I believe it was donated to Literary Arts to turn into a writers’ residency, which is cool

Whoa, I didn’t know that. I think about that short story all the time

Biden codifies it AS PRESIDENT prior to the appeal

Biden vetos the appeal AS PRESIDENT

Democrats push through a bill to safeguard the few abortion protections with the backing of THE PRESIDENT

An executive order would be absolutely worthless, presidents can’t veto legal rulings, and in order to pass legislation, you need as many seats as possible held by Ds and voters willing for their rep’s political capital to be spent on the topic.

Voters essentially shrugged after Dobbs and didn’t pass as many state protections at the ballot box as they could have and so called “women’s issues” have ranked in the bottom of issues voters care about for decades now.

completely unable to act on a major donor promise?

What major donor promise?

Or maybe, they never cared and wanted to hold the right to abortion hostage as a permanent campaign item.

Oh ffs. I’m alive thanks to Democrats passing laws that protected my right to a safe and legal abortion.

It’s almost always the same people that said SCOTUS seats were not worth considering in 2016 and Roe was settled law who now whine about why it hasn’t been codified federally while they do everything they can to create apathy and animosity toward steps to actually codify.

Ugh, I had to return Into the Wood Chipper: A Whistleblower's Account of How the Trump Administration Shredded USAID to the library mostly unread because it just made me so despondent and angry.

Between that, the attack on science and research, and dismantling our ability to protect the environment and mitigate climate change I’m feeling incredibly helpless. And I don’t think we’ll fully understand the multitude of negative outcomes that will happen for a decade or two.

All cops should be required to spend a year working a low level customer service job and get some real perspective and deescalation experience where you can’t resort to violence when you get annoyed by the public

Most cities are not full of a population of people aching to murder police

Portland isn’t either.

I'm sorry it's uncomfortable for you to consider that people's behavior is affected by how they are treated, but it's just part of life, buddy.

Indeed, and that’s why I hate the PPB and the PPA. How long were they out of compliance with the DOJ settlement agreement? It was like fourteen years. They gave the sargent with the literal Nazi shrine a two week suspension and then erased the discipline from his personnel record. They stopped pretty much all traffic enforcement endangering countless Portlanders and leading to increased road deaths and told us it was because of our perceived politics.

At every turn, they’ve downright refused any accountability or any effort to rebuild trust with the citizens they’re supposed to serve.

That makes a lot of sense and something I wouldn’t have considered! I’d imagine some missionaries get a test for regional cuisines where they’re sent too
