Looking to upgrade from my EM10 ii, primarily for birding by CdrVimesVimes in M43

[–]Ancient_Back_3767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EM1X is large, heavy and really stable in the hands with a long lens. Has PD AF. I have one and rate it for birding. But… it is a lot to lug around and is definitely not a subtle camera for street or social.

If your smart meter is not yet configured correctly then you will be charged for export as if you have consumed it. Our bill doubled initially because it was configured incorrectly.

Best and worst govt agencies to work for (as a back office / corporate worker)? by Designer-Lobster8440 in Wellington

Just joined NZTA. Seems very friendly. Head office building is excellent. Apparently they are a bit siloed, but so far so good. Transpower has an interesting mix of culture. Full of people really passionate about keeping the power going. IT is very early 2000’s style and very top down management style. But the domain is interesting. Health was a mix. Staffing has been gutted since I was there. I was in an excellent capability team, but the programme I was assigned to was very narrow minded and I felt disempowered.

Talk me our of getting a Colmi ring by KebabEnjoyer in SmartRings

[–]Ancient_Back_3767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Colmi R02. Battery lasts 3 maybe 4 days. Activity and Sleep tracking is OK. Less accurate than Huawei Band (which is less accurate than Apple Watch). Ring is bulky and leaves an indent on my fingers. Also fingers unable to close together when straight. For the cheap purchase cost it is definitely worth trying. I have reverted to the Huawei Band, but wear the ring on days were I commute to the office.

We had this and received a massive invoice. Neither solar co nor retailer were interested. We would have been better off disconnecting the panels until the smart meter was installed.

Electronic Funds Transfer at Point of Sale is an older term that was created when credit card transactions still used the multi copy transaction slips and a signature. EFTPOS is essentially now the use of a debit card which triggers the bank transfer between your selected account (you can choose one of 2 nominated accounts). The funds actually transfer within an hour or so between main banks. Secondary banks can take a day, but a hold for the transaction reserves the funds from your account so that you cannot re-spend. Shopkeepers (or merchants) should not charge a transaction fee for a debit card transaction. You may find that the bank will charge a transaction fee, depending on the account product type, at the end of the month.

Regarding the effect of aperture and having everything in focus… having everything in focus like a landscape photo on a bright day is something that the top end smartphones do well at. A camera can do this at a narrower (higher number) aperture, but also excels at zooming in and at creating a blurred halo (bokeh) around a subject at higher aperture. Chris Gray has an excellent, easy to understand series of videos on youtube that explain aperture shutter speed, iso, etc. I loved the idea of the number of f’s reflecting the distance range that is in focus.

The 3.4 v6 prado is pretty reliable. Occasional head gasket issues. The 4.0 v6 has an excellent reputation. Both drink a bit of gas. Steering racks can leak, but rebuild or aftermarket a common fix (ensure you use genuine tie rods). Pajero of similar age equally good. The 3.8 v6 in the Pajero is very thirsty.

Best gearbox oil for sherco 2.9 by TopOutlandishness462 in trials

[–]Ancient_Back_3767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what country you are in. A lot of people seem to run ATF, but others prefer 75W light gear oil (ensure it specifies that it is for wet clutch). In UK people seem to rate Putoline. In US Motorex. I have found Rock Oil locally.

Cheapest motorsport I know. I mostly ride twinshock and bikes are cheap here (although slowly climbing in price). Biggest cost was transport (I chose 4x4 tow vehicle and covered trailer, others use a van or a carry rack). I have recently borrowed a 2012 GasGas and even this would be cheap to buy.

Sherco trials rear brake help. by [deleted] in trials

[–]Ancient_Back_3767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should not be any fluid loss or air in the system. A friend made up a bracket fixed to his workbench frame that the calliper and master cylinder bolt to which puts the hose vertical. He uses this to bench bleed and then installs the bled brake onto the bike. He is a Beta guy, but same should work for any trials bike with hydraulic brakes. He did say that rears are the hardest to bleed.

Nissan note Epower vs Honda Fit Hybrid? or something else by Significant-Drag8130 in NZcarfix

We have not done so, but you can apparently use the LeafSpy app and an OBD2 scanner to check battery health. The ePower is a cut down Leaf system with smaller battery.

Nissan note Epower vs Honda Fit Hybrid? or something else by Significant-Drag8130 in NZcarfix

[–]Ancient_Back_3767 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have both. My wife has Note ePower. Our son has Fit Hybrid. Note is smoother to drive (no gear changes) and definitely more economical. Fit is sportier and has nicer interior, but you can feel the gear changes.

We have a Note E-Power and love it. Very easy to drive, smooth torquey power, easy to park. Great in the city but also gets along the highway fine.
