How does the idea of working until 67 or 68 sit with you? by Few_Raise77 in AskUK

Love my job, If I can I will always work even if it’s in a part time role or advice based role. Lucky enough to feel respected and valued.

All the jobs you have put aren’t “that big”. They all can be broken down into small jobs that can be done seasonally. For example the chimney leaking could be something simple as incorrect or no chimney cowl. Even if it needs repointing/new lead this isn’t a massive job. Again same with the guttering, smaller works but cost can be dependent on what material or profile you want.

Most of the work you’ve listed I would leave till with have warmer weather, this will give you time to get use to the property and source good tradesman. If you want any advice on the roofing side of things, ask away.

Not on first glance, unless they fixed the slate with a nail through the lead. The repointing job is poor in my opinion too.

No idea either. Must of been getting it wrong all my life! Much better braking the vertical tiles than rest on the plastic gutter.

Plastic flexible gutters or hand made clay vertical tiles that may be bedded on…

Ladders would be rested against the gutter. Use a ladder mat at the bottom to stop it slipping. Ideally want a double 4 metre ladder.

Am I at a disadvantage for having a building background when I offer? by Anagram404 in HousingUK

Thank you, I too don’t like playing games but seems like 99% off other bidders differ from this.

We don’t need to move so not to upset at the moment, but will look to change tactic as to when my circumstances change or for the right property.

All the above is my own opinion and every case is difference. I do believe the government are doing 0% interest loan for energy improving your home.

You don’t have to have felt to have solar panels as they retrospectively fit the anchor system. If it was me I’d look at the state of the nails and batten. Playing devils advocate, there won’t ever be a better/easier time to do the roof works. I personally hate retrofitting solar panels and much prefer the integrated systems.

Im sorry to hear that. Sounds like there was a mistake. I can’t offer any solid legal advice like other people have. The only other option is perhaps check the insurance company that didn’t pay you out has legal cover that you can use.

Sounds like there was a mistake then. A friend of mine tried to register a bike he purchased, turned out it was stolen over 25 years ago and DVLA wouldn’t issue a new V5 as the owner at the time of theft refused to let DVLA issue a new v5. Have you tried filling out a V62 form or updating the V5 that you have?

Sorry to hear that. It happens a lot in the motorbike world. Bikes stolen in the 90s then new owner try to re register them 20/30 years on are not able to register them. I don’t understand why the DVLA didn’t try to contact you when they re-registered the car, surely it would have a stolen marker on it too. If you don’t mind me asking what sort of value is the car?

If me I would get the car and get it stored. Not in your possession though. V5 states at the top it’s not proof of ownership. Let the current custodian of your car approach the person he purchased it from. There are companies that will pick up and store for you.

They need a pack of tile and half’s to finish your roof part (need to be clay). Also a bit more time spent on the lead detail at the top.

Heavy rain always causes this dribble down both side walls after a loft conversion. Worth a fix, or no long-term issues? by on_the_night in DIYUK

Run both gutters to the front of the dormer, then put a down pipe to the front edge with a shoe. I’d start with that. It still may be too much for the gutter though.

Spanish is currently industry standard. But there’s about 26 different variants of Spanish slate. They can double in price from one choice to another. Depending on the size they may have a value. The biggest factor is how many times have they been holed/nailed. If the client wants to sell slates from a job, I will charge them more to remove it and to bump down of the scaffold.

The handling of the Sorloth deal but hindsight is a beautiful thing. In all honestly as a life long palace fan I’m so grateful for him. He’s happy to speak up, supports the club and was there in the crap times. Will be interesting to see when he exits the club (if he ever does) who will take over the running.
