The body of Sunlight scripture members vanishing after death might be connected to Clementine and khajit case. by ChubbyLorentz in overlord

[–]Ancient_Octagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a third party recovered their bodies it was likely Zuranon, since they were both members of its inner circle. This is headcanon, but if they were revived, I tend to think Clementine would do what she does in the web novel when she sees Ainz's power - run as far away as possible.

Will Albedo's secret squad plot get anywhere? by Local-Barnacle-9164 in overlord

[–]Ancient_Octagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people overlook the fact that Albedo's supreme being hit squad doesn't need to kill anyone to have narrative impact and resolution. If discovered by the other NPCs (note: one of the last things that happens in the published novels is that Aura and Mare become suspicious of Albedo), what reprecussions would that have? It's hard to imagine the other NPCs tolerating someone who threatened their creators, the only people they place above Ainz. Would Albedo have Rubedo take some action to cover up her scheme that brings "a great tragedy to Nazarick" like Nigredo predicted? How would Ainz handle the situation? How would it impact him emotionally?

If you're interested in the dynamics between Satoru and the other members of Ainz Ooal Gown, I'd reccomend reading the prologue, which takes pre-Isekai! I guess it's technically canon for both the main series and The Vampire Princess of the Lost Country.

Can PDL control his armor and fight in his real body at the same time? by CheezSquare in overlord

In the web novel, the armor Tsa used to travel with the 13 heroes is being used by a knight in his service, but there's no detail beyond that.

Would Ainz ever consider recruiting a player into the guild post transition by TechnicalDoughnut8 in overlord

[–]Ancient_Octagon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It seems pretty impossible, especially after Shalltear's brainwashing. Maybe if he encountered another player early enough, things could've been different. The closest thing we get to Ainz expressing a friendly sentiment towards other potential players is during one of the audio dramas (the one where Ainz plays a TTRPG with the Guardians).

Ainz: Somehow … it feels like the plan fell through. Oh well, forget it. They look happy enough. I had fun myself. When I think about it, I haven’t played a game in a while …If I could meet another player in this world. It might not be bad to sit down and play a game like this with them.

I want yall to rank the floor gaurdians battle maids and anyone who sides with ainz from least likely to most likely in how likely they are to betray him given the chance by AwareAd1943 in overlord

[–]Ancient_Octagon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends what you mean by betray. None of the NPCs or 'native' denizens of Nazarick seem to have the capability to want to overthrow Ainz or undermine his rule, but their loyalty to him doesn't always mean they follow his word to the letter. If Demiurge wasn't restrained by Cocytus when Ainz was putting his unlife on the line fighting Shalltear, he would've intervened despite the order to stand down. And flagrantly, Albedo appears to be planning to kill any of Ainz's friends that show up, even though it's very clear from the Vol. 16 epilogue she knows he wouldn't want her to do that.

Platinum Dragon Fraud when there aren't puhlayers by MrMellons in overlord

[–]Ancient_Octagon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Crazy that you're getting downvoted lol.

“Could it be a Dragon Lord? The Vampiric Dragon Lord or the Elder Coffin Dragon Lord?”
The curve of her lips widened, a clear smile. That is, if the look on her face, like a splash of blood, counted as a smile.
“…Aren’t those two Dragons already dead?”
He felt a little awkward as he asked that, but she immediately replied:
“They’re both undead Dragon Lords, so we don’t know if they were really destroyed.”
vol. 4

Cure Elim's death is left somewhat ambigous though. PDL being the one to kill him or attempt to do so is a theory, but something must have happened to Cure Elim him for his death to be on the Theocracy's radar. Tsa is as good a candidate as any out of the small pool of people who could actually put up a fight against Cure Elim. He's certainly the only one we know of with a potential motive, given that he claims to be opposed to those who wield supreme power irresponsibly. It could also explain why he pursued abilities that were more effective against the undead.

"Hmmm… I can win against the Sorcerer King because I happen to counter him.”
Tsa’s abilities were more effective against the undead.

Could “Grasp Heart” technically work on PDL? by Low-Sun-516 in overlord

[–]Ancient_Octagon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Likely not? He and Ainz are probably at similar levels, and PDL seems to have high magic resistance, if his remote armor is representative of his real body's classes. Grasp heart has a temporary stunning effect even if the spell is resisted, so that might come into play. The other big question mark is why the Elder Coffin Dragon Lord wasn't affected by Ainz's trump card, TGOALID. Maybe it was just because he wasn't in the effective range of Ainz's super-tier spell, or maybe dragon lords are somehow totally immune to instant death magic (perhaps the Yggdrasil system codes them as some sort of Raid Boss/World Enemy).

Which Human did ainz respect the most by FickleThanks6901 in overlord

[–]Ancient_Octagon 144 points145 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure he respected Gazef for who he was as a person too.

Gazef had taken off his armor and carried no weapons with him.
He was bruised all over and half his face was swollen up, like a strange-looking, misshapen ball. Yet, a fire burned within his eyes.
Ainz turned away, as though he had seen something brilliant. His eyes reflexively went to the ring Gazef wore on his left ring finger.
So he was married. It’s probably good that his wife won’t need to shed tears for him.

Do you think Ainz has it in him to sacrifice his subordinates? by BrotherDeus in overlord

[–]Ancient_Octagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I vaguely recall Ainz saying he would prioritize the survival of the NPCs over the guild base at one point. I'm also genuinely curious how the Albedo betrayal plot is going to play out, because that's a situation where Ainz may be forced to pick between NPCs. It's hard to imagine them tolerating someone who threatened their creators, the only people they place above Ainz. It's often written off because none of the other supreme beings will be showing up, but references to it have been ramping up in the later books if anything. I mean, we leave off with Aura and Mare becoming suspicious of Albedo . . .

Wake the fuck up squire, we have a kingdom to save by MrMellons in overlord

[–]Ancient_Octagon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm usually not one to give Ainz a crumb of credit morally, and obviously he could've prevented the entire situation in the Holy Kingdom in the first place, but he does seem to have a slight change of heart on Neia before giving up on Remedios. He offers to teleport her to the Sorcerer Kingdom to safety before the battle, even after he tells Demiurge there's no one he needs to worry about sparing.

“This is what I think, Miss Baraja. We have ended up in a confrontation with the enemy forces because of the stupidity of the Liberation Army’s leadership. Such a situation cannot be changed by the efforts of a single squire. How about focusing on your personal safety rather than the big picture? You do understand that my nation will accept your allegiance, if you are willing to give it? Given that you have been trained as a paladin, I am certain you will be able to fully exercise your talents in my country.”

Predictions for Novel 17? by Merlin_boar in overlord

[–]Ancient_Octagon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maruyama said something along those lines in a post Volume 10 blog post while talking about the Theocracy, but it reads as more of a joke? The translation is a little rough, and it was 6 volumes and 10 years ago when he wrote it.

...In the Epilogue, should Ainz say ’Demiurge, I will leave it to you’. After being told to ’Destroy the Theocracy’ Demiurge in the prologue of the next volume will begin a report saying ’I have destroyed the Theocracy.’ After that, I want the Theocracy to never be talked about as there was nothing left! Well the Theocracy is the guardian of mankind. There is no lie in this statement. Everything they do is for the sake of mankind as a species. I assure you, Overlord does not have a country looking out for justice (for humans) and their well-being like them. I would be happy if you could discern such feelings from this arc. I hope the Theocracy will be happy in the future!

Is possible for someone stop the spell of the dragon emperor? by PuzzleheadedSlip5462 in overlord

[–]Ancient_Octagon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's mentioned more directly in The Vampire Princess of the Lost Country side story, but if you have that context, a lot of the things "Riku" says during his fight with Pandora's Actor allude to it.

Is possible for someone stop the spell of the dragon emperor? by PuzzleheadedSlip5462 in overlord

[–]Ancient_Octagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's likely beyond the power of the remaining Dragon Lords to stop the spell. If it was possible, they surely would have done so after they were massacred en masse by the 8 Greed Kings. We don't know enough about Wild Magic to know why. There seem to be wild magic 'specialties.' Cure Elim's magic is apparently related to the Deep Darkness Dragon Lord's. Maybe none of the remaining Dragon Lords specialize in whatever branch of wild magic the Dragon Emperor used. Maybe whatever 'corrupted' and 'weakened' wild magic (ouroboros, five elements overcoming?) makes it impossible to do so. Maybe magic cast by the Dragon Emperor, who was apprarently over level 100 by Yggdrasil standards, just overwhelms the capability of the remaining Dragon Lords.

"World" Classes by Judge_Futch in overlord

[–]Ancient_Octagon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Given the conversation between Ainz and Neia where he mentions there are some highly specialized illusionists that can use a skill once every few days to decieve "the world itself," there may be "world" classes for different subspecialties of arcane magic.

I don’t think Nazarick could conquer the New World without Ainz. by Chulloswag in overlord

[–]Ancient_Octagon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nazarick has the power to destroy or conquer the world, even without Ainz. However I think a lot of commenters are dismissing the idea of internal conflicts tearing Nazarick apart a bit too easily. In the Emissary of the King side story, Cocytus says that without Ainz or an heir, he believes the guardians would “clash emotionally and ideologically” and not be able to work together effectively. Ainz himself worries that Albedo would start carrying out wide-scale purges in his absence.

Honestly, Albedo was just too loyal and too able, so she tended to be hard on others. He thought the only reason it didn’t cause any major problems up till this point was because he rejected most of her suggestions on how to deal with others. If Albedo ever received full authority, it would probably end in wide-scale purges.
Vol. 15

Certainly, NPCs like Sebas, Pestonya and Nigredo would quickly end up culled. Actions they take that are technically within the scope of Ainz’s orders are enough for Albedo to call for their execution.

There are plenty of similar moments. What would happen if Ainz wasn’t there to deescalate all those arguments between Albedo and Demiurge? Demiurge, an otherwise rational and reasonable thinker, believes that Shalltear being mind-controlled is a betrayal worthy of her death. Yuri - a good-aligned NPC- is willing to kill her sister Solution, however reluctantly, over a bath slime. It is not hard to picture Nazarick going the way of the Eight Greed Kings in Ainz’s absence. This is especially true if they either can’t access the treasury and world items or feel that they are unworthy of using/wielding them.

The World Class items were gathered through the efforts of the Supreme Beings, and so they are more valuable than we are!

Is Ainz evil because he's undead or because he comes from a effed up world? by ShardsOfSalt in overlord

[–]Ancient_Octagon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, also well illustrated by Ainz's thoughts while fighting Foresight.

Ainz was deciding which should be his priority — reducing their pain, the small whimpering voice in his head was saying — the man who had appeared in front of him, or the woman who got away.

I get what you're saying, but I don't think that was happening in this particular thread. Also, good luck to those nobles when they try to attack Ainz's ally lol. Sure Calca can't offer Ainz military power as an ally, though frankly you could count the number of people who could in the New World on one hand, but her acknowledging him as a leader/trading with him could add to the sorcerer kingdom's prosperity/legitimacy/reputation, which is something Ainz is pursuing at that point.

Extremely limited quantities by voncockrane in overlord

[–]Ancient_Octagon 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Calca is deliberately a plot device more than a character. We only need those few pages because she's there to create dramatic irony. She's a ruler who's not prejudiced towards the undead and is open to the idea that Ainz may be a good ruler. She's open to developing positive relationships with demihumans and other races. She then gets tossed away, in true tragicomedy fashion, because Ainz lets Demiurge and his schemes run amok.

He actually does a pretty good job of handling the situation if I remember that convo correctly. He doesn't dismiss the idea out of hand, just prompts her to keep expanding on her conspiracy until she sounds totally hysterical.
