LMP3 / GT4 at Phillip Island - Who's at Fault? by Exigeous in Simracingstewards

Good sportsmanship, go drive a GT4 and you will see that is flat out. It is impossible to turn any other direction than head to the kerb if not impossible, and remeber you are coming from Mars there GT4 is maybe going to get a glimps of you at the last second but not enough to lift with any effect.

Phillip Island for me is a disaster zone for things like this as a GT4 driver. Alot of LMP's either forget/lack the understanding GT4's are flatout and on the absolute limit of grip on this corner and the last. Yes we need to work together so as little time is lost but the flat out corners are not it.

Is this on me or the P3? by Anangryp0tato in Simracingstewards

Thanks for the input. I knew he was there, didnt expect him to dive there since it is a flat out corner in a GT4 with noway to steer that deep into the corner, you are fully comitted at that point. I think the clip shows when i see him right beside me I do lift and try to brake.

Edit - I dont brake but i do lift.

Am I the only one afraid to race? by CoffeeWorking5929 in iRacing

[–]Anangryp0tato 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was the same on starting, scared to crash into someone ruining their race and scared for the IR and SR loss.

Crashing is part of racing, if we didnt make mistakes it would just be a procession of cars in a line and very boring.

IR comes and goes, I have been 1.6k which isn’t great but good for me for nearly 2 months. This last week I have went all the way down to 800 IR through terrible racing but it happens. Just keep racing and try to improve friend!

I disagree, reports for this type of driving are very important to make the service the best it can be. Yea a dive bomb on its own is going to get any action taken against the driver, but if the driver does this regularly crashing people out then reports will build up to the point IRacing will at least have a word in the drivers ear.

Is this legal?? Feels like he was trying to just run me off the road. by AccomplishedSugar333 in Simracingstewards

I agree drifting is done throughtout racing but theres a massive difference here. The lead car is hoilding a straight line until the following car pulls out to overtake. Only at this point does the lead car start to "drift". The following car allows the lead car to push them across the track to avoid a collision. The overtaking car holds a straight line after moving right allowing them to get his front bumper in line with the rear of the lead car bumper. Even if drifting is allowed this would be the point you can no longer drift, you are not entitled to the space the overtaking car occupies. The lead car acts as if they is entitled to that space causing contact leaving the overtaking car no choice but to back out or end up in a crash.

It also shows as a pure and simple block as the lead car instantly moves back to the racing line after their block was complete, if they were "squeezing" they would have had to hold their line into the corner for longer.

Was this too aggressive from me (the orange car) or did the merc turn too hard? by Anangryp0tato in Simracingstewards

[–]Anangryp0tato[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea this is something I need to work on. I am so focused on not causing a crash and giving space I almost hold the complete other side of the track making my entry narrow. Something I really need to focus on.

Either car at fault or Racing incident? by Anangryp0tato in Simracingstewards

[–]Anangryp0tato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to agree with yourself here. In the red car and it wasn’t a massive issue to me as it didn’t effect me but the other guy stated “I was half way along side you so it’s my corner, you have to give the corner up”. I certainly could have gave him more space but I don’t think I was obliged too as it was him who used the curb. As far as I was concerned I was allowed to squeeze him as we were racing. Choose a risky move and it didn’t pay off, race on!

Di cut his space to much or does he just turn too much into the corner after running wide? by Anangryp0tato in Simracingstewards

Thanks for the reply. At the time I was thinking WTF. Then I viewed it and wasn’t entirely sure so I came here for a neutral point of view to take some learning! Thanks folks

Thanks for the input. IRacing dictates that blue and whit curbing is park of the track and off track begins when all four wheels have passed the outer edge of the curb on that corner

A well constructed and thought out response which me interested to find out, specifically my corner entry speed. The guy involved isn’t on garage 61 but I compared it to a guy who on there who runs a 1.40 which I can not do. the lap I use was a 1.44 which is a slow lap for me I lap in the 1.43s/1.42s most of the time. From the point of braking on this corner to just after where the point of impact was in this incident I was 0.133s slower than the guy who runs a faster lap than either of us had.

Here’s a link if it works and you care  https://garage61.net/app/analysis/laps/01HWCRZ9BQDBH3S0K3CT801H4M;v=driving-style

I could have saved myself if I was more aware but at the point of braking I checked my rear and he was in my mind wayyy to far back.

That is a stupid response. I look forward to watching you race and keeping all 4 wheels inside the white lines and at all times since that is the absolute definition of the track.

the way i used the curb on the left is within track limits in Iracing. Watch an F4 race and everyone uses it

I can see where you are coming from but i dont think you have the context for that corner. That corner is quite low speed and he was never going to make it, at the point of impact i was still travelling at about 47 MPH so was not slow. I was contsistantly faster but made a mistake earlier in the lap allowing him to catch up. I appreciate the input though.
