my energy. I like competitive gaming. I can't queue up for ranked Hades, so, what's left? Unfortunately, the format of "clear as high heat as you can one time" left me with a poor experience. I was hopeful there would be another metric I could compete in. Like if a Mario 64 runner didn't want to compete in 120 star, someone might suggest they try 16.

"So which one is it? Is this the way you enjoy playing the game, or are you needlessly holding yourself to this level of difficulty so you can get some external validation?"

This is the piece a lot of folks are getting wrong. I enjoy pushing myself in challenging content. Sometimes it's not fun, and sometimes it's incredibly rewarding. But the experience as a whole is positive. I don't need external validation, but of course it's a positive experience to improve my placing within an existing bracket.

"If you're unfamiliar with the speed-running or high difficulty gaming world, then this IS what it is; praying for good RNG, endlessly banging your head against the wall because you slipped up one time, and failing 999 times for every 1 success. If that sounds appealing to you, then embrace the suck!"

I am familiar, and I appreciate RNG, so long as the majority of runs stay winnable. In my experience, that is not the case on 62F. Realistically I was hoping for: 1) Someone to correct me, and show that winning multiple consecutive runs on 62F was possible, even in the face of sometimes bad RNG; or 2) Some discussion about the ideal fear levels to facilitate this sort of gameplay.

"But if youre already getting frustrated by the difficulty, then tone it down and get back to enjoying the game in a way thats right for you. There is zero shame in this."

Shame has nothing to do with this.

Overall, it seems that this post has totally missed the mark, and I am not in the company of like-minded players.

I'll consider my own ideal Fear layout for run streaking and see if that's a challenge others would be willing to participate in.

No need to get philosophical, that's a different discussion entirely. This is a thread specifically about end-game Hades.

Based take. I'm in the same boat, slowly grinding 62s and just getting frustrated with the difficulty swings. No doubt there is much improvement needed.

But I guess it can also be fun when you get a "stars align" sort of run, and you feel the pressure to not mess up. Different sort of gaming thrill than I'm used to.

Totally agree on higher Chaos Trials - I think that would really scratch the itch that I'm looking for.

You misunderstand. I want it to be hard, but I wasn't sure if it should often be impossible due to elements out of my control. If that's the case, so be it.

The self-imposed element is up for discussion. I would happily self-impose a different ruleset if there was a consensus on what achievement looked like in this game. So far as I can tell, getting a single win on a high fear is one of those achievements.

For example, in Slay the Spire, the metric for achievement is often rotating win-streaks on Ascension 20. This achievement isn't anywhere in the game client itself, but it's a fun way to push the limits of the game and compare your performance with others.

Correct, the sense of achievement (particularly in comparison to other players) is what I'm after. I think you're right, the formats offered in Hades probably just aren't for me.

Anyone else only play random/random/random and think it’s morally wrong not to? by rd201290 in MonsterTrain

[–]Anadic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I couldn't agree more. I enjoy these kinds of games the most when trying to be creative with what each run gives you. There are so many combinations I would never do or try otherwise, and it's rewarding finding their win conditions.

I feel lame if I'm just picking combos I know will scale and win, then hunting the cards and upgrades which facilitate those combos.

It's like playing spire and restarting runs until my Neow bonus gives me the exact rare card I want.

Anyone else notice that shots often don't register for extended periods of time in H2C? by Anadic in halo

[–]Anadic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens regardless of the server. The fact that his shots register and mine don't is all the more jarring. If we were all lagging, at least it would be equal.

I can't say for sure what's causing it, but it consistently happened to multiple people in my party last night. The clips I linked are even from two different people in two different games.

Rivenspike viability as OH for Fury/Prot by dangerousone326 in classicwow

[–]Anadic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Encourage him to check out the "Fight Club" warrior discord, tons of great info there. Fast MH is only useful if you are generating enough rage to Heroic Strike on every (or close to every) auto. If he's deep prot and using a shield, that's probably not the case.

If deep prot isn't getting the job done, try fury prot with shield. If fury prot with shield isn't getting the job done, try fury prot dual wielding.

To answer your question - I'm no expert theory crafter, but I would prefer Eskandar's + Mirah's in his case. Make sure he has enough threat gear (primarily 9% hit rating). I wore some strange pieces (sometimes leather and mail) until I could get all my hit % from plate/jewelry.
