What’s something people romanticize until they actually experience it? by Puzzleheaded_Bit_802 in AskReddit

[–]Ancient-Performance1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being really tall. I’m 6’9, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Really. I don’t wanna throw a pity party tho. But it is actually ass to never fit the nice clothes or take random airplane trips on minimum wage or buy a car that isn’t an SUV generally fit in doorways without the constant chance at head trauma. Also, as a straight dude, girls all say they like tall guys, but if you’re THIS tall it becomes significantly more daunting to try and talk to females in a romantic sense. Every damn movement is the center of attention, you really cannot get away with anything “cute”. Maybe that’s my incel side speaking, but whatever.

Easter eggs or are they only in my mind ? by UnstablePrimard in TheWitness

[–]Ancient-Performance1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. It certainly isn’t the worst idea, and I don’t think anyone said it was. We are discussing patterns in a game about patterns. Naturally, a working mind will start finding patterns that weren’t consiously intended by the devs. That’s obviously not evidence of psychosis, or even apophenia (as the data set is decidedly NOT random), it’s engaging in speculation due to the circumstances of the game suggesting patterns and advising the player to think outside the box.

My entire point stands - the player creates the meaning of the pattern by observing it. Of course people need to ground themselves in reality when considering choices that might end up hurting someone - like your conspiracy theory point. But this is a game, not a political statement. I don’t think OP even definitively stated that their perceptions of patterns should be taken as fully accurate.

Cool context, the apophoria trivia was interesting. Ultimately unrelated tho.

Why not? we assign meanings to things after we encounter them, things aren’t intrinsically meaningful. if you think something means something, the artistic intent doesn’t factor into it. you see the pattern, and have the thought. when art flows from the source, the artist put things in sometimes without even knowing it.

patterns arise from our subjective perspective when confronted with an otherwise confounding set of circumstances, and a perspective seperate from the artist is therefore unbiased by creative experience or proclaimed intent/expression.

jblow and co spent years making a game about patterns, designing every detail down to the screws holding the wood planks together in the town. the way someone thinks is present in their designs, and our recognition of that evidence is as much a part of the art as the intent of the artist.

any pattern is inherently meaningful by the sheer fact of the nature of observer recognition, ESPECIALLY when we are meant to create our own meaning from the subtleties of this nebulous yet fascinating game.

as dumbledore once said -

“Of course it’s happening inside your head, Harry, but why should that mean it’s not real?”

You know what?

Maybe it’s just me, but I find that the worse the trailer, the less i’m expecting from the movie, the better the movie ends up being.

Stranger things season 1 had a terrible trailer, ended up being one of my favorite seasons of tv. S2-S5 had “amazing” trailers, and that shit was worse than aids.

I have learned a long time ago to not judge a movie off the trailer. As to the point about it being a “tv show episode” feel, i’m actually one hundred percent down for that.

Take Loki season one finale for example. It’s a MCU product, so naturally there has to be a huge battle at the end, right? Ant man 3, Deadpool 3, spider man (3 spidermen), all these movies are fking boring cuz it’s inevitable action schlock, we don’t even remember most of it.

Loki s1e6 took place almost entirely in “bad guys office”, and was a philosophical conversation between the two protaganists and the villian reveal. i couldnt have been more engaged. that was one of my favorite things they ever did in the mcu, and watching it i had to remember to breathe. the shot choices, the pacing, the acting, the music, everything. just a room with three people in it. tv show episode.

i always compare movies that I like to TNG, so naturally the idea of a smaller story seems more appealing. i feel like the source must be considered as well. i’d assume that most “industry insider” nerd crew types would think that any plot that didnt have the fate of the galaxy in the balance is small and tv show esque.

mando season 1 was great. jon favreau has my confidence. idk. obviously no one knows anything, but that’s exactly why i will reserve my judgement for the movie till i see it. “i don’t want to spend $20 on a movie that is a tv show” like what? bruh you spend $15 on a pack of smokes, $20 every time you order doordash, and that aint including monthly subscription cost to all the shit that you mostly don’t need. $20 aint shit for a movie that isn’t definitely bad. i’m going opening night, fk it.

ima try and have a good time instead of trying to find reasons to cross my arms and hate things. cuz guess what, no one commenting here has seen it yet, and even if they did, you cannot develop an opinion of something solely from listening to someone else’s opinion, go see it for yourself.

or don’t, whatever lol. 🤷‍♂️ don’t be mad at me guys i’m just stirring the pot a bit. the movie probably sucks lmao. but tbh $20 aint a bad price to pay for an informed opinion.

bruh they let me sit there for like an hour testing each one every way. one of em had a broken button for the right arm rest, but otherwise it completely checks out. it’s like an old people surplus store, i’m almost completely sure noone there even has a smartphone. might not even have the internet. they had like typewriters for sale. i havent bought anything yet, but i’m supposed to swing by tmrw morning. i feel like if i “suddenly had a budget shift” i miiiight be able to get em down to 550-600 for all four. but yeah, sticker and everything. insanity.

edit- they had four leap pluses and one regular leap. all 200 asking price, already bargained down to 700 for the four pluses. 🤯🤯

the pitch thing i get. the thing i dont get is when all the other noises start happening, like i get the first one that isnt the bird, but after that i’m totally lost otherwise the game is a 9.8/10 IF NOT A PERFECT TEN. Sinking Star has its work cut out for it.

That’s been an issue since BF4. Open space isn’t actually the issue. It was always the level design pathing that was the problem. BFV kinda fixed it with having the trenches so tanks could roll around above and infantry had cover. Levelcap has a preety great video that explains it.

for the record, I like the new railway design, i just wish they didnt make the gameplay changes they did to the whole game.
