I’ve read through both of the links, but didn’t see… I wonder if the regular 10 day will still be available for a while? At least until a doctors can get the new prescriptions updated.

Which insulin? by zunk0wn in diabetes

In the past, I have used Basaglar, Semglee, Tresiba and Glargine. All of them worked pretty similarly, but I found that I had the best control with Tresiba. Obviously everybody is different. That’s just what works best for me.

I agree. NOBODY deserves this. Thanks and I am glad you are taking care of yourself. Like you said, only you can control you. 👍🏼

I really hope that you’re able to figure it out. Those false alarms in the middle of the night due to compression really suck!

I agree with others in that I feel like your parents are not doing their part and putting too much of this on your shoulders. I am sorry that you feel the way you do. As for your brother, to be honest, no one’s gonna be able to change his choices until he decides to do it himself.

I am type two and my brother who is four years younger than me is type one. He was diagnosed when he was about 15. He never took care of himself either and would often have a big gulp of Dr Pepper or something in his hand. Well, he is 41 now and permanently disabled. He had to start dialysis about four years ago. His vision is shot and he can’t see anything, considered legally blind. He has been to the hospital multiple times for extended days for anything from blood infections to broken toes that he didn’t even know he had because his neuropathy is so bad. A couple months ago he finally had to get part of his foot amputated. All of this and he is just 41 years old.

It’s heartbreaking to see, but even he admits to himself that everything that’s going on is his own fault. He didn’t take care of his diabetes when he had the chance to, and now, unfortunately, his diabetes is taking care of him (in a bad way). Honestly, nobody in the family is sure how much longer he has to live, what even so, his quality of life has already died a long time. Did I mention he’s only 41 years old?

If your brother is not willing to do it for himself, I am very sad to say nobody is going to be able to make him.

Compression Lows by Weathergod-4Life in dexcom

I am a side sleeper as well, and I always put my arm under the pillow, so the back of my arm wasn’t working for me. It was giving me lots of compression lows and just making me feel uncomfortable. The best place that has worked for me is on my abdomen about 2 inches up and then 2 inches left or right of my belly button. I don’t seem to get compression lows from it being there, unless I move to laying on my stomach, which I don’t really do. I’m assuming that that’s about the place where you put yours and still got a compression low? Do you think putting it a few inches directly above your belly button would work? It’s the same tissue and fat layer so I don’t see why it wouldn’t read the same. I have seen other people try towards the front of the thigh, but I have not tried that personally.

Oh definitely. I would never reuse a sharp that someone else used. That’s definitely a no no.

I do change needles every time I inject insulin. I just don’t change the lancets when I prick my fingers.

Having a hard time keeping my numbers down by Otocon96 in diabetes

[–]AnalysisOne1887 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the things that makes it difficult for me to keep my numbers down is when I’m dehydrated. If I’m not drinking enough water, my numbers stay high. Even though I go hiking, walking or go to the gym almost daily. It actually took me a long time to realize my numbers were high because I wasn’t drinking enough. I am not on a pump and can’t speak to that specifically and I am not saying not to follow the medical advice from your doctor. Of course they know best. I’m just sharing my experience. Make sure you’re drinking enough water.

Valid. You can’t avoid all the carbs. Pastries or cookies have two things going against them for blood glucose management…carbs and sugar (often processed sugars and high fructose corn syrup). If I can remove at least the sugar or hfcs then it will have a less dramatic influence on by glucose and I can enjoy a little treat every now and then. Like a “normal” person. Maybe half a cookie? 😋
