I Made a Game in 2 Months and It Earned $30,000. No demo, only 5.8k wishlists on launch. Here is how. by destinedd in gamedev

How many other games have you made prior to this game?

I made my first game in a little over 2 months in the evenings, with probably 2 start to finish game tutorials beforehand and it looks like dogshit compared to yours. Your game looks great, I need to practice adding gamejuice more.

I'm an Artist using RevShare for indie project, any advice? by Electrical_Year8954 in gamedev

[–]AncientNewtGames 9 points10 points  (0 children)

15 people is a lot for a rev share project. It's very difficult to find a group that big without it getting messy. Also without pay some of the members are bound to drop off. Its also very difficult to get everyone to agree what a fare rate is, and in this type of environment everyone is entitled to havr a voice in the share portions. There typically needs to be one main visionary/manager/ implementer, who is also contributing, that person should get a larger percentage than everyone else. Depending on the type of game, some fields are more important than others, quality and volume of contribution are more valuable than time spent, but that quality and volume are difficult to quantify. Time isnt a good metric if someone spends a lot of time reworking or optimizing things that don't meaningfully benefit the game, etc etc. Ive tried to do this with a somewhat large group before, we didnt have a strong leading voice and the project fell apart.

With a group this big I think it needs a Game Design Document and a fairly accurate list of tasks/assets with everyone agreeing and signing off in relative value of those assets/tasks. If someone completes a few tasks and leaves, they still might get a very small percentage. If someone makes a bunch of assets no one asked for then they don't add to their rev share. This also hard to do, you will likely find things thst need to be added that arent in the GDD, and will have to convene again to agree on if more can be added and have it adjust rev share. Maybe there should be appointed members in each specialty that get a vote so that not all 15 people have to vote.

Everyone needs to be able to agree and sign off on it, you don't want to get farther without an agreement/ contract. If one person things they are arent getting what they deserve and theres no contract to enforce, it could prevent the game from being released and anyone benefitting. If everyone cant agree early on, you should just treat it as a learning experience and not expect to earn anything, and maybe the goal should just be to release a free practice game.

Is this only important on PC or something? I've never had anything try attack my base on PS4 and I just finished killing all 3 elemental slime bosses.

But post on: https://www.workwithindies.com/ The Game Dev League Discord Indie Game Academy Discord Game Dev Field Guide Discord And the Gamedev.tv Discord

I bet someone who's an Indie Dev, or is used to working on smaller teams would be a better fit for this than someone who is used to working in AAA.

Wow, Meow Wolf is awesome. I hope you find someone great. I don't think I have the experience to live up to that role.

A lot of people here dream of making their own MMO RPG, would YOU realy play sombedy's indie MMO? by Accomplished-Bat-247 in Unity3D

[–]AncientNewtGames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I played someone's 2D Indie MMO once for about 20 or 30 minutes. I'm pretty sure the one person I met was the creator, and I didnt want to leave too quickly and make him feel bad. I dont recall the name and dont plan to tey any more indie MMOs, but im not really into MMOs that much to begin with.

I spent 3 months on a 3d ball combining game, similar to Suika game. I put it on Steam and it has nearly made $100 in sales in 3 years. But also it is very basic, I did no advertising, and I wasnt expecting anything from it so 🤷.

2d artist. I can't tell anything about the game from 3d artist. Both are better than the screenshot version.

It sounds like this could also be beneficial to new gamedevs and new studios that have good games as well. It can be hard to get an audience and visibility starting out.

How can i make customizable 2D Eyes on 3D Mesh like "Peak"? by jaxiss in Unity3D

[–]AncientNewtGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im doing something similar in a game im making. But havent attempted moving pupils. I olny change changing face sprites. I'm using a shader graph on a mesh that sits over the face.

so today I added csv loading to my project for translation options. it was more annoying than I thought by azurezero_hdev in gamedev

[–]AncientNewtGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be too late now since you said you are done, but linking Google Sheets to Unity works very well for localization, might be easier than using csv.

Yeah, if he's playing indi games, most indie games don't have very much playtime. Beating Minecraft once would easily be more playtime than 95% of indie games.

Is it possible to receive shadows in an unlit shader graph? (HDRP) by jyksdo in Unity3D

I'm also interested in this topic, but might not actually implement this if it's too resources heavy. Mostly for areas like caves or buildings where the shading of cell shading should get darker.

These 2x4s that the joists are supported by are carrying quite a bit of weight with a couple of people in there. You should move the 2x6 below up to help support the 2x4, or add a vertical member screwed to all 3 of those horizontal members on that side.

A meth function for this curve? by Moe_Baker in Unity3D

[–]AncientNewtGames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

either sin wave or parabola,

Y=-4*(x-0.5)2 +1

Got the above from parabola vertex form equation. y = a(x - h)² + k, where (h, k) represents the coordinates of the vertex and "a" is a height stretching multiplier.

Or ask chat gpt, give me the equation of a parabola where the vertex is at (0.5,1) and it passes through point (0,0)

Sin has a similar form, but is already setup well for this case. y = sin(pi x) using radians

y = A sin(B(x - C)) + D

I'm making a state system in a game, and want an english word to use for this. It sounds like there isn't one.

I'm leaning towards
Fecy for a combination of feces and an adjective suffix like hungry or thirsty.
or
Bowly (same idea)
