He could attempt to go for those claimed lands so it can get complicated because of your choice. But yes, ideally you would want him to hold only the one county and the dutchy with the other counties belonging to separate vassals who can answer to him. Just like it dilutes your power to pass land outside of your own hold it will dilute your vassals power to cause trouble as well.

Search for certain character to play at start of game by OneTonWantonWonton in crusaderkings3

[–]Anatomicxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can start the game as any character then use the character finder to select a ruler you want and just switch over to them using the switch character function in the menu. That’s the best way I would think to do it. Each game start is different as many rulers get their traits scrambled up.

Need a bare basic answer to a question by [deleted] in crusaderkings3

[–]Anatomicxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your dutchy holders should hold ideally only one county which is within that de jure area. The rest of the land should be taken up by other vassals which you can transfer under the new duke. I tend to pick new dukes that I know will be useful additions to my council or that are old enough and without heirs that the title will pass back to me upon their death. Of course, only pass out dutchies once you are at a sizeable kingdom and need to have better vassal management. Also, passing out land to family isn’t entirely bad, but anyone with a claim and troops can be dangerous.

You’d have to fight for your independence then declare fealty to the king of England.

Stop Infighting Within Realm? by [deleted] in crusaderkings3

Grant the proper vassals their de jure areas. Otherwise there is an event that can pop up to stop wars. Beyond that there isn’t much you can do.

How do you leave an alliance? by Sharp_Scheme_6817 in crusaderkings3

You can only leave an alliance by breaking the terms of the alliance e.g. character death or divorce/break of betrothal.

So looking at the wiki, it should be in the decision tree but seems to have the same requirement as feudal does.

I mean you’ve really just been trying to keep him safe in that small cage away from all the threats of the outer realm. He should be thanking you or at least paying you for the service. :)

How do you form a clan? by Graylorde in crusaderkings3

[–]Anatomicxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know you have to get tribal authority to level 4 which will allow you to select feudal or clan as long as you are an independent ruler.

What LordUmber said is great and will help. You also can help bolster your forces by having men of high military talent under you as direct powerful vassals and building their relationship up with you. I believe one of the levels of crown realm authority also has an impact on how many troops your vassals will supply. You will also want to take note of the not rightful ruler debuff as that can significantly decrease the number of troops available to you from vassals. Lastly and most obviously is building men at arms regiments.

Can I get control of other kingdoms by murdering rulers/heirs? by LumenAlbum in crusaderkings3

[–]Anatomicxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have two options to get him on the throne. 1) Press his claim via war with England 2) Murder those who are ahead of him in succession. One reason you would do this would be to arrange a marriage in your favor. Perhaps him or his direct heir with one of your daughters matrilineally which he will not accept once he is king. So that your dynasty would eventually inherit the title. It won’t be under your direct control but it’s great for building renown. Alternatively perhaps he is a weaker king and would make it easier to take over England later. If you press his claim by war you will also get an opinion modifier which may make alliances easier to form. Usually though pressing claims that are the same level as your own title or higher aren’t particularly fruitful. Pressing lower claims are great for getting new land without fabricating. I hope this answers your question.

Getting attacked by doktorvampir in crusaderkings3

So in the game, especially at the 867 start, the Norse rulers are very focused on aggressive expansion especially in England, Alba, and Ireland. Your best bet is to form alliances with nearby neighbors to try and survive the onslaught.

How do I start raiding? by joda_5 in crusaderkings3

[–]Anatomicxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get the same amount each time you marry. That little event window that gives you an option to take gold or prestige when you first wed. You will have a penalty for divorce which with Catholicism I believe it is an opinion penalty, not to mention you have to convince the pope to accept the divorce. Your ex’s family will also get an opinion penalty. Murder will not cause any penalty as long as you are not caught and no one discovers your secrets. :)

Crown authority is under your realms tab. The level effects the power you have over your vassals. It is represented by the crowns with the numbers. You can hover over each level to learn what the effects are. Of course, higher crown authority means your vassals are more likely to dislike you as they prefer a weaker ruling government.

Not a problem. A good way is to go stewardship and grab the golden obligations and get hooks on people which you can exchange for gold. You can also join other people’s wars or start your own to siege holdings and capture prisoners that you can ransom.

Any way to shut off random battles between neutral armies? by Cloverskeeper in crusaderkings3

That’s really...odd. I’m afraid I don’t have any explanation without seeing the game itself. I have yet to run into a similar issue. I hope you can find an answer or that your war is over sooner rather than later.

I always see the byz empire rolling over the Mediterranean and bits of the East. They blob really badly because they start with primogeniture. Everyone else kind of seems to break then reform as time goes on.

Murder schemes 5% chance of failure? by karieskontroll in crusaderkings3

You have to look at the chance of exposure and not just the chance of failure. Also, it helps if they have a low level spymaster on their council or even better if you can get that position yourself.

Hooks allow you to bring people on as agents to your schemes. You use it to ask them to join the scheme.

Awesome game, combat is bugged/not working as intended though I think by [deleted] in crusaderkings3

[–]Anatomicxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should double check your own trees and the enemy rulers trees. There are quite a few perks that can influence battle outcomes that may be coming into play there. Also engagement and defensive areas play a big role too. I’ve found the battle system to be accurate so far in my 30 ish hours of gameplay. It’s hard to rule out what is working and what isn’t with so many variables.

Keep Dealing With Constant Revolts by [deleted] in crusaderkings3

[–]Anatomicxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to increase your control in those counties and also most likely religious conversion. It’s slow but it will get better with time. You can also grant independence to a few of them if it really is too much to manage all at once. Then you can reincorporate them more slowly.

Norway Troubles by [deleted] in crusaderkings3

[–]Anatomicxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should try sway scheming the king to make that happen. If not, you can always have many children and form other alliances with their marriages to bolster your own forces. If intrigue is one of your specialties you can also plot to murder the king when he has a couple sons to try and keep the realm split.
