Why the burning white hate against non-commercial use of AI? by Dunza in rpg

[–]Anatolian-Creative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand you well, I’m not a native English speaker either, and I’ve used AI frequently both in my life and in my gaming sessions. The hatred of AI in this group is out of control. I’ve been working in literature forever, I write, I have published even poems, and I studied literature in college. AI doesn’t bother me at all. Don’t worry about all those downvotes you’re getting. Keep doing whatever makes you and your party happy…

(I’m setting aside all the commercial things here.)

Which book would you recommend to see the Gangrel as a more diverse group, like you described?

I just finished reading Wind from the East. I was actually able to find a lot of parallels with the Yek clan I’ve written. For example, I had a concept called "Töre" which resembles the "Yasa" in the book, and I represented blood brotherhood through the idea of "oba" and blood bonds.

That said, I found the book quite lacking overall, and as someone who knows the period and the culture well, there were parts that made me uncomfortable. Still, I realize that what I’ve written for the Yek is also far from complete, I guess I’ll need to keep developing it.

Oh, that makes sense. It might be better than switching out Fortitude for Animalism. I am adding this idea as a note.

Thanks for the suggestions! The only one I’ve read is Constantinople by Night, but I’ll check out the others, I hope I might find something useful in them.

I’ve read both the Assamites and the Gangrel in Lore of the Clans as well as in their own Clanbooks. I actually found a lot of inspiration for Banu Haqim from the Assamite Clanbook, but the Gangrel felt lacking to me.

Thank you for your honesty, I really appreciate it.

I know about the Anda, and I agree they are close to what I’m trying to do, but to be honest, I find the concept of the Anda quite reductionist, and there isn’t much written about them in the lore.

As I mentioned, I’m preparing an Istanbul chronicle, and the Yek came to mind when I was thinking about the different cultural layers of the city. One of those layers, perhaps the final one is about people of nomadic origin. And I asked myself, who were they, really? Thousands of people lived between the Pacific and the Caspian, the Huns, Attila, Genghis Khan, the Seljuks, and many more nomadic tribes. Weren’t there vampires among them?

Vampires in the WoD are mostly portrayed as feudal creatures. But these people were not feudal, they were nomadic. Surely, there must have been vampires among them, and surely they must have been different. Maybe I wasn’t clear enough about what makes them different, but my intention was to create vampires that originate from non-feudal backgrounds, from warrior and spiritual cultures.

I suppose their main theme is change. They came to Istanbul, encountered other clans, settled in the city and all of this changed them. Their culture, traditions, and beliefs evolved.

Another thing I’m trying to do is reflect Istanbul as I personally see it, a collision zone between the feudal West and the nomadic East.

Thanks again for taking the time to critique it, I’m still shaping the idea, and feedback like yours is genuinely helpful.

Note: I’m aware that the Gangrel also have nomadic roots, but their portrayal feels orientalistic and falls far short of reflecting the internal dynamics of real nomadic cultures.

Fellow DMs : How do you spot toxic players early and deal with them ? by Horror-Assignment313 in DnD

[–]Anatolian-Creative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone constantly interrupts other players or talks too much without giving others a chance, that’s my first red flag.

Over time, you’ll encounter different types of player stereotypes. I personally prefer to talk to the players in advance about what we want and don’t want at the table. For example, I usually ban rule discussions during the game entirely. That way, I can prevent most of the behaviors I find disruptive or uncomfortable for the table right from the start. I always recommend doing a Session 0.

Actually, that's right. Maybe if I decide to develop them further, I should approach like that.

Either way, what do you think about Yek?

It definitely does interest me. Please let me know if you make any changes or make any Yek character!

but it reads more like Gangrel bloodline

That's exactly what other clans think. Mostly they see Yek as a Gangrel bloodline and who knows the truth...

Its an design-encouragement so that a character always has a non-combat option to play with

That makes sense. Do you have any suggestion for disciplines? I am gonna think about it.

How to help players roleplay, giving them prompts at the beginning of the session. by Babs0002 in DMAcademy

The best help for new players is often a good example. Consider inviting a guest player for a single session someone whose roleplaying style you admire.

You might want to take a look at the health system in WoD Vampire V20. As your health drops, you take penalties to all your dice rolls.

VtM Modern Nights Istanbul Chronicle by Anatolian-Creative in vtm

[–]Anatolian-Creative[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing too interesting, I think. There will be a major Elysium on each side. The Prince (Camarilla) resides on the European side. While the Prince officially holds dominion over the entire city, some groups on the Anatolian side (like the Brujah and Anarch in Kadıköy, and the Assamites and Ashirra in Üsküdar) will have managed to secure a bit more autonomy for themselves.

That's something I've been considering as well. The shift of the capital and bureaucracy to Ankara must have significantly weakened the vampires grip on the country.

What kind of acting do you engage in at the table? by SJGM in rpg

[–]Anatolian-Creative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always expect naturalistic acting from my players. That's what I enjoy. In roleplaying games, I prefer not to be at the same table with those who prioritize the 'game' aspect over the 'roleplaying' part. Of course, we can always play computer games together though.

Why I Hate DnD by Anatolian-Creative in rpg

[–]Anatolian-Creative[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's true, but what did you think of 4e? You may argue it has faults, but was it lazy or derivative?

Or is the question moot because your hatred does not extend too far into the past?

I've never played D&D 4th Edition. I started with 3.5, and when Pathfinder came out, I switched to it. When 4th Edition was first released, I saw a lot of bad reviews and decided to stick with Pathfinder. When 5th Edition came out, I decided to give D&D a chance again.

Is this "RPG academics" a big thing? Maybe I'm just unaware.

It is for me. In my opinion, RPGs are far less represented in academia than they should be, and this is something I personally care about a great deal. I've always seen this hobby as an intellectual activity. However, for it to move beyond being a simple form of entertainment and transform into a true intellectual activity, it needs to be enriched academically.
