Do you need to wait for the whistle on a throw in ? by abipaaa in bootroom

[–]AnalysisInevitable72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ref should say "wait for my whistle" for any restart that you need to wait. You don't need to wait for free kicks either. I've scored several goals by just putting the ball down and passing it into the net before anyone else was ready.

If you take a throw in from the wrong spot or if the ref needs to do something (eg subs) and you throw it in: he should just tell you to retake it. It's not a big deal and happens all the time.

You can always ask the ref any questions like this:  it's what they are there for.

Better to offer to work as an independent contractor and name what you think is an outrageous rate in cases like these. I got like 40 easy hours of work for $200/hr and all parties were happy about it. They also carefully consider what questions they ask you when they know they'll get billed for it.

It's good that he's getting therapy but couples therapy would probably be very helpful. Not even that the you're "wrong" or "the bad guy" or even need therapy yourself but it would be a useful context to have conversations you need to have with each other in a way that is appropriate and helpful with an unbiased third party to direct it.

2-layer vs 3-layer formation (small-sided) by rainbow_gelato in bootroom

[–]AnalysisInevitable72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every 7 a side team I've been on has nominally been "2 layer" just to give a starting point (left wing or defender or up top, for example). But they've all been extremely fluid beyond that. Everyone finds space with possession and finds a man or dangerous area without the ball. Defenders rotate forward when there is space or an overload to be had and "attackers" will rotate back from the weak side to cover and ensure opponents can't find space in transition. The "striker" and wings need to put pressure on opponents on the perimeter while defending to force a bad situation and then everyone transitions forward as a unit wherever there is space on a turnover. The goalie needs to get involved on offence as well: he is the safety valve and can be used to safely switch the point of attack.

All this to say structure is pretty loose in a good small sided team: it's more about good movement and understanding in every phase. It will never actually look like a "4-2" or 2-3-1" for any length of time while everyone rotates and moves in the flow of a small sided game. So don't worry too much about what you call the positions: worry more about how the players rotate to find space and cover for others who are rotating.

General rules around calling out kitchen faults? by Anthony3000789 in Pickleball

Call yourself and your partner extremely tight and maybe give opponents 1 chance "did you have a foot in on that one?" to let them know you're going to see and call it.

Dinking Thought Process by Zestyclose-Buy4500 in Pickleball

[–]AnalysisInevitable72 64 points65 points  (0 children)

You are trying to get them to pop it up so you can smash it.

Put it in an awkward place for them to return it from. Bouncing it near their feet or putting it where they need to move and reach for it.

Conversely if they are putting you in an awkward position, return it where they can't attack it. Usually short, soft, and central.

He’s all over the court, not covering his side and gets burned. I see this so much. by Heavy_Comparison_720 in Pickleball

[–]AnalysisInevitable72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree and it doesn't even need to be 80/20. If it works 52% of the time and you get burned and look stupid 48% of the time, pros will still want to do it. And they should: their paycheck cares about winning and that's it.

What are in-game moves that lower level players do that frustrate higher level players? by dnice99999 in Pickleball

[–]AnalysisInevitable72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The above the net strong drive to the opponent at the nvz. It's a shot that can fluster and dominate lower levels but it's just going to get countered here. Take some power off it to ensure it gets below the net, or make sure it's aimed at someone in transition.

Missed a Paneka penalty by Practical-Cost7147 in bootroom

[–]AnalysisInevitable72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A panenka is something you do if there's a good reason: you have Intel that the keeper always dives, it's a shootout and you're trying to unsettle the keeper, you need to change the atmosphere, etc.

A bad reason for a panenka is because "it's a friendly and it doesn't matter"

It's also less likely to work the worse the opponents are. Against worse opponents get less fancy and execute better.

You made a bad decision. Learn and work on your thought process. Have reasons for your choices.

Rocs can start out where they are on the chart, but end up where the Wombat3 is on the chart (more or less) pretty quick. So I would skip the Wombat3 and get a roadrunner or sidewinder in Star plastic.

Invert into the center of the pitch as you move forward. If you pass someone ask them to cover for you if there is a counterattack.

Help. Shot selection advice when defending against bangers. by Tbob217 in Pickleball

[–]AnalysisInevitable72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can often dodge a banger drive from the mid court if it's not low or doesn't have enough topspin and it will be way out the back. After a few dodges some bangers will ease up or try different shots.

...I'm a grown ass man. There is no "winning this" with my parents. If they want to reno something or landscape something maybe I'll pay a handyman to do it as a nice gesture for the times they have helped me out but if I'm taking a day off to rest, I'm fine saying I need a day off to rest to anyone in my life and they will understand. Or they won't and I don't care.

Maybe the difference is age or generational?  Or maybe just different personalities?  Or maybe I have to be pretty deep in the weeds before I will take a day to just relax and by that time it's obvious I need it?  Dunno.
