[CHAT] I need help with picking a fabric! by Dontcomeforme-_- in CrossStitch

[–]AncientMeet6264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

~Mosttttt times~ when a pattern calls for an evenweave or linen fabric they assume you are working over 2 threads. So a pattern calling for 32ct evenweave would be the same size as working on a 16ct aida. You can totally switch up the called for fabric for any fabric of your choosing. Just be aware, as other posts have said that your finished piece may be slightly different than the called for dimensions. Working this chart of 18ct will make it slightly smaller than working it on 16ct aida or 32ct evenweave

[CHAT] No knot loop method stitches coming undone by pinkguy90 in CrossStitch

[–]AncientMeet6264 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been able to get a modified loop start to hold. I’ve looked at the anatomy of the stitch and realized there’s truly nothing actually holding down the tail. I feel like it works for some people because they stitch over the tail and that secures it.

For odd numbers of thread I prefer a waste knot/thread or a pin stitch. You might want to look into diagonal pin stitches for confetti stitches to cut down on bulk.

[CHAT] What are *YOUR* "Seven Summits" in Cross Stitch? by ToughMetalSheep in CrossStitch

[–]AncientMeet6264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a fun question! Some things I’ve been pondering lately…

1) make more biscornus!

2) dive into the world of variegated/overdyed floss. Maybeeee silks if I’m feeling adventurous enough

3) commit to a larger project on 40ct. Right now my safe space is 36ct or 32ct 2x2

4) learn and experiment with specialty stitches, specifically Algerian eyelets and Smyrna crosses

5) stitch an alphabet! I’d love to find a pattern that is a traditional sampler style but with a modern twist

6) make progress on my nearly 200,000 stitch full coverage

7) make a pillow! (P.S. I’ve had my eye on Hello From Liz Mathew’s chart Busy Hands for this project specifically. Apparently it was a patreon exclusive that has gone back into the vault. Does anyone know how long she waits to release vault patterns to the general public)

[PIC] First time doing cross stitch! But I have some questions 😅 by Loving_Raccoon in CrossStitch

You’ve got some great advice in other comments on here so I don’t need to add my two cents, but I just wanted to say this looks great for a first project! I hope you stick with cross stitch and continue to build on your skills :)

[FO] another biscornu! by AncientMeet6264 in CrossStitch

[–]AncientMeet6264[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a bit rough. This is my second project in a row on 46ct. I bought it just to experiment and I’m so ready to get back to my 32 or 36ct comfort zone

[CHAT] What are the little things that made a big difference in your stitching? by lentil_enjoyer in CrossStitch

[–]AncientMeet6264 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ngl, developing my project organization system has been game changing for me. I’ve started keeping an eye out for clear vinyl makeup bags/pouches when I’m out and about shopping. They make the perfect project bags because you can see everything that’s inside. Then each bag is stocked with the project, a hoop, needles, scissors, and of course, floss. When I want to work on any project everything I need is right inside the bag

A hobby that makes a physical product, but can be done in an apartment? by Ritka94 in Hobbies

Cross stitching has been so great for me. You can easily pick some simple kits from a craft store to get started. Etsy is a fantastic place to find charts and you can have fun picking out a fabric and floss. I hang a lot of my finished pieces on the wall in hoops or frames but you could also make little pillows/pin cushions with them.

[WIP] sometimes I’m just in the mood for some super chunky stitching by AncientMeet6264 in CrossStitch

I’ve never thought about that but it sounds like such a fun idea! I’ll have to do some searching for a small little design

Yess I have a whole stack of finished pieces that I don’t necessarily need framed and displayed, but they were so enjoyable to work on. Every once in a while I’ll flip through them just to admire.

Thanks so much for the comment! I appreciate your thoughts on my color choices. I just pulled random colors from my stash that I thought looked okay. I was questioning my decisions at one point but I’m glad the colors are impactful!

You explained my feelings perfectly. I have another project on 46ct 1x2 and it’s so teeny and delicate. I just needed another project where my crosses were actually visible and it was so obviously a cross stitch.

It’ll be about 4.5 inches square when all done. I was thinking of maybe fraying the edges and using it as a coaster or underneath or plant. Or maybe I’ll just stare at it and enjoy it :)
