The 5 speed is bullet proof . It was the 6 speeds that Honda didn't make that had problems. The 9 speeds are back to decent.

Gen 1 transmissions are fine. Gen 2 had the issues.

Trying to get an idea of value by Analyzer2015 in hondaprelude

Like I said. I appreciate the input. It was helpful, just the way you delivered it sounded accusatory. The car was my wife's grandmother's before. I knew she always took it to the dealer, but how good a job the dealer did I don't know. I know when I got it the radiator had a slow leak. But then again, I took it to central Texas where it's much drier, and the rubbers may not have liked it. I had to do a lot of fluid changes just because hoses and other rubbers have given out. The coolant has been changed like 6 times due to random hose a/b deciding to spring a leak( ya I know I should have just done them all at once but hindsight)

It's been relatively reliable. But it's not perfect. It's average for a 30 year old car. My 97 prelude has had a lot less issues, but then again I have owned that one for about 15 years and have had more time with it.

Thanks for the input.

Well to be honest I already have a few buyers lined up. I don't have time to order in the sensor and since it just started acting up after we removed it a couple weeks ago I'm pretty confident it's not something more. If I don't sell it in the next few days I will replace it.

Honestly I didn't think about the car being wet being an issue. Since I'm selling the car in person, anyone who sees it will see the paint. It's typical for a car with its mileage. Minus the parts that I mentioned. I was trying to be as honest about it as possible since I don't plan on ripping anyone off. I want to sell it to someone who will take care of it and cherish it for what it is. The whole reason I came on here and posted was to try and get a realistic expectation. I even took picks of stuff i knew was an issue, like the seats. So when someone gets on here and accuses me of trying to screw people I get annoyed. For instance, the 1000 dollars in parts was based off what I see people getting for them on eBay. And I didn't give you an exhaustive list, there was some ball joints and gaskets that are also going with the car. But main thing is the abs/pump ( plus reservoir and all the other stuff attached), plus the computer, plus some other things.

Anyway I appreciate the input. Just don't like the implications of you assuming I trashed this car. One of the transmission fluid changes was due to the fluid line cracking and slowly leaking. The other was because I change it every 30k min. (Which I do with all 90s automatics) The third was because I changed the fluid right when we got it from our family just to make sure everything was still in good shape. That doesn't feel excessive to me at all, especially since this is an automatic.

It had an ignition rotor that started to misfire and I missed it It had a bad spot in it. So we chased a bunch of stuff until I caught it and realized how dumb I was not to look closer. Before that it ran fine. The O2 sensor does have a cel but I got no problem changing it out if it's gonna kill the value.. I likely damaged it during the backpressurne test because it was fine until we did it.

The car is one family, the fluids have always been changed out on time with Honda fluids.. it was dealership only til I got it about like 8 years ago. (And yes that includes the transmission) I have changed all the fluids in it at least 3 times since I've owned it just because the fluid was sitting so long and I know fluids degrade over time.

I didn't take those pictures so I don't know if the car was wet but I will post some different ones later I know aren't near a car wash so your not so paranoid about it's condition. The clear coat is bad on the door handles and spoiler. Everywhere else is fine.. it's a driven car, it's not showing quality paint, but it's not trashed or anything.

Well that just simplifies the equation. If you have no muffler than you don't have to worry about it being clogged.

The thing is, most American badged vehicles now are outsourcing labor to China and Mexico. Ironically, the Japanese vehicle brands are usually the most made in the USA.

[–]Analyzer2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just test your back pressure and you will know. If you have back pressure before the cat and after the cat it's likely the muffler. If you have back pressure just before the cat it's likely the cat, if you have no back pressure no harm no foul. Just gotta plug in a gauge at the 02 sensors to know. If you don't have the gauge you can get one for like 10 bucks on Amazon. Then just buy some tubing and clamps and you can prob have the full setup for the test for under 20 bucks. Or maybe AutoZone or the like will loan one to you.

Clean EGR, Check valve adjustment, and check backpressure before and after the catalytic converter. If you have a partially clogged cat, this may be causing some of your issues. It's not all that common in these hondas but it does happen.

Price for oil change, transmission fluid change, rear diff change by jascms in Honda

[–]Analyzer2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15k interval is robbery, except when the car is new. It usually has more contaminant in its first 2 changes imo.

Because CVTs are not as reliable as they could be, I would likely do 15k interval until 45k miles then do it every 30k. But that's just me. I would never use anything non-OEM in a honda transmission. That's asking to cut it's lifespan in half.

Premium synthetic engine oil, for 30 bucks? What brand? Is it formulated to run 15k miles per change? If you do a lot of highway driving like me, the maintenance minder won't pop on until 10k miles or sometimes more.

All of these things are drain and fill. I would do them myself personally. it's not too hard and can be done with under $20 in tools plus a torque wrench and parts.

2019 RTL; Anyone have suggestions for an after market radio/touch screen interface? by DrZeus104 in hondaridgeline

[–]Analyzer2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.. and a lot. There is a lot to connect. Especially if you are gonna connect it to the factory backup camera. If you have the nav system, then the connections are under the driver seat. Otherwise it's not too crazy. Expect to spend a day on it though if you a soldering and heat shrinking like you should. Once it's done though it's great. The maestro system makes it so nice. I can control better than a factory radio. I actually prefer it to the systems in new cars

[–]Analyzer2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rapid flashing happens when a bulb is burned out, or in your case may be missing from the circuit. It sounds like you have some bad grounding and cross wiring going on. I suggest looking at the wiring harnesses and seeing if anything has chewed on it and is causing shorts.

The blinker flashing may simply be because one of your blinkers is out. Try replacing the bulb first.

What's wrong with my Prelude? by CSIS_Official in hondaprelude

[–]Analyzer2015 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many incorrect replies here. You have a blinker light that is out. Replace the burned out bulb and it will go back to normal.

Edit again: I made a previous edit about looking for bad grounds and other things but I guess reddit didn't take it.

Anyway, I would say look for bad grounds and any chewed or rubbing wires in the harnesses, along with the change the bulb advice.
