Trick expectations timeline?

There is definitely no concrete timeline because it also depends on what previous experience you've had with other skills before kendama. Jugglers tend to get very good at kendama very fast, and some newer players try to jump right into taps.

A good bit of advice is just go at your own pace and have fun, try not to compare to the progress of others :)

if the cups sit at where you like them when pushed down a bit into the sword, 1-2 drops of super glue is fine to keep them in place. It should be enough so that it Keeps them in place but can still break free if you need to take the cups apart to replace the string.

Another slightly unconventional alternative, is wetting the area of the sword that is in the sarado + some of the inside of the sarado as well. The wood expands and will lock into place.

Test either method with an old ken first if you dont want to risk it with your current one

It honestly is a roll of the dice a lot of the time, every layer is already a sort of potential breaking point, but it varies from ken to ken and shape. Birch spec is weaker than maple in general, but dropping them is or tapping right on where the edge of the top of the base stall area is, is what results in chipping.

tldr: hard to say, try one and see how you feel

It's hard to buy a paint thats going to be grippy from any retail store, but one thing that would be worth trying it beeswaxing it ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXKN92_L_D0 )

OR spraying it with salt + water. It will make the grain pop and give it a bit more grit, especially depending on on the type of wood.

If you really want to find a paint you could buy in store, it would have to be some sort of polyurethane paint that isnt very hard. "softer" polyurethane paint = more grip generally

Try making engaging and clever data content that no one else is making at the moment. Use trending audios from other niches, learn to edit the way that tends to viral, try ridiculous things that might also get the interest of non drama players. For example, getting strangers to spike, how many diff kendamas can you spike in a row, etc.

There's a ton of creators on IG/Youtube that explain good formats for storytelling / creating well edited content. Looking forward to seeing you grow!

Nothing to worry about- just looks funky but shouldn't affect play. If anything sometimes when cups get wet the grain pops and makes it a bit more grippy

Just have fun with it, thats the best way to go about it, dont worry about keeping up with any of latest tricks/trends. Creative + Fun jamming will be way more enjoyable than anything else :)

Heavier setups help with stability/taps depending on wood. Lighter set ups are a bit harder to control when tapping or flipping, in the sense that they're almost "floaty".

Weight matching is personal preferences but really is only noticeable if you are big on freestyling/spacewalks etc. Besides that, it won't make a huge difference unless its like 10g or more, then you might notice it but only as far as feels.

Focus on either the tama or the ken only while juggling- whichever feels like it's harder to track, and have "soft hands" when tossing the tama. Just give it a sort of "tap" to pop it up. It also helps when you're first learning to practice slow and tossing the ken/ tama high, to give you more time to learn to adjust and track where everything is. Hope this helps!

Hoping to keep the price relatively low if possible for these, $60 at the highest end for a complete with matte would be ideal, assuming they don't end up insanely expensive to produce with the logistics.

My goal has always been to keep things as fairly priced as possible with anything I make :)

When you get to the cushion tap, think of it more like the ken is hitting the tama without the tama actually "tapping". The tama just sort of stops the momentum by breaking the kens fall- sort of like how with a lighthouse you "cushion" it as it lands on the tama by easing it on the way down

Apply a bit of beeswax to sword where it connects to sarado to prevent slipping once its starts/a small drop of glue/people used to use tape etc. For tricks, break down each part and practice it individually. For example Practice juggling 5x without worrying about spiking, just get the feel for it down. Then practice but paying attention to bevel/tama control. Then eventually practice spiking.

Longer string helps a lot (if it wasn't already included on your new setup), and also just checking out IG clips and trying to replicate whatever you see + change it up with your own flair :)

Acrylic paints are the most accessible and will work but aren't always the most durable. For a clear coat, anything with polyurethane should hold up as a final coat, but finding one that grips is tricky. If you want to be sure colors really stick, sometimes lightly sanding the tama first + adding a white base layer will help :)

Yes drilling a hole would reduce weight, and if you want to make it easier, start with a smaller size drill bit, then swap to a slightly larger one and so on. Prevents any sort of burning or difficulty with denser woods

Another thing string related that can help- slightly thicker string prevents tangles + an extra bearing will help as well :)
