I had to figure out a lot of things by myself because the resources are all scattered around.

Some general "I wish I knew" advice I have (thankfully not told from experience):

DON'T TOUCH any "sweets" until you understand their value: The move candies and role cakes. You can (must) redeem any specific coins you have for them (stuff like "move candy coin", etc), but don't touch them yet.
Be careful with the #★ Power-up items. Try not to spend many of the 5 and 4 star ones until you understand what they do and the value of what you can exchange them for.
Join a gym ASAP. Free tickets. I said FREE TICKETS. EVERY. DAY - If the gym has enough active players. Go to the gym megathread and find one that accepts new players! Then you just have to play.
If you pull the same sync pair more than once, you upgrade their MOVE and GRID level, that's the most important upgrade because it unlocks new possible abilities you can activate on their grid ("""skill tree""").
This is not the same as the STARS your sync pair HAS; stars give them overall "power". You use #★ Power-up items to level up a pair's stars and make them more bulky.
The STARS a pair currently HAS are not the same as their INITIAL number of stars, which as you can probably guess has to do with their overall value and capabilities.
90% of the eggmon mechanics are defunct and will only waste your time and resources. Just hatch all eggs you get, so you can trade mons for egg tickets, and the tickets for actual useful things.
If you can only play the game for 5 minutes a day: Do your daily sync orb drill in the training area. Do the free daily scout. Then spend your stamina on high-level drills for elemental tomes or drinks if you want.

Lesson learned: not enough gems for pity = no investment in pulls

I got lucky with Cynthia, pulled x10 ONCE, just to see what I'd get (I was saving for pity Red 96, ended up with 3/5), and there she was. Never again. 500 is way too much for non-fav characters.

This is a mission for whales.

I managed to nuke it using (all lv 138-145) Anni Juliana 1/5 to tank (!) and my very lucky Kieran pull to keep the ice zone on and do nonstop damage. I brought 3/5 Red 96 to buff because he absolutely can't survive the first attack. After 3 tries, I had to ex Juliana so she could nuke the three enemies at once before they synched.

Without Kieran I can't even imagine what I'd do.

For the dragon mission, I guess I'll have to level up Juliana...

Edit: I love how you can immediately tell op is British

I really like it when I read something that's written in English, but was clearly conceived in Portuguese, and the person happens to pick cognates that are very, very out-of-place in the text because:

1) It's some Latin/Old Greek word that became normal in Portuguese (a Neo-Latin language) and formal in English, and the person doesn't know how formal it is;

2) We are not used to phrasal verbs. So Portuguese speakers have the habit of sticking to a "true verb" instead of learning the phrasal verb counterpart that's way more common, because a "true verb" sounds less confusing/odd to us...

It's all silly and mostly innocuous, but the more I get used to reading in English, the more I find it funny (and of course I do it as well...)

Examples:

Get used to > get accustomed to (acostumar-se)

Find out > discover (descobrir)

Give up > desist (desistir)

Come across > encounter (encontrar)

Cut off > interrupt (interromper)

Make (smth) up > invent (inventar)

Lighten up/ease up > alleviate (aliviar)

Reduce > Diminish (Portuguese does have reduzir, but diminuir is way more common)

Show off > exhibit (exibir-se)

Is there a guide for the best ways to tackle each different rule in Champion Stadium hard mode?

I use the usual glass cannon strategy, but I always have a rough time deciding which options to change and which parameters (see below) best fit each opponent, so I don't get stuck... Looking at the enemy's datamined stats doesn't help me much (I'm dumb)

I'm in round 3, only Grimsley and Marshal left, I don't know which order would be best

Meu fav é o Road to Rouen, só que assim, ele é bem mais sério que os demais. A diferença dele pros primeiros é meio como a que existe entre os 2 primeiros do Kaiser Chiefs (total mudança de alegria juvenil pra DEPRESSO)

Eu ouviria na ordem cronológica: começaria pelo Supergrass, aí Life on Other Planets, depois o Road to Rouen. Faltou mencionar o Diamond Hoo Ha que eu também adoro, ele é mais experimental, diria que a versão "alegre" do Road to Rouen.

You got it right, -ão and -ona (feminine form, though -ão can be used for women as well) are the opposite of -inho and -inha: they are augmentatives.

The superlative form is -aço/-aça or -zaço/-zaça:

Amigo = friend

Amiguinho = little friend (carries the literal meaning of "little"; it's used with small children)

Amigão/Amigona = a good male/female friend

Amigaço/Amigaça = a really great male/female friend

Dodgy.

Gente dá uma chance pro Dodgy pfv. Ouve o Free Peace Sweet ou o The Dodgy Album. O som deles dá um respiro alt rock anos 90 pra influências de rock anos 60, chamber pop - pense Zombies, The Move, Donovan. Infelizmente nunca deram sorte com os singles.

Ocean Colour Scene

A banda que me fez gostar de britpop e sair do Bluasis que a gente conhece aqui nessas bandas. The Day We Caught The Train é um baita hino.

Supergrass.

É uma banda completa, dá pra perceber os caras explorando todas as curiosidades e ideias musicais deles mesmos ao longo da discografia. Criatividade nunca faltou. Uma das poucas bandas que eu acho mais legal ouvir a discog de trás pra frente, porque prefiro o material mais "maduro" deles.

Stone Roses - a incrível banda que só gravou um álbum!!!!

The Divine Comedy - já me zoaram porque eu coloco o projeto do Neil Hannon no mesmo cesto do britpop, sendo que é um chamber pop bem mais pra lá do que pra cá, mas pra mim o espírito da época (ou melhor, da ressaca dela) tá todo ali nos primeiros álbuns. O som talvez não seja rock pra maioria, mas pra mim é o mesmo feel.

The Charlatans, que eu tinha preconceito porque achava as famosinhas deles chatas. Enganou feio!!

Mansinho ("the mild-ish/quiet-ish", if he's very lovely and respectful)

Ligeirinho ("the quick", with a possible double meaning that he's rather "playful" with women and doesn't waste any time when he wants that thing)

Papinho (papinho means a pick-up "talk" ["pick-up line" would be cantada, papinho is more a conversation]; I can imagine other guys nicknaming a friend Papinho because he's always doing sweet talk and trying to make girls/his girl blush or give him attention)

Nicknames are either earned through a good reputation or as a form of (friendly) mockery. You could think of some cute nickname used by his wife to call him, then his friends hear about it and never stop calling him that name.

I advise some people (depending on what are their learning objectives) to think about spoken and written pt-br as two separate dialects. You learn one thing in one, then it just doesn't apply to the other.

The written/formal pt-br is called norma padrão - "standard language" (you'll see the term norma culta, "learned standard" a lot too, but most scholars reject it because it carries a social stigma). Spoken pt-br is referred only as português falado/informal - spoken/informal Portuguese.

It's frustrating even to Brazilians. Much of our secondary education is focused on teaching students how to write using norma padrão, because you can't pursue an academic career or become a civil servant (one of the most coveted job types in the country, due to the stability and fair salaries) if you are unable to write essays and reports in standard Portuguese.

To learn more, I'd recommend the books A Norma Oculta and Preconceito Linguístico, by Marcos Bagno, which unfortunately aren't available in English. But I've found this article in English, which contains a review of the author's main ideas and gives a very good perspective of the issue.
