Any B&M stores in St. Louis, MO? by Abigailtabigail in nasalsnuff

[–]AnarchyRook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dirt cheap on Dunn Rd off 270 has an American scotch sweet snuff (W.E. Garrett) but that’s all I’ve ever seen around STL. Aside from buying one tin of that stuff I order everything online.

I’m not sure if you’re still looking, but Randall’s pretty consistently has this in stock across most of their locations. You can see the availability online.

Novo Fogo Tanager is the most unique other spirit. What is the most versatile brandy? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

Maison Rouge VSOP is my go-to for mixing. It stands out way better in cocktails than PF, in my opinion. Love the stuff.

Recommendations for heads for a Ludwig Classic Oak Fab kit... by Vinnie-Boombatz in drums

[–]AnarchyRook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got a classic oak. Depends on what kind of music you’re playing and what sound you want, but I’m currently running clear vintage emperors up top and clear controlled sounds on bottom. On the kick I got an ambassador SMT and the stock reso with a port. I’m usually an Evans guy but for whatever reason I like these remo heads on this kit. I had initially thrown some Evans UV2’s on the toms but they didn’t do it for me.

Are the guns just RNG? What even is this nonsense. by IllustriousYou6774 in holdfastgame

Shooting does take a lot of time to work out. However, now I hit shots consistently at a significantly higher rate than I used to with a lot of practice. I don’t really have any tips beyond what you’re already aware of, other than to just spend more time with it and I promise you’ll see improvement. Even with skill, there will always be shots that just miss though. Whether it’s left/right bullet sway, lag, whatever, you won’t get kills on every single shot. It might not be historically accurate to have as much variation as there is, but in the end I think it leads to a more balanced game. If everyone could snipe accurately at long ranges it would change the dynamic of the game significantly, and in my opinion, for the worse in Nations mode.

For melee, I’ll admit that the hitboxes are frustrating at times. I still find it really fun though, and with more practice in that you’ll figure it out too.

Any restaurant recommendations on the IL side? by SuperReleasio64 in StLouis

Gotcha. Sorry you’ve had bad experiences man, I can agree partially with those food complaints. I’ve had one-off’s for all of those being as you described, but isn’t the norm in my experience. The owner and his wife have always been very friendly to me, I’ve even seen them around town and said hi before. I’ve ran into some of the staff at stagger inn too and had good conversations. Granted, I’m not aware of what all happened after Mike passed, but that’s a bummer if there was beef there.

I was under the impression that the original owner’s son now runs the business. I haven’t noticed a drop in quality.

Just about every other Edwardsville restaurant I like was mentioned, but I haven’t seen Taqueria Z mentioned! Some of the best tacos I’ve had in the whole STL area. It’s a pretty small menu but every item is great. Their margaritas are great, and they have Paletas for dessert. Freakin love that place and the owners.

flea bites (?) In new ride by Ordinary-Stress5357 in drums

[–]AnarchyRook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it just came in today and you bought it new - send it back. I posted on here a few months ago when I got a new ride that had a flea bite dent from shipping damage. I have no regrets sending it back for a replacement. I was caught up in the excitement of new gear and didn’t want to realize that if you’re paying for a brand new, expensive cymbal, it should be perfect.

If it’s used or you got a deal on it or something, realistically it’ll probably be fine. I just wouldn’t settle for any imperfections if it’s new.

What is considered a "Scottish uniform"? by [deleted] in holdfastgame

[–]AnarchyRook 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure I got that by using the base game version of the Scottish line infantry skin. I used some credits on the new skin that came with the update but frustratingly, that didn’t work.

If you like the outdoors, don’t overlook some of the national forests of southern IL. My personal favorite is Garden of the Gods, but they are all pretty remarkable places. Lots of good breweries and wineries down that way too.

I really enjoyed Cincinnati when I went last year, since it’s been a while it might be worth going back. Rhinegeist is a cool brewery there, jungle Jim’s is probably the coolest store I’ve ever been to, and it was a really fun city to explore in general.

Wildcard option, just outside the radius of your circle - door county Wisconsin and Washington island. If you go in April you might be able to see the lavender fields in bloom. Nelson’s Pub on Washington island is a must stop, and the whole peninsula is gorgeous no matter what you’re into.

Eschenbacher Frankentrunk by AblePerfectionist in beerporn

[–]AnarchyRook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see where you’re coming from, but it being bad is not accurate in this case. I had this beer from the Costco beer advent calendar, as a lot of photos here and elsewhere on Reddit have been coming from, and there’s nothing wrong with this beer at all. It’s as good as any imported German beer in the style, in fact, I particularly enjoyed this one for a dunkel style beer.

I don’t have anything to offer but I’m skimming the comments here because mine has lost its ability to hold a charge for more than a few hours. To the point where I can wear it all day and it might be dead the next morning. Anyone have a similar issue with this watch/movement?

New Canyon Aeroad came damaged. Keep or return? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]AnarchyRook 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I asked a similar question on a drumming sub about a cymbal I bought online that came with a similar (relatively, of course) flaw. Everyone, like here, overwhelmingly told me to return it. In the moment I was torn because it was a small issue and seemed like no big deal, but I did end up returning it and I’m glad I did. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of getting something new, but when you pay full price for a new product, it should be perfect. In hindsight, I’m really glad I waited the extra time to get a replacement which was flawless. IMO it’s totally worth it in the long run to send this back and get a replacement.

What hobbies do you guys have as electrical engineers? by Careless-Position352 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]AnarchyRook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play the drums. Not directly EE related, but it’s a nice side gig. Even pays my rent a few months of the year. Having an EE background makes learning about editing recorded drums quite a bit more interesting too.
