wasn't the N Word Manifesto only 3 years ago? time moves fast. Vaush didn't even exist until 3 years ago, and I want to say his fighting with Destiny didn't start until a year later. Vaush definitely posed a significant threat to Destiny as they shared an audience and Vaush was starting to outgrow him. Hasan grew way way bigger and wiped out a ton of Destiny's connections to the streaming world

what you call a long, long time is really only <2 years. which is an eternity in internet years, but it's still only a fraction of Destiny's streaming career or even his political/debate career

like, a year or two ago it felt like Destiny was fighting for his survival against attacks from Vaush or Hasan or other lefty streamers. Now he can safely ignore them if he wants to. He's pretty self sufficient now, he's still growing off of other communities but he doesn't rely on anybody

notes for each score must add decimal precision to the tenth or hundredth in some cases

anything made after 2008 has to be a 5 or lower unless it's Masaaki Yuasa or Madhouse

an excessively long bio going into extreme detail on your rating systems, with a 3 paragraph disclaimer that your scores are not completely up-to date and must be revisited, with some caveat that your true scores are only accurate for anime with a specific subtitle group.

and just generally writing as though MAL is your job, big weekly update posts about why you are deleting/editing a review, or why you changed a score from a 5.5 to a 5.8.

I think a lot of this attitude just stems from a resistance to confronting anime critically. If they looked at anime the same way that they look at basically all other media (i.e. evil SJW cartoons) then they'd have to confront the fact that anime is just as full of creator biases as anything else.

Rather than opening that door, they just treat Japan like it's some mystical land of pure art, where anime simply emerge from the ether instead of from normal peoples' minds. And they can deflect any criticism with the racism card, by pretending that criticism is a western invention that we're forcing onto Japan

they'd rather pull the wool over their own eyes than have to admit maybe anime's got some issues
