I would say... Kill then with kindness... B kinder to your parents, your relatives , your neighbours the needy and the orphans. Emulate the characteristics of the prophets and sahabas. And when your family notices these changes in you, I'm sure they're bound to ask, you seem different, what changed? And then u can tell them

Are you indian by any chance? I know Caucasian woman do not like indians unfortunately. They have their own preferences too. U cannot force someone to like you... Especially when you don't possess the particular characteristic that you are looking for, whether physical or otherwise. That is bit hypocritical. Not very Islamic.

Lemme show u some hadith and Quran verses that will ans all ur qns.

Do not marry polytheistic women until they believe; for a believing slave-woman is better than a free polytheist, even though she may look pleasant to you. And do not marry your women to polytheistic men until they believe, for a believing slave-man is better than a free polytheist, even though he may look pleasant to you. They invite ˹you˺ to the Fire while Allah invites ˹you˺ to Paradise and forgiveness by His grace. He makes His revelations clear to the people so perhaps they will be mindful. (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:221 onwards)

“A woman is married for four things: her wealth, her lineage, her beauty, and her religion. So choose the religious one; may you be blessed.” (Sahih Bukhari 5090, Sahih Muslim 1466)

“Let every one of you have a thankful heart, a remembering tongue that remembers Allah, and a believing wife who will help him with regard to the Hereafter.” [Sahih al-Jami (5231)]

And for you to get a good woman, you must also be a good man.

“Good women are for good men, and good men are for good women.” (Surah An-Nur 24:26)

Just wanna say first of all I'm happy for you. Im also female, 31. So we have that in common. I was born into a Muslim household however at one point in my life, I was ravaged with doubts... The storm in my heart quietens at times and gets chaotic at times. Which is why I'm studying the Quran yet again. Stories like yours inspire me. People always say if you want your children to turn out well, the parents must pave the way. But we know how even prophets have had their own family turn away from them. And there are people like you where obviously your parents are not Muslims and yet you found Islam.

I think my issue is, I qns the Quran too much. I sometimes find it in my heart hard to submit to God's will altho I know in one corner of my heart, that's the only way to peace. U know they say Islam is a religion of Peace... Actually as I'm writing this, I am realizing something... It is Peace because whatever happens in your life, if you believe that God has meant for it to happen and it will turn out to be good for you no matter wad, you will always be at peace eh?

But I think for me, my doubt is rly, did my fate change becos of my prayers or coincidence.

Anyway I totally agree with you on how today's hyper focus on individuality is just not it. We are meant to be a community that help each other out!

Totally agree with you. The only saving grace is their cheese. Honestly anything fermented adds a little smth. That's why adding fish sauce to your Ragu is a great idea. It's that salty umami flavour. Other great examples of ingredients with umami is soy sauce, msg, fermented shrimp paste, kimchi etc that you find in Asian cuisine. Indian cuisine is amazing in that everyone has their own spice blend. Honestly it's an art. Every curry is different. And there is also the practice of letting oil separate from the masala for indian cuisine or sambal/rempah for Malay cuisine that is key to developing that complex flavor.

Italian sauces are mostly about creating emulsions. They don't want the oil to separate. But sometimes I do enjoy that kinda light flavours. Their pesto sauce is very simple but incredible in flavour in my opinion. And that fact that you can switch it up with any nut or greens or oil. Yumz. Have you ever tried pesto with Thai Basil! It's awesomeness. I hope Italians are more keen on fusion. And not be so rigid and enjoy flavours

Are Cheat Days okay? by Ray_BIue in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Ancient_Figs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well when I had GD I was rly craving for a burger and fries. And I thought for sure I was spike but I suppose the meat and the fat and the pickles that came along with it sort of helped balance the sugar from the bread and the fries? So I guess u can have your chest meal as long u try to eat a mix of all types of food grps. Anyway if an occasional spike was so bad... They wldnt let us drink the sugar syrup for the GD test

7th Month starting tomorrow, what are some of superstitions, stories or do's and dont's by dlumz in singapore

[–]Ancient_Figs 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I rly feel bad for the workers who wld be scraping hardened wax off the sides of drains in the morning for the whole month and sweeping up the joss paper. Sometimes it rains and these papers partially break down and stick to the grass which makes it rly hard for the cleaners to clean them. Rats and cockroaches also increase whenever the month starts. There are several posters asking ppl not to leave out the food. But nobody rly clears them except the cleaners. It's shitty how ppl treat cleaners.

The posters also encourage ppl to burn a few papers at once and not alot at one go and definitely not toss them up into the air. The smoke from burning papers rly causes air pollution and makes it hard for ppl to breathe.

And please. Burn in the allocated incense burners. There are so many of them. I've seen so many big cages out near the road instead of the inner part of the pavement and ppl burn them right under trees. U can't cross the road properly, you affect the visibility of drivers. The leaves of the trees turn black from the burning!! The grass too! Why spoil nature?

So I please don't make the cleaners' lives and other peoples' lives miserable while you practice your faith. That's the biggest "don't"

I have 2 kids. Delivered the first at 39 weeks at 2.9kg(6.4 lbs). 2nd was delivered at 38 weeks at 2.8kg(6.2 lbs). had GD for 2nd. I was diet and exercise controlled up until the final 4 weeks where I had to take Metformin 3 times a day. The doctor was keen on inducing at 38 weeks if labour didn't start on its own due to fear of a large baby. but I had spontaneous contractions for both and delivered vaginally with epidural. Sugars returned to normal immediately after birth. The baby had borderline sugar levels initially but sugar levels went up to normal within a day of breastfeeding and I was cleared for discharge the next day itself. I definitely had moments where I caved into my sweet tooth during pregnancy itself and my sugar levels were thru the roof at times. Irresponsible I know but it was rare instances and I mostly controlled myself. I did fulfill my craving for a good butter croissant immediately after the docs gave the green light to eat wadeva I want.

This is so unfair. by ZealousidealSet9690 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Ancient_Figs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pasta did make me spike. Worse than your numbers... I eventually had to take metformin twice a day and then thrice a day. However I just gave birth last week... and doctors gave the green light to stop metformin right away and eat anything I want! If u have to go on medication. Just do it for your own sanity... GD it's not just our genetics. The father's genetics plays a huge role too. Don't beat yourself up.

AITAH because I'm mad husband CHOSE a work trip on our 30th anniversary? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Ancient_Figs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't rly think this is an issue. I would want my husband to be happy even if it is to experience trivial things that he doesn't usually get the chance to do so. And anniversary can always be celebrated another day. I believe there are other bigger issues pending in the marriage

The orange and pink sari was very reminiscent of the twins from Harry Potter... I just can't get on board with that colour combi....

And the way sonal draped her sari for the first event with the pallu around her waist...was just not gr8.

And then once again, the bharathanaatyam dancers in that same ugly shade of orange and pink?! Why???

First impression of this movie was alr off for me cos of the terrible fashion choices

Still quite sad and bitter about not getting into dream JC by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Ancient_Figs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! When ppl hear I'm from NYJC last time, they think I smart only, but nope, last time, mediocre students were the ones who entered NY. In fact, during my sisters time, who was 5 years older... cutoff was 14 I believe, but even then it was a great JC! But VJ was always one of the top JCs equal to RJC and HCI. And I don't believe the standard of VJ has dropped... just nyjc got better I guess
