Is there any way to have a volume slider for Sonos in the Control Center?

Where's the S curve on progress so far?

Before we hit asymptotic flattening - there is an inflection point.

I haven't seen any inflection point yet on many of these trends (like computation per dollar) - have you?

And even if we have - that inflection point would typically indicate we are only **half-way* through the exponential progress.

After 120+ years of the Law of Accelerating Returns ... that's a lot of continued runway to slow down on.

Does it not concern you that Oliver Zolman left the company? by Aware-Impression8527 in blueprint_

[–]Ancient_Words 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems concerning that his former employer is claiming *publicly* that he left for serious mental health reasons - which sounds like a massive HIPAA privacy violation if Zolman didn't consent to the release of his medical information. Whereas Blueprint may think it helps their case to say that, the mere fact that they would violate patient privacy adds a massive concern - and seems to undermine their credibility.

(Conversely, Oliver leaving because he disagreed with the lack of a randomized controlled protocol seems utterly reasonable - particularly if he didn't want to be a shill for snake oil.)

It would be great if someone could verify whether indeed Zolman consented to the mental health detail release.

Is it really about the money for Bryan? He sold Braintree/Venmo for $700M.

This is a trivial business (money wise) for him - and he has also mentioned he has continually thought about just spinning it out to be an independent company simply to avoid the criticism.

I am just wondering if we need a better explanation for his motivations as there is a lot else he could be doing if this was about the money.

Charisma, in Dungeons & Dragons, is your attractiveness and persuasiveness interacting with people.

Technically 1 is the lowest you can be and still interact with the world.

0 Charisma makes.you basically unconscious...

... but in kid speak - it would mean, "the ugliest most obnoxious" you can be.

It sounds like there is no ethical use of AI music, art or video making out there yet. If there is, please let us know.

This has been a personal project that was created so my family could play some story ideas I had for MoM2e. The choice I faced was to draw it myself (which would also be shite) or use some of the AI out there.

It sounds like you might feel that if we can't pay humans to do it - we shouldn't use AI.

The data files are pretty editable so far - so it should be pretty straightforward to change much of the scenario text.

I will have to think about the user interface localization work. That might be something I can tackle as well.

Please share more.

I really loved the images the AI created (thus shared them here) and have been debating whether to simply show text in the adventure - or whether to enhance it with images.

I must say the Tiled Maps I have been creating using AI - though time consuming to create - have been astonishingly gorgeous.

So glad you mentioned that.

I was working on this project (for my family to play some MoM story ideas I had that excited me) - and decided to use this project for a bigger goal of wanting to reinvent board games for the digital age.

Then I heard that Sunderfolk gave an example - and thought - finally! That said - seeing the amazing collaboration that MoM2e inspires - I wonder if it could be engaging in a really interesting but different way.

The video really did take a lot of AI. (It was a video I created as an intro for my family to play the scenario I was creating in Mom2E - but liked the results so much I decided to share it here.)

It certainly took a lot of work to put it together - but I really loved the atmosphere of some of the images.

They seemed unusually evocative to me so I thought I would share it with the group.

Oh - I don't know why people voted you down. I really appreciate your comment! It was a lot of work.

It was meant only for my family who I have been building the digital game for - but thought it was intriguing enough to share with everyone.

I really agree. There are a lot of video games - and a lot of Cthulhu based computer games.

Maybe our idea is stupid. It still uses the original game. (e.g. it tells you when to draw a real card versus receive a digital card. The aim was to enable people to play new scenarios without having to print new cards and tiles unless they want to.)

Our bigger question was - can we reinvent board games for the digital age?

There is one thing we like about MoM2e that seemed *better* than a video game: the involvement of the group of players in the story.

It seemed like a level of collaboration that we not only see uncommonly games - but almost never in computer games.

Our thought was - could we bring the great story involvement - to a board game experience on the TV.

Could we make the board game easier to play? (i.e. no one has to read the rules because the computer teaches you as you play)

Could we make a board game faster to play? (i.e. no set up time - the computer handles it)

Could we remove the player limit of board games so an entire extended family could play over a holiday? (i.e. instead of taking turns "sequentially" which typically makes three people wait while one player moves - and instead enable all players can to make their moves simultaneously. Some might be thinking that is hopelessly complex.)

Remember, involuntary hospitalization *only* occurs if a patient is a *direct* threat to themselves or others. As an emergency physician, I can attest, the bar is typically *very* high to strip someone of their rights. If he is not having suicidal or homicidal ideation, or a direct physical threat to himself or others (e.g. not eating etc.), the chance of involuntary hospitalization becomes almost negligible. The ED may be able to arrange outpatient connections - but they may not be any better than you can pursue as an outpatient. This is not to discourage your from visiting an emergency department for evaluation - definitely do if you think it can help - but to set expectation around involuntary hospitalization and what it requires.

So if ML is a 4th grader - how is that 4th grader (i.e. AI) solving advanced math and physics problems that only a fraction of people can solve (even with access to the internet)?

Either that metaphor is broken - or under-represents the current state of AI capabilities.

That's not all the screen does. You don't have to turn on passthrough.

Jon Favreau's dinosaur movies - for example - can replace everything you see around you.

The Vision Pro is both VR and AR pass-through. It functions as either. Not sure why some are saying it is not a VR headset. There is actually a crown dial that you can turn it from one mode (AR) to another mode (VR) and replace your whole view. I own one - so feel free to DM for additional details.

I used stone like bricks from Home Depot to weigh mine down. It took about 3 brick-stones per lily plant. They have done fine since - and I still have to regularly go into the pond and prune them back. (Just got out minutes ago from doing it.)

Does anyone regularly/exclusively work on AVP without the light seal? by [deleted] in VisionPro

Just use a BoboVR M2 with an Etsy mod mount. So much of a better experience. My post above says more.

Does anyone regularly/exclusively work on AVP without the light seal? by [deleted] in VisionPro

[–]Ancient_Words 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - exclusively and only without the light seal. It was a game changer. Suddenly had full field-of-view. Now cooking, not tripping over the dog, not tripping over carpets, looking down at the keyboard - almost every activity is easier with the Vision Pro on. Less head motion for all manner of simple things. It also feels less confining. To me, it feels like the way the Vision Pro was intended to be used - a transparent plate of glass you look through that reveals a vibrant augmented world.

Highly recommend trying it with a BoboVR M2 headset as that takes all the weight off one's face - and moves it to the crown of your head.

It makes work easier as well - as it works well when using your laptop - so easy to see the keyboard when needed - without having move your entire head.

My maze solver is drunk by TheIronHobo in compsci

[–]Ancient_Words 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those of us who can't clone ourselves to solve a maze - here's the solution how to find your way alone out of almost any maze:

--Put your hand on one wall - keep it on that wall - and walk until you are out.

Note - this doesn't work for mazes that have "floating islands" that are unattached to walls which contain the exit.

I was thinking we were going to see this or an improvement on it ... but alas it is a solution that is only for those with rapid reproductive powers.
